I'm no photography expert, but this bit on her left arm looks particularly odd:This photo (downsized here) inspired a Halloween story that I haven't written yet.

At a first glance it looks like a hand-colored antique. I'm not sure it is. There are cracks in the photo, but the image is continuous over the cracks. I don't know if that's possible unless it's been Photoshopped, either to repair damage, or to make a newer image appear antique.
The story idea assumed the photo is antique, and the woman was a Geisha, possibly of the Meiji period when Geishas were courtesans for the wealthy merchant class.

It can't be cracking - cracks don't cross one another. Two folds might cross one another, but I'd be surprised if a fold had a sudden bend in it like this one does in the middle-left.
I'm also not a historian, but some other things one might consider: the nails, the shaved pubic hair, and the featureless backdrop. Are those consistent with comparable antique photos? The 19th-century Japanese erotica I've seen generally shows women with pubic hair, and my non-expert impression is that photographers of the era were more likely to pick an interesting setting than just hang a white sheet, but I could be wrong on all of that.
