God! You got to love it when they point out that the South and KKK were Dems like that’s a bad thing, and yet deny that they took in those southern democrats. God Bless them for taking them in, but that’s their party NOW. All those good people with tiki torches.
Selective use of History from a party that wants to rewrite and whitewash the country’s history thus denying the history of others. Yeah, that’s gonna help us avoid repeating history!

Marxist, Socialist, Communist. The best presidential nominee in American history was Eugene Debs, who once said "From my head to my toes, I am a Bolshevik" and "I don't want to rise above the people, I want to rise WITH the people".

Well, the Ku Klux Klan were Democrats, except in Indiana. In 1928, the Democratic nominee for president was a Catholic, Al Smith. There was a serious debate among Democrats in the south as to whether they hated Republicans or Catholics the most. Those who hated Catholics more called themselves "Hoovercrats" and voted for the Republican candidate Herbert Hoover, but most of the deep south people who had a vote still hated Republicans more.

And the "party switch" decades later was never straight forward. In 1976, the southern states (aside from Virginia and Oklahoma) all voted for Democrat Jimmy Carter over Republican Gerald Ford.

Some people talk about Richard Nixon having a "southern strategy" in 1968, yet the deep south went for pro-segregationist Democrat, George Wallace, not Nixon. I think there was a much clearer "southern strategy" by conservative Barry Goldwater in 1964, where he was determined to win the deep south to the Republicans, even if it meant total alienation of then Republican heartlands like Maine and Vermont. For example, Maine only had 3 presidential elections between 1856 and 1988 where they didn't vote Republican (1912, 1964, 1968), while Vermont only had the one presidential election between 1856 and 1988 where they didn't vote Republican (1964). Meanwhile, Goldwater in 1964, along with winning his home state of Arizona, won the states of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and South Carolina, even as he lost heavily nationwide. Those deep south states hadn't voted Republican since Reconstruction, and in the case of Georgia never before.

I actually consider the 1976 election to be a big one for the America of today. If Ford wins in 1976, he beats the evangelical favorite of the time, Carter, and Reagan never becomes president. It would likely be Ted Kennedy in 1980, or Walter Mondale. With Carter winning over Ford in 1976, the Democrats take all the flak for what happens in the following years, Ford and the moderates in the Republican Party lose power and there's a conservative takeover of the GOP. The evangelicals, having tasted success in 1976 with Carter's win, now abandon Carter in BIG numbers in 1980 for Reagan. Ever since, the Republicans pander to that narrow-minded, and increasingly declining over time, evangelical base as an electoral base of support.

God Bless them for taking them in, but that’s their party NOW. All those good people with tiki torches.

At state and local level, Southern Democrats (i.e. conservatives) remained a thing until very recently.

The ideas weren't there first. Labor made them possible.

At least one idea was first. Ever built a house? What comes first? A set of plans, which springs from the mind. I can get behind the labor idea as the plans are drawn, but there has to be a concept, and it comes first.

I’m conservative. I don’t find politics to be sexual or related to a fetish in any way. I’d say this is the perfect asexual safe space for anyone.

Except the trolling, lack of respect, hate, anal sucking, circle jerks, rimming and asshole appreciation that usually comes free of charge.

perhaps you should try charging?

I would say that, based on my personal experience, this board is dominated by lefties. I get nasty messages on forums and PM'd telling me pretty awful stuff. The upside is that there are women who have political kinks and want an evil white male Republican to dominate them, so there's that.
I prefer a man who keeps his politics to himself. 😁

My affiliations are: libertarian when it comes to personal choice and personal freedom (keep government out of my personal life!), and moderate/conservative when it comes to both economic policy and foreign policy. In terms of foreign policy, I lean towards isolationism, and while I support Ukraine, I am wary of the U.S. involvement escalating the conflict. I lean progressive or moderate/liberal when it comes to environmental issues, and oppose racism and homophobia in any form.

These last two things puts me in the crosshairs of many so-called "Conservatives" who hate on minorities and GLBT people and who think it is perfectly acceptable (Even noble!) to dump toxins into the air, soil, and rivers.

Basically, I am neither conservative nor liberal, but consider myself a moderate, independent thinker who tries to accept rational and reasonable solutions to world issues. The usual loud-mouth extremists on here might disagree with that assessment (we all know who these people are) but that's where I stand.

My life work and belief system is centered on promoting love and ecological sustainability.

I write extensively, but I do not write fiction.

My "fetish" or biggest turn-on is the willingness of a person to somehow honestly reveal their inner life, and not necessarily with words.

Canada had a Progressive Conservative Party for a while before a name change and alliance change. I like that label, because that is what I see coming. The progress we may eventually have could start with rewinding back to older tech and some older traditions to use less energy, and then forward in new directions a long way ahead.

I'm a fan of older equipment. It is already built, thus saving the energy required to build a new one.

The is no political pigeonhole for me.

I'm very left wing I think! But weirdly I have a thing for more right leaning men, I dont know why!

The right wing, conservative man will fight off the bad guys for you. Its a basic survival, instinct reflex. Deep down inside you want the soldier, firefighter-type to provide for you and walk around with his shirt off. The far left, more liberal guy wants the same thing.

They made fun of GW when he said he was a compassionate conservative but that explains most people I know. First take care of the economy and our security from crime and enemies, once we are all working and can support our families, be safe from criminals, afford gas and groceries... THEN you can play with your windmills, electric vehicles, and gender issues. Just leave people alone.

My drivers license says, "unaffiliated." And after trump is kicked to the curb I am done voting period.

Out of curiosity @LLCox , what is your generation? Boomer, Generation Jones (late boomer 1955-1965), GenX or Millennial?
I'd guess Jones from your posting history.
