Lately my games have been slow to start and I feel like I have to push them forward in the hopes of regaining the players' attention. So, I figured I'd try a different idea and see what people thought.

Basically, the idea is to take the popular Power Rangers/Super Sentai series, and reimagine it for an adult setting. The characters could receive a Power Ring, which looks like a Green Lantern ring. And the GL logo we can use for them as well. The ring emits a colored energy, based on which color each of them are, that can fire out in a blast or envelope the character to transform into Rangers. They can hold the ring up above their head and the energy cascades down and wraps around their bodies. Each ring also has an elemtenal power.

The ring also grants them use of a lightsaber-like weapon, color-coded to their ring and suits, and they are paired with shapeshifting dragons instead of Zords. In normal settings, each character has a dragon that matches their color, usually in a tiny form that can sit on shoulders and hide easily. When the Rangers morph, the dragons become the size of large dogs and assist in battle. When needed, the dragons can become big enough to provide transportation to the Rangers through flight. In very dire situations, the Rangers can form a Joining with their dragons, in which the two fuse together temporarily into a large humanoid dragon form.

As for the story and background, I was thinking this:

In ancient times, the Chieftain of each of the six dragon tribes would pair with a worthy human and give them a Power Ring, forming the first Power Rangers. But the evil dragons Krystaria and Kabuda managed to create copies of the six rings, thus empowering a team of Dark Rangers. This lead to a huge war until ultimately, most of the dragons were dead. The leader of the remaining good dragons, Lady Spira, fused her spirit with the Crystal Spire, the power source for the rings. She was then able to block the Dark Ranger rings, and they were defeated.

The dragons themselves continued to battle, until there were only eight left -- the six partners to the good Rangers, and Krystaria and Kabuda. In the final battle, Spira managed to use the Spire's power to rip open a hole in space and fling Kabuda through it. Terrified that her husband would be separated from her forever, Krystaria dove in after him. Spira slammed the portal shut behind them.

Spira, the good dragons, and the Power Rangers waited for years to see if the evil ones would return, but everything was quiet. While the dragons were immortal and ageless, the human Rangers were not, and died off one by one of old age. Fearing a repeat of the past, Spira decided not to seek out new bearers for the Power Rings. She and the six dragons burrowed deep underground and cast a spell of eternal sleep overthemselves, one that would only fade if the evil dragons ever returned.

Over the next four thousand years, Krystaria frantically searched the reaches of deep space for her beloved husband. She encountered many alien worlds and species, gained numerous allies, and even assisted in intergalactic crimes, but never found her lover.

Meanwhile, on Earth, the area of ground above the hidden sleeping dragons became known as New York City. Six ordinary people living in the Big Apple were about to have their lives changes drastically.

In the highly populated part of the galaxy where Krystaria currently resides, wormhole technology allows for long distance galactic travel. Using a new prototype transporter, she is able to create the longest wormhole ever and return to Earth, along with a few henchman. Her goal is to see if by some chance Kabuda returned there. But after she arrives, the transporter malfunctions and the wormhole collapses, trapping her on Earth. Using subspace communications, she is able to speak with her allies on the other side and they explain it will take months for the transporter to be repaired and to find out exactly what went wrong so they don't make the same mistake again.

So Krystaria decides to search the planet for Kabuda. But Spira senses the return of an evil dragon and awakens. For some reason, she can't get the spell to lift on the good dragons, so they are locked in their slumber. Then Krystaria senses the power of the Spire and heads for New York. Spira can feel her causing destruction and chaos in the streets above, and with no other choice, she sends off the six Power Rings to find the closest worthy bearers. The rings fly through the underground tunnels and sewers until they are able to surface, and then take off to find bearers.

Across the city, six normal people -- three men and three women -- are staring in horror at the giant dragon and group of monsters attacking the city. Then they see a flash of light and their Power Ring comes to them. As soon as they hold the ring in their hand, they hear Spira's voice in their heads and see mental images of past Power Rangers. They know what to do. They slip on the rings, power up, and fight the monsters.

