Opening a Strip Club?

I am trying to find resources on opening a strip club. My MBA has taught me enough about building a business plan, but I'm not sure where to start in finding laws regarding adult establishments, local and state, general pay rates for dancers, etc. Do you have any suggestions?

We're just starting to investigate it, so any sincere responses would be helpful.

The liquor laws usually regulate how naked someone can get where alcohol is served. Local zoning usually tells you what the location criteria are.

BTW, I've read two biz plans for strip clubs put together by wannabe clients. Be glad to give you some info or a critique. Give me a PM.

Yes, liquor laws do regulate how naked is your strip bar. But nothing prevents you from having a strip bar with two sections. One section with alcohol where the ladies are not so naked, and the other section dry where the ladies can loose it all. All in all your patron would be able to go between the sections.
I've seen establishments like this and they are a big hit, lots of patrons.

Just a flashback...

Your thread caused me to recall something rather amusing. About 18 years ago, I worked in a theatrical costume "factory". One of the things we produced were pasties and g-strings for all over the US. Having the finger skills to apply sequins in 3-D, I quickly became the resident pasty maker. Well... I'm not sure how the laws work now, but back then the area of the breast which had to be covered by the pasty was constantly changing and varied from state to state. Imagine completing an order for two gross of pasties which were large enough to cover the areola, then being informed you had to start all over because the law just changed to allow only nipple coverage. *sigh*

Happy day,

Some places you can do this. Others you can't. Varies from one state to the next.

You guys are no fun... no response on my fun pasty thing. Oops, I forgot to mention that my dad was into making money from a honey joint. They came to me and got all kinds of sweet sexy adornments once. The next week, they wanted to return them. HA. The owners of the company I worked for (where we made them) asked me to come out and have a talk with the bitches. I took care of them, and then just imagine the next family dinner. Oh, my playboy daddy had one of them there on his arm. Hehehe, the poor twit... between me and my two sisters, she didn't have a fucking chance.

Always smiling,

Liability

Before I would invest a dime towards opening any establishment geared towards public entertainment, be that a family restaurant or an upscale gentlemen's club, I would spend the money to sit down with a practicing attorney that will explain to you in detail what liabilities you may bear in such an enterprise. I worked for nearly five years as a music promoter managing bands and doing events and will honestly tell you the high cost of bonds and insurance to cover such potential liability from nusiance lawsuits and less than honest individuals willing to profit at my expense made me retire. The most important thing I can suggest you do is research in public court documents how your state you intend to do business in sets the cap on liability judgements and easily won said lawsuits were filed. After that I would still pay for a lawyer's time to let you be fully aware of the best and worst case scenarios you may face. It's not drugs or firearms that drove me out of the music business, it's all these 'I can get you money' shysters that took the profits out of something I really loved doing. My best wishes for anything you chose to embark upon but for your own peace of mind, do your homework completely and don't be cheap in that research, it will only cost you much more later on......

Hey Fallen, did you work for a company in NC? Just asking, as my brother got taken there. Came back with demos from some valuable bands, but none of his stuff. Lost all his guitars, tail between his legs. Of course, I remained the supportive big sister while gritting my teeth.

Perhaps, I can help you with information pertaining to dancers! At one time I provided most of the clubs with top quality dancers here in Connecticut. Parts of MA and RI. To answer the question in everyones mind 'No I was not a pimp' If I found that a dancer was turning tricks on the side she was fired. That a quick trip to jail.... :( I harbor no inner desires to meet a guy named Bubba.., PM me for information!
