Push (Closed thread)

I stood at the bottom of the stairs and watched all the people file past me on the way home from work. All the vacant skirts and monkeys in suits. Instead of joining them I sidetracked over to the little stall in the station that sold the kind of random stuff people might need before getting on a train. Baby clothes, fishing bait, condoms. All of life's little essentials.

The guy raised his eyebrows without looking up from his magazine, just so I knew he was prepared to serve me. For some reason I asked him for a pack of cigarettes. Even though I hadn't smoked in nearly three years. While he was reaching behind himself to get a pack I lifted a small Chinese lucky cat off his counter and dropped it into my satchel. Then I paid for the smokes and went up onto the platform.

I had a smart card for the rail in my wallet. But again, for some reason I just left it sitting there. I kept an eye out for inspectors and guards instead.

I'd already missed the early train so there were fewer people on the platform. I chose a space near the edge and stood looking down at the tracks, my tall, skinny frame throwing out a near straight shadow behind me. I placed my hands in my pockets so no one would see my fists balled up. I could feel the muscles in my forearms bunching up. It stretched the skin over the scar on my left arm making the wound feel fresh and tight. I usually avoided standing with my hands in my pockets, especially if my sleeves were rolled up. It drew the eye to my wounds and gave the impression of one long injury. The nick above my left eyebrow. The extra cleft in my chin. Then the long gouge down my left arm. It drew people's eyes. Made them look at the rest of my body, until I could hear them wondering if that scar ran the full length of my body. And what bits it had removed in its travel through me.

I smoked the cigarette. A useless habit to have anyway because there's nowhere left to actually smoke. I heard a couple of tuts behind me but just blew a ribbon of white cloud over my head.

Fuck them.

I felt like shouting it.

Fuck them all.

I was about to turn around and say... Something. When I saw her. A girl across the tracks. Sitting on her own. Staring at me with such open curiosity I couldn't move.

OOC. Sorry Nekomata, this thread is closed. Copperas forgot to post that it was. You are welcome to join in somewhere else, but the position of 'the girl' has been taken. Please would you mind deleting your post. Many thanks.x

IC.

I couldn't take my eyes off his face. His icy blue eyes pierced through my very soul and his dark ebony black hair glinted away.

I had had a very tiring day at work, and was now waiting for my train home. To see this adonis opposite me on the platform had cheered me up no end.

His open defiance was what had attracted me in the first place. He was smoking on the platform which was forbidden, and I could see the other passengers around him getting more and more worked up.

Funnily enough this defiance turned me on exponentially.

Suddenly he looked up, and locked ice blue eyes with my chocolate brown ones. I felt a cool sweat break out across my skin, as I flushed bright red; mortified at being caught staring

A train rumbled into the station, and for a moment I lost sight of his beautiful face. When the train departed, I let out a heavy sigh of desolation. The man had gone, and I had to accept the fact that he had left the station on the train.

Never mind, I thought, and opening my book once more I started to continue reading.

I held her gaze for the longest time. There was something about her. Something familiar and yet essentially different. Not an attraction. I couldn't say that. Because it was almost like its exact opposite. More a push. Something telling me to keep away. Which of course had the exact opposite effect.

By the time a train rolled through the station and cut me off from her, I'd already started walking over the bridge to her side of the platform.

From the stairs I could still see her sitting, reading her book. Oblivious to me. And yet every movement she made seem to be entirely for my benefit. When she ran fingers through her hair she was saying 'I want you to do this'. When she straightened out the creases in her pants she was showing me how strong her legs were, how she wanted my hand to rest on her thigh. When she placed a finger to her lips before turning the page I swear to god she was calling out for me to kiss her.

Every cell in my body thrummed with the proximity of her.

I hung back until the train she'd been waiting on appeared. Then telling myself it was just curiosity. Just harmless curiosity, I got onto the same train without her seeing me.