At first, Krystaria is too powerful for them, but then the six good dragons finally awaken and come to aid the Rangers. She is forced to flee and begins her hunt for the old Dark Power Rings, which were scattered along the floor of the ocean by the good dragons. Though powerless, if she can find the rings and connect them to a different power source, she can recruit six new Dark Rangers. At first maybe she only discovers two or three, but eventually finds all six.

So, what do you guys think? Is this something anyone would play? I would need two other males and three females for equal pairings. Ultimately, each player would have two characters -- their Ranger and their dragon.

Reserving my spot for the purple ranger!

More info to be added if accepted.

-Laughs a little-
Oh why not. Ran around my neighborhood enough pretending to be one anyway.
I think I'll take up Pink, if that's alright with you, Mr Jeff.

Welcome, Purple Ranger and Pink Ranger :). As for the elemtental powers associated with those colors, I'll let you guys decide. I think for the Green Ranger I'll have life energy as his element or whatever. Basically, he can manipulate plants and heal injured allies.

Oh, and I totally remember the good old days of pretending to be a Ranger. I used to watch the original Mighty Morphin series religiously as a kid. I watched less when it became Zeo, and started to outgrow it when Turbo and then in Space came along. By the time Lost Galaxy was showing, I never watched Power Rangers anymore. Lately though I have been watching episodes of Super Samurai on Saturday mornings while I wait for DC Nation to come on, haha.

So now we just need one more girl and two guys. I suppose if nothing else I can play multiple characters :).

That would be a lot of characters to play... not to say that you couldn't do it but perhaps wait a little more? :D

Yeah, I'm in no rush to start. This game could be fun and there is enough source material from all the shows to keep it going almost indefinitely, as long as we all stay interested. Better to take it slow and get it right then try to rush it.

That's fine on the Red Ranger, but unlike most incarnations, the Green Ranger will be the leader of the team :). And as for profiles, I would say just include the names, basic info, color/element, and images of your Ranger and dragon. I'll post a profile shortly for comparison.

Oooh... Okay, I am actually leaving the Green Ranger open. I just got an awesome idea for the leader to be the Silver Ranger, and his element is metal. Basically, he is like Magneto or say a metalbender from Avatar :).

Can I then switch to green ranger? I only chose red because green was taken, but since it is open, can I have green? Green is, after all my favorite color.

Sure, you can have green :). So what element will you use for the Green Ranger? And girls, what about the Pink and Purple?

I think green's element should be earth, so he can move rocks and stuff like that. Also, does the rangers dragon have the same powers as the ranger?

Pink seems most often associated with Love or Heart (and who else remembers just how useful Ma-Ti was on Captain Planet?), so I may take a different route. Or possibly keep the Heart theme to make her even more the ever-useful Kimberly of the group.

I may need to contemplate this tonight.

If you choose heart, what abilities will that give you? The ability to make people fall in love with you?

From the looks of it, telepathy, animal communication, & emotional sway are Heart's main parts.

Hm.

I'm starting to lean towards Light.
But to look at the Star Sapphires of the Lanterns, they're Love focused as well.
I hadn't realized how complicated this decision would be...

Yeah but star sapphires are still bad ass. And they take love to crazy levels.

Which draws me back to the Love Side.
(And to base her suit on that of Star Sapphires, villains may just forget what they were doing midfight.)

Yeah, dragons have the same powers as their Rangers, but the dragon powers are stronger. And as for the Pink element, I would suggest Heart, with her greatest power being the ability to quiet the rage in ones heart, making then less effective in combat. Or you could go a step further and say Tactile Hypnosis, like Kayla Silverfox in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

As for Purple, I would suggest something psionic, as that color seems to match that powerbase. So instead of purely elemental dragons, they could have a more diverse powerset.

At first I was thinking all their uniforms could be different colors of the one I posted, but it might be more interesting to let each of you decide on your own outfit, so long as it matches your color. Like, maybe when they morph, the cascade of energy down their body transmutes their civilian clothes into the suit they have pictured clearly in their mind. Then, when they demorph by choice or be weakness, the effect is reversed and the suit turns back into their normal clothing. What do you guys think? And what about helmets? Should we just go with face masks?
