I understand this is a topic for the Support forum. However, I always find the folks in this forum faster at responding and just as knowledgeable.

I have recently been rereading some of my favorited stories. When I have gotten to the end of many of them, there is no rating from me listed. I am logged in, and everything else seems normal...but my ratings have vanished from many of my favorites.

I have searched on this topic briefly in the forums, but have not seen anything. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

'Many' of them sounds bad. If it was once off, my advice would be to check if it was just transient: refresh the page, or maybe go to a different page, perhaps page 1 of the story, then go back to the end. I've found this a few times: my vote temporarily doesn't show. I never take this as an opportunity to vote again, because I don't want my vote to be removed as suspicious.

Once, only, I was surprised to find no vote on a favourite story, even when I refreshed. I have no explanation for that. I voted again and hoped it wouldn't be removed as suspicious.

If it's happened to you multiple times, is there anything you might be doing that could flag attention? Do you vote on multiple stories in quick succession? Are these stories content entries (which are particularly swept for bad-faith votes, and good-faith votes could get caught up in this)?

I will give the refreshing a shot and see. Go back to the last page a few times to make sure it's loading fully.

Regarding the question about flagging stories quickly or doing something that would attract attention, I doubt it. These stories have been in my favorites lists for years. I have reread them before, and when I get to the end, my stars have always been there. I thought perhaps and update had wiped some of my votes.

Friendly fire happens. It doesn't have to be you behaving badly. If someone else lands on a nearby IP to what you had when you voted, and they're behaving badly, your vote could get caught in the friendly fire.

If the stars are all dark on something you know you voted on, you should be safe to recast your vote that got sucked up by the Hoover. Best as I can tell, logged-in votes are linked to your account, and won't fail to display the stars if you go kill-em-all on your cookies or anything.

( Yes, that same logged-in mechanism should block friendly fire in a perfect world, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't. )

On occasion I've found my scores might have disappeared, but by the same token I'll often read an older story, think it reads a bit familiar, and get to the end to discover I've already voted. It's not something to worry about - in the grand scheme of things our single vote isn't important, it's the en masse result that matters.
