I see author after author driven away from this site because anonymous trolls, rather than admins, police the content of loving wives, seeing it as their job to give one star to every story that doesn't conform to what they think the genre means. It's the main reason I've (pretty much) left the site entirely.

Look at virtually any story in this category where cheating is a theme. Seemingly, enough of them think that loving wives is "erotic couplings" or "romance" that it consistently affects story scores (the "loving" means "extra-marital" not "supportive and wholesome"). A lot of these stories are fairly paint-by-numbers cuckold/cheating stories, but that isn't the issue.

The issue is that Literotica doesn't stop anonymous votes from wrecking story scores, doesn't monitor where content goes, and continues with a story category that's consistently misunderstood to the detriment of its creators.

We either need admins to
1. change the definition of loving wives,
2. add a cheating category for people whose stories aren't extreme enough for cuckold, but would be maligned by the arbitrary audience loving wives currently has, or
3. stop putting cheating stories in loving wives

It's getting frustrating. The only reason I come to this site now, since I don't write here anymore, is to read stories that involve cheating couples (I don't know why I am the way I am - hopefully no shame).

But almost every time now, I see these stories with 1- or 2- stars because they're downvoted to oblivion. And it seems like a fairly recent thing, within the past 3 years or so, because it didn't use to be this way when I was writing.

There are trolls here?

They actually added the ability to moderate comments now, so you can remove trolley comments if you want. I think a lot of people just leave them up because they think that those people are entitled to their opinion.

Idk about the vote thing, I never really pay attention to my score that much because I'm really here to learn how to get better at writing, and I need actual comments for that. A 1-star review doesn't tell me how to fix a bad story, just that it's bad, and is therefore useless to me, so I just don't pay a lot of attention to it. I assume my work is bad, I'm an amateur. I want to know how to fix it, not to have the obvious "It's bad" spelled out. Like no shit, Sherlock, if my writing wasn't bad I'd be getting paid for it.

Having said that, "loving wives" is not aptly named. I also thought it was just like, wives who loved their husbands, and posted a story to that effect there about 4-5 years ago (so prior to the timeframe you've laid out here) and got FUCKING ROASTED. Not just 1-star reviews but folks were pissed right off.

Which is fair enough. I posted in the wrong category. But the name is misleading.

Maybe there’s something about cuckoldry stories that attracts an audience comprised of Internet’s biggest assholes.

Or, there’s a just a particular gang of asshole trolls dedicated to trolling Loving Wives. That sort of thing has happened before.

Ask /rk9/.

Everyone has an opinion, even sissys, and in this country everyone is entitled to it and allow to express it, even if you do not like it.
If you only write to get 5s then you are writing for the wrong reason.

This has been a pure option of a sissy.

So the issue is not that there are mean comments. I have no problem with there being shitty comments. I have no real problem with trolls either. And I understand that writing means accepting criticism, some of which will be unfair and should be taken with a grain of salt.

I've just been seeing a pattern over the past several years. People often write of stories in this category that they're "in the wrong category". There are a lot of trolls who simply type out "1 star" followed by "wrong category asshole" and leave bad votes, and I've actually seen writers move away from the genre because of this.

I guess you could say they need to toughen up if they really want to write in the genre. But I see it as totally avoidable.

"Loving Wives", as is, is kind of broad, and there's a lot of misconceptions about what it actually *means*, especially since the category description, for the few who find it, ends in "etc.".

Anonymous comments don't bother me so much as a lot of people policing the category. Some think it should just be about married couples, though I don't think these people are the ones getting up in arms. Others think it should be about straight, wholesome, loving fun (as implied by the title).

And it's not really about cuckold stories going here either- there's a category for that, explicitly. Cuckoldry involves complicity - it involves demeaning yourself to go along with your wife having partners, and you not - it involves a whole array of different fetishes that might not go in a "cheating" story. In a cuckold/cuckquean story, a man or woman discovers their partner cheating on them, gets aroused by it, and the story progresses from there. There's some crossover with sharing, which is why I think some of these stories actually do moderately well.

These "cheating" stories are more about voyeurism (and maybe sadism on the part of the reader, or maybe a grain of cuckoldry, past a certain threshold). It's about the psychology of people finding out that their partner is cheating on them, and how they recover, or don't recover, from there. It's about watching worlds crumble, and sometimes, watching them be rebuilt. What do you do when you find out your girlfriend/boyfriend is betraying you? What situations could give rise to this? How do you react?

These stories are a dying breed. And to see them consistently stamped out by the same commenters every time is a bit disheartening. Maybe votes aren't reflective of the quality of a story, but a lot of people intuit that they should be, and they adapt accordingly, writing different genres of stories to appease the masses, leaving the site, or (in rare cases) doing the smart thing and posting in another category even though it doesn't really fit.

And it seems like the problems in loving wives should, organically, bring about a new category, which is (I guess) why I thought I'd make this thread. It seems like Literotica never changes though.

A new category for what now? The cheating? The actual wholesome relationships?

You lost me a little bit.

I think adding an actual category for cheating (not cuckold) would be beneficial. Cuckold, to me, means cages, participating with the dominants, and all sorts of other things I or similar people aren't looking for. Cheating stories have no clear, appropriate category, and there's often hostility in the comments of these stories, because cheating is so controversial, and everybody wants to make it clear how awful the characters are for committing infidelity, or how they'd take a gun in if it were their wife/husband, or how wimpy the man/woman is for not taking a gun into the situation, etc.

I think making the title "loving wives" less confusing would also be good. If it's about swinging and sharing, change the category to that.

Right now, the title "loving wives" implies swinging, sharing, cheating (both wedded and more broadly, unwedded), and also, to some people, erotic couplings or romance, and there's a whole lot of unnecessary conflict as a result. it doesn't help that a lot of people who just come to Literotica don't even go to the page where categories are specifically defined, so they don't know what the site initially intended it to mean.

Other similar (although smaller) sites have much more specific, more helpful categories, and that seems to help the community too.

The "wholesome" stories, I think, already have a category in "romance," even though some people continue to think that's the intention of loving wives, and will defend that purity to the death.

I think this is a really good idea.

The issue, as I understand it, is that this site is run by a team of 1-3 people, on code from the 1990s, and that would be HELL to change? I'm not sure.

Also though, the person who runs it, her name's Laurel, doesn't oversee the GB anymore, I think? I'm not 100% on that.

I think maybe pm her and pitch this idea? This bothers me too, but I'm a spineless coward who wouldn't gonna say nothing.

I'd change the code myself if I could. I fancy myself a bit of a developer, and I've built some websites for people (front and back end).

But it's probably a passion project of theirs, so I doubt I'd have any place.

I'll send them a message and see if I get any response. I'm not sure I'll have any luck, since Literotica doesn't change much, if at all, but it doesn't hurt to try.

It's not hard to imagine that you have trouble figuring out which category is appropriate for your stories, given that you couldn't figure out which forum was appropriate for discussion of the issue.

Sick burn.

Maybe work on your basic reading comprehension though. And also, try being a decent human being some days.

I know it's hard, but we're all learning.

Yah, should be in AH.
