'Pubs Hate Veterans

That is not an answer to the hypothetical question of "if the republicans kill it".

All you're saying is they will pass it, and the veterans get more cash and better healthcare. Which is a diversion away from the hypothetical...
Hypothetical questions don’t require hypothetical answers, it doesn’t solve anything.

Of course, I do. Politicians, of any party are not there to appease their own bruised egos. They are there to take care of business. And taking care of veterans is part of that business even if it means voting with the other side. They (or the Dem's for that matter) should be able to put aside a childish want for revenge to take care of those who put their life and health on the line for our country. Keep in mind those who voted against this bill for no other reason than to make a political statement are also part of the very same group who asked vet's to put themselves on the line in the first place. Now they want to throw them under the bus to make a statement? Doing so shows they shouldn't be in congress but in a kindergarten. I expect adult behavior from my congressional representatives no matter their party, don't you?

So, what you're saying is that they should vote for it no matter what and damn the consequences or what their constituencies think?

Really? What happened to representing ALL of your constituency including those who are concerned about fiscal responsibility and government accountability and not just the ones getting all the biased media press?

It's like you're a fuckwit or something.

From your post you are telling me the majority of Republican constituencies are willing and agreeable to refusing care to veterans for no other reason than as a childish payback? Really? And you consider this an appropriate use of the power our congressional representatives wield? You think that one side should vote down something that most of them see as appropriate, something they agreed with when it was introduced, voted for the first time because they knew it was the right thing to do?

And what of the veterans? I'm sure there are as many Republican veterans as Democrats. What of them? Do you believe they agree with this? Should they suffer for no other reason them a power game? Which by the way will mean nothing in the long run, do nothing other than salve the egos of those who are blocking this bill.

Is that what you are saying? You would encourage politicians to be that petty? This is't a "screw the Dem's" thing. This is an ill conceived plan to do that, but in reality the veterans are the ones being screwed. Apparently that matters not at all to you.

I have said ... one issue, one bill. Others have said ... phooey.

There oughta be a law ... one issue, one bill. If that means 25 bills instead of one, so be it. Bills should be focused on a single issue without cross contamination or pork. Let the Critters make their stand on single issues instead of trying to sneak stuff in as parts of deals.

I have also said that Critters need to vote on the contents of the bill, not how the party leaders want them to vote.

One item, one bill OR a presidential line item veto. Either way.

^^^^ The SCROTE Holes struck the Line Item Veto down.

the bill included a clause for UNLIMITED SPENDING

the Rs introduced a new bill, keeping Vet benefits MINUS the UNLIMITED spending

but you all know that and you need to have a MINDLESS OH PEE
There were also amendments they wanted rot include to improve the bill, so I was right. They just give these things noble-sounding titles because that know that useful tools will use the title exactly the way the OP did. Such shallow-thinking out of the internet age.

The bill is eventually going to pass, just not in the form that the Democrats tried to shove down everyone's throats.

And it will be with overwhelming Republican support.

You heard it here, BUTTERS!

MOOooo...

All of them think that they're honestly presenting policies and positions (I hope).

It's just basic human nature, we are all products of our personal experience and education.

Did you know Evian is naive backwards?

1997, Commander Bone-Spurs says that by avoiding STDs, “It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.”

2017, Commander BS says to the father of a fallen Marine at Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day, “I don’t get it, what was in it for them?”

2019, Commander BS takes $18.4b from the military budget to build border wall.

2020, Commander BS calls dead veterans ‘losers and suckers’.

2022, Republicans vote down Veterans support bill, Cruz and Hawley celebrate stopping the provision of support to veterans with cancer contracted directly through their military service.

The evidence is that Republicans do not support the military.

Hmmm...so the bill passed in June with a Senate vote of 84-14 and a house vote of 342-88. It was sent back for a minor technical problem which did not affect the spending in the bill. The second time around the senate vote was 55-42 which because of the filibuster rule effective killed the bill.

If as you suggest the Republican vote against it was because of excess spending, why did they vote for it the first time?

It appears as though your assertion that the Dems were trying to force something down everyone's throat is erroneous or intentionally misleading. The ONLY reason the Republicans who voted for it the first time voted against it the second time was for payback, because of the maneuver the Dems pulled to pass their spending bill. The Republicans are using the health and welfare of our veterans to sooth their bruised egos and for no other reason.

Yeah, that's really noble of them.

Tomby and the Cruizer are takin' it on the chin over it too.

Good.

Yeah that’s pretty much what I’m getting. That Sen. Patrick J. Toomey (R-Pa.) objected all along to the way the bill would change the accounting of about $400 billion in preexisting veterans spending. Fine, his prerogative.

But the bill passed handily in spite of Toomey’s objections. Then it had to have a technical thing that didn’t change anything at all in the bill. Meanwhile Schumer and Manchin agree on the climate and tax bill. Toomey lobbies his repub colleagues and the exact same bill comes back and *poof* is voted down.

So yeah, why was this *accounting gimmick* okay then, but not now? What could it be?

And I’d believe Stewart over Cruz all day long.

I'm guessing you probably approve of Big Bird, Green Eggs and Ham and Elmo, too, you liberal poster, you. WTF is it with Texas and Cruz and Abbott? And why does my brother want to live there?

Sesame Street and Dr. Seuss have helped generations of kids, even before JK Rowling got another generation to read.

My favorite quote about Cruz comes from Al Franken: “I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz.”

Maybe your brother wants to wear a cowboy hat and snakeskin boots.

Brother is a Vietnamese immigrant housed by my parents through his high school years. He went on to become an engineer for Honeywell. Fathered 3 current physicians and has retired as a successful, Asian-American in our wonderful country that rewards those who work hard, take advantage of our public education system (local Minnesota high school, U of M, etc.) We end up where life takes us. Franken liked Cruz because he had regular fodder for his comedy routine because, frankly, the Honorable Senator from Texas is a joke.

Outstanding for your brother and his family.

However, given what I now know, I’ve no idea what the allure of Texas for your brother is.

I can only speculate. He was transferred there (by his employer) when his daughters were young. He instilled the same work ethic in them that he had when he arrived here at age 14 after being smuggled away in the night by a father that wanted the best for him and his future. Texas has a climate that is more like home and once he'd put down roots, the politics of the area were a cake walk in comparison to what he experienced as a child in the 60s and early 70s in Viet Nam. My guess is that he is more about family and education than about the current politics of the state or the country. He is healthy and wealthy as a result of a solid background and some support along the way. He's in close proximity to his 3 physician daughters and their future families. It will work for him, I'm sure.
