Poorly performing stories that you still love

Sealing the Deal.
2.92 and of course that's Loving Wives.

The reason I like this story is what I set out to do is create a story where there is no good guy/bad guy. There is no true victim, and certainly no one to root for. I wrote a story where the three characters are all unlikable for different reasons. Why did I do this? First, the challenge, but second because I know that people are often trash and there are many situations where its just multiple assholes all creating a train wreck.

Despite the low score, and some scathing comments, I'm proud of the story because there were a lot of comments that told me I hit my bullseye. All along the lines of "well written, but these characters..." so it worked as intended.

Being LW the wife of course took the brunt of the comment abuse, the lover a small amount, but some did admit that as much of a bitch as she was, what the husband had done to lead to the plot of the story was sleazy and he was pretty much getting what he deserved in her.

I had some people here asking me why I'd write a story where the mission was to not have anyone they could get behind so to speak, and my answer was what I said here. Realism and a challenge. I think I had a thread on it called "wasting a story" because I knew this would be the result, but I had to do it.

Again, all my work. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m in love with my own stories. I’m also always happy to see them get further appreciation.

The Way Back to the Sea

This is my favorite story I have written. It's the least sexy story I've done so far, but I really enjoyed writing the characters and their emotions as they dealt with a tragedy. It didn't get rated low, it just didn't get many clicks at all.

The Bible....
I thought it would be read by more....
They do enough advertising.

Shameless plug alert

I think that my story..... https://classic.literotica.com/s/decision-time-in-a-marriage "performed" worse than I thought.
I knew it would get some bad comments because of the ending, but I got quite a few personal emails and PMs from people saying they loved it.
It's been nominated for 2 awards, so I know there are some fans of it.

Don't get me wrong at 3.8 rating in the "Loving Wives" category isn't something to sneeze at.
It started out in the 4.2's and has gotten down to where it is now.

I knew that I'd get some hatred from the ending, but that is part of the fun when writing in that category. LOL.

I have gained much inspiration and understanding from the Bible. Morality too. But I don’t want to live by it literally. I’d have to disconnect from too many people I consider friends.

I said I’d eventually add one of my own.

I don’t understand why The Pornstar Experience didn’t do better. Apart from being put in EC for want of a better home.

I've only submitted two stories at this point, both of which I wrote at the same time, and both of which were published today.

One story was in Incest/Taboo, and is doing well enough. I'm glad some people like it, and I'm enjoying that "Hot" tag.

The other was in Loving Wives, and holy shit are the ratings and comments disheartening. I didn't realize or intend, when I submitted it, that I'd literally make people angry. The category isn't called "cuckolds" or "misogyny" after all, and the "cheating" tag's popular, so I thought a story about an unfulfilled trophy wife who misses submission being taken by an old friend (and coworker of her husband) would do ok. I was obviously mistaken. I don't mind if someone doesn't enjoy my writing (to each their own!), and the story is imperfect... but to be expressly told I've been given one-star reviews, and to receive overtly hateful comments, is frankly unnerving and unanticipated.

I put it in Loving Wives because in my mind, the wife's relationship with her shallow, materialistic husband is what primed the proverbial pump for an affair. Category error on my part, it seems.

Guess I'll wholly avoid writing in Loving Wives in the future. From the comments here I gather I'm not alone in this experience in that category. Live and learn.

Trish was fun to write, anyhow, despite the 3.57 rating it currently holds. It started out at 2.67, so I guess that's an improvement.

Hey, your LW story got a follow from me. It’s a great example of a “classic” LW story.

I'll check them out. But don't let the torches and pitchforks dissuade you from telling a story. For every irate villager, there are a thousand readers who don't rate or comment who enjoyed the story. You chose the correct category. If the comments hurt, then you can turn them off when you post the story. Especially the anonymous ones which are 90% of the problem. Wear the low rating as a badge of honor. Your other work will balance that out in the long run. Welcome to LitE.

You became a victim of what seems to be a straightforward category description. It might have been accurate twenty years ago, but over time, the category has become a different place. I read several stories and the litany of comments when I first joined Lit ten years ago, and made my mind up back then. There's a great divide across the centre of Literotica, but you don't need to cross the bridge.

Not about the scores but the (to me) more important metrics of number of times read and favourited:

I am fond of the Lisa and Polly series, even if its readership dropped from 20k, to 7k, to 2k over three parts, and favourites from 22, to 4, to 2. Ouch! Its my own fault. If you will take months between posting chapters...

It's always sad when you write a series and see its popularity diminish like that.

I like to thank them for giving me a pretty star.
Looking on the bright side.

There was a Edinburg Fringe comic (I forget who, he's now a big name), who admitted to once putting five one star reviews on his Fringe poster vertically next to each other so it looked like a stylistic flourish showing five different reviewers had given him five stars each. Something like:
