I know I've done this in the (distant) past, but can't get lit to do it now. Posting from a website is no prob, but how do you post a pic from your hard drive?

Unless you run a server you have to attach/upload images stored on your HD.

First, remember in the future to check the blank manual. It answers questions such as these.

Second, when you go to post, scroll downwards and you'll see a "manage attachments" button. Clicking that will pop up a screen in which you're able to "browse" and "upload."

When Manu disabled HTML in signatures it also disabled the use of attachments in signatures.

At about the same time, the new version of vBulletin moved the attachment function to a pop-up window -- if you have a strict pop-up bocker running, you need to bypass it to use the manage attachment function.

Those are the two main changes in attachments if you hve't used them for a long time.

Attachments don't show as images because Lit has vBulletin configured to show them as links -- there is no way for the users to make them show as anything but links.
