The American people sense that my analysis here is correct, and that is why all the fulminations of the left on this issue have not been credible and not stirred the public.

Are you referring to the same unit of American people of whom a majority have sensed the following, according to public opinion polls:

- that the terrorists who flew the planes on 9/11 were Iraqis?
- that of the two presidential candidates in 2004, the one who served in Vietnam was George W. Bush?
- that the primary reason to invade Iraq was that Saddam Hussein helped plan the 9/11 attacks?

'Cause if those are the American people whose sense of the truth we ought to trust over the fulminations of the left, I gotta tell you: so far, they have been a tad slow on the uptake. As an American person - although admittedly not part of the allegedly infallible thought-unit known as "The American People" - I get to say that.

Surely, you are aware that the European Union has launched an official investigation of CIA "black prisons" in Poland and Romania. I have a sense that the reason those prisons were out-sourced to a different continent is that The American People (LTD) are not fans of torture, but will tolerate it if there is plausible deniability. Out of sight, out of mind.

Rox, you're an intelligent person and while I disagree with you on just about everything except Monty Python and Mel Brooks, I can honestly say I've never seen you post something rock-stupid. Until I read that sentence. Are you ill?

BTW, I used to have a cocker spaniel who had a sense that TV happened because of people hiding behind our TV set. No matter how many times she tried to catch them at it and found no one there, she remained faithful to the concept. One night, Frank Sinatra hid back there and threw her into a fury. I don't know why Sinatra, of all the characters who had come and gone from that corner of the den, got her ire up. If he'd been singing "My Way," I'd have helped the dog hunt him down and chase him from our home. But he was singing "September Song," and beautifully.

You seem to be suggesting that the left should dumb-down our arguments to connect better with The American Public. I agree that Rhodes Scholars married to Wellesley College valedictorians might be off-putting, and it's certainly possible that Affable Stupidity in candidates for high office is not a passing fad. But I hope the left won't choose that route. I wouldn't trust an airplane or a government with two right wings.

One such "horror" story the writer (former prisoner) said that ONE such soldier actually came to him an apologized for his treatment. "We're not all like this," the soldier said. "We don't all agree with this." And treated the prisoner as well as he could.

So, clearly, not all American soldiers are thugs, far from it in fact. But I would say that those at the highest levels of our government are.

The Military Commissions Act is tyranny in America, and they did Padilla well before that.
