Politically incorrect songs you learned in elementary school that they don't sing there any more

I was in my school’s choir for many years. We once had to sing a song that contained the line “I believe in God”. Some of the students objected to that. The song was written by a musician who was inspired by a Holocaust survivor, fwiw.

I noticed that there were a lot of religious-themed songs. But never any religion but Christian.

I wonder if THAT has changed?

At Christmastime, they would invariably throw in a song about Hanukkah, probably not even written by a Jewish songwriter judging by how lame most of them were. (Of course Hanukkah is not as important to Jews as Christmas is to Christians anyway. But if you're going to do it, do it right.)

Hanukkah, I think, never was a very big deal until American Jews decided they wanted their own Christmas.

Most American Jews I know will still tell you it's not that big a deal.
