I'm tech troubled. I want to contribute more to the theads other than my words but i don't want to screw it up. How can I post articles from other websites to back up my facts, post silly pics or avs in my signature line, without pissing ppl off with unreadable script? Thanks for your input.

Not all boards/websites allow them. That might be part of your problem too.

Not here, it's not.

Lit doesn't allow advertisements (discreet links to personal/non-commercial websites and Lit threads or stories are fine), HTML (or other non-vB code), and it's nice for people to avoid large images, flashing gifs and things that are generally obnoxious out of courtesy to other members, but anything else goes.

Images and links are inserted into sigs the very same way they're put into posts here. And, like I said, detailed instructions are available in the FAQ's - Read Before Posting Help Questions sticky I linked to above (it can also always be found at the top of the main How To forum page).

I need to chip in with my own subjective opinion here about signatures. It's not something which is pointed out often and almost everyone forgets about it but images in signatures are incredibly annoying. In fact not just images, anything and everything. If you feel the need to append it to the end of every single thing you might ever say then I can guarantee most people to do not give a fuck. Signatures can largely be viewed as spam advertising, just like that tat you get through your email host in vast numbers each day and promptly ignore and file under pointless.

Anyway some more fact based thought upon the subject rather than my own personal hatred. Most people have a signature much, much larger than the content of their actual post. It's not unusual to see a post/sig combo take up most of the screen, especially on any forum which does not limit signatures by any arcane formulae the wish to impose.

The worst case scenario, which is depressingly most of the time, has someone posting a single line of text which take up about 20 pixels, followed by a signature 120 pixels tall and another 40 pixels worth of spacing and the like. Of course this isn't always the case.

Of course this is all just my personal opinion. It might not ever be true on these forums, since I went into my own personal options and hit the button to disable every single signature ever shown fairly early on. Of course the fact I felt the need to hit that button should shed some light on my position. If you can not make a point in the main text of you post then I will not read your spam line.

Eritz, I'm not going to quote you, but I agree with most of what you've said. I've had sigs turned off for ages because some of them are really obnoxious.
