I love this thing. Not because it relaxes my muscles (it hasn't quite accomplished that yet) but because it feels so damn good everywhere. Well, since I know the people on this board, not EVERYWHERE (haven't tried) but on all those sore muscles and painful areas. And sitting on top of my head. For some reason. Yeah, I'm fidgety.
Anyhow, I got a box just a few minutes ago (that was fast) from my favoritest herbal kind of company. The first box ever.
In it was my grapeseed oil (so I've been wanting to make my own massage oils for a long time), my dead sea salt (bath salts too) and, dun dun dunnnnn.... a little pouch with 6 of the most popular essential oils. So as we speak, I'm pondering which oil I'm going to put a few drops of into my rice sock (sounds almost dirty) and then it's HEAT TIME AGAIN!!! YAY!!!!!
God, I had almost forgotten how much I hate the ice half of that process.
Yup... Chiropractors rock... my back and neck were soooo screwed up from 6 years of jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, and the only pain killers i'll take is motrin ( I have to pop about 6 of the big 800 mg ones to feel anything) I'm starting to feel much better now. So there's my plug for chiropractors.
I see you tried the Flexeril, and it didn't affect you in a negative way. I'd stay with it, especially at night. It's a true muscle relaxant, which is what you need right now. When your back went out, the surrounding muscles tensed all up. Even though the Chiro put you back straight again, the muscles are still inflamed.
I went through the lower back problems about 20 years ago, and kept throwing my back out, due to my job. I finally left the job, and was able to heal, with the help of Flexeril. It never spaced me out, like it does some people, and it sounds like you can tollerate it also. Rather than trying different meds, I'd stick with the Flexeril, as I really think it'll relax you enough, so that your muscles will finally be back to where they belong.
A spliff, hahahaaa. I came from a different part of the country, but back east we called them joints :*)
I'm not sure, but I think spliff might be a Ca. thing. But then I quit eons ago, so what do I know!!
I've dealt with muscle spasms in my back for 21 years now, and have discovered that just an ice pack works best. A heating pad provides relief as long as it's in place, but seems to cause the pain to get worse and last longer after it's removed.
I've found that fifteen to twenty minutes every hour with a cold pack seems to provide the longest lasting relief.
For the times when I have to be active, my magnetic back support and a couple of Extra Strength Excedrin are good for about four to six hours of relatively pain free activity.
The back support is more to hold the 16 theraputic magnets in place than for actual support -- like a regular back brace provides -- but it's the magnets that seem to make the difference in the muscle spasms
