Amber and Logan Daniels were 18 and 19 years old. Logan was barely ten months older than his little sister. They've always been close; there's always been competition between the two of them; they'll always love each other but they can't help but get under each others' skin. They can't help but push each other's buttons.

It doesn't help that they're in the same grade at school. When Logan was four he got held back a year in kindergarten, putting him in the same class as his sister.

Logan is 5'11", 170 lbs. He's got a nice athletic build to him from years of playing competitive sports, particularly ice hockey in the winter and baseball in the summer. He's a pretty regular guy; he likes sports and video games and girls, guitars and cars and occasionally sneaking into bars. He pushes his buddies around when they tell him how hot his sister is. He can be pretty protective of her, although she has had a few boyfriends in spite of him. Logan has certainly had more than his own fair share of girlfriends throughout his high school years, though he's currently single and planning on staying that way for a while.

They've just graduated from high school. Logan's got a hockey scholarship to go to Michigan State. Amber's not sure what she's going to do come fall. But the ink was still drying on their diplomas when Mom and Dad surprised them with the news.

They were going to take a family vacation to California. They were leaving in three weeks. And they were all driving out there together. They'd never been out west before. Logan was excited to go to California. He was dreading being stuck in the back of the mini-van for all those miles next to his sister.

Amber Daniels was eighteen years young. She was very bright; very intelligent, and made sure people knew it. She wasn't egotistical, just confident. Not to say she didn't have her low points. Her brother sometimes captured those moments and kept them to remind her of them. Logan was nearly a year older than her, and reveled often in being the older of the two.

They'd been together in the same class in school since elementary school, since Logan had been held back in kindergarten...and it just made matters worse. They got in each others way, picked on each other, but Logan also had Amber's back, and she knew it.

She was often frustrated at Logan's attempts to keep every guy on the Earth away from her, especially the hot guys from the hockey team. She knew he just didn't want to imagine his little sister as the prey of one of his friends.

Amber was barely 5'3", and Logan took pride at being additionally much bigger and stronger than her.

Amber was a pretty normal girl, except for the fact that she much preferred watching a good football game over going shopping. She'd easily made friends with girls, but bored quickly of their stories of their latest dates, shopping sprees, and such. She played volleyball on her school's team all through highschool, and was on the swim team for her last two years in school. She had a few close friends who she occasionally went clubbing with, something she could never in a million years let her brother find out about.

Amber's brother, being the excellent athlete he was, had received a scholarship to Michigan State, and her parents couldn't resist often hinting that she should decide what she wanted to do with her life, considering she had just graduated.

Then their parents popped the news on them. In three weeks, they were going on a family vacation to California. None of them had been there before, which was very exciting, but Amber hated the idea of such a long car ride in the back of a van with her obnoxious brother.

"Really? Driving two thousand miles and back to California?" Logan groaned when his parents told him the plan. "Why aren't we flying?" He desperately did not want to have to spend five days, each way, stuck in the back of the van with his little sister.

"Because we'll get to see so much of the country this way!" their father said.

"The Grand Canyon! The Rocky Mountains! The Hoover Dam!" their mother exclaimed, clearly giddy about what would probably be their last family vacation. They hadn't had one in a few years, mostly because Logan and Amber played too many sports to be able to have a proper vacation in the summertime. "It'll be so much fun! You kids will never forget it."

"Exactly," their father said. Their parents were clearly quite pleased with themselves for planning it all out. "And then... the Golden Gate Bridge... Alcatraz... the Pacific Ocean. It's gonna be great."

Logan groaned again, looking down at his sister. He didn't want to say what he was thinking, just because he knew his parents hated it if he said anything mean about his little sister. "There's so much in California to do and see, though, wouldn't it be better if we flew out there and didn't waste all that time stuck in the car?"

"Oh, c'mon, Logan, it's not gonna be a waste of time at all! Family bonding time!" their mother said. "We're driving. That's that."

Amber had stayed quiet during most of the conversation between Logan and her parents, but when her mother mentioned family bonding time, Amber piped up,

"Oh, get off it Mom. It's enough 'family bonding time' being in California, sight-seeing and what not. We don't need to be stuck in a hot car for 5 days. That's just crazy talk. We don't lack the 'funds' to take a plane, what's the real reason you're insisting we drive?"

Their mom hated it when they talked back, but at this point, Amber was pretty angry that they just sprang this on them with no choice, and they didn't seem to leave much room for discussion.

She looked up at Logan, who wasn't glaring at her, for once, so she figured he'd liked what she said.

It was probably the first time in several months that Logan and Amber had agreed on anything. Unfortunately, Dad laid down the law.

"The real reason is because that what we want to do. And you're both coming. It's a three-week vacation. Make sure you get the time off from your jobs."

"But-!" Logan tried to protest again.

"End of discussion!" their father said. "Now, before we go to California, your mother has a project for the two of you in the back yard. It'll probably take a couple of weeks to finish it up, and it'll make her really really happy if you get it done before we head west."

"C'mon, let me show you," their mother said, beckoning them to follow her out to the backyard.

Logan groaned again and looked over at his sister. This was the last thing he needed, to be stuck spending these hot summer days slaving away in the backyard with his sister instead of out playing ball with his buddies.

"Now, before we go to California, your mother has a project for the two of you in the back yard. It'll probably take a couple of weeks to finish it up, and it'll make her really really happy if you get it done before we head west."

"C'mon, let me show you," their mother said, beckoning them to follow her out to the backyard.

"What the hell?" Amber whispered to Logan as they walked out to the backyard. She knew they'd both had plans of how to spend their summer. This was the last summer Logan would have before college, and she knew he wanted to hang out with his guys.

She had a lot of plans too. There were tons of bonfires and beach parties and excuses to get into a bikini.

"Mom, are you serious? Why can't you get some gardener or something to do whatever work you need done? Logan and I have plans. This is so lame!" her hands rested on her slim hips as she stood, glaring at their mom.

"A gardener?" Logan scoffed. He agreed with her that they had plans, and this was quite lame, but he couldn't believe she'd actually said that. "You really want some creepy old dude hanging out in our backyard all day long for the next three weeks?"

"And we don't need a gardener, for the same reason we never got a dishwasher. We've got kids," their mother said, looking sternly at Amber for a moment before turning her attention to the backyard.

She had a long list of things for them to do: plant flowers along the garage and in the garden, mulch for the garden, a bit of landscaping, some tree and brush-trimming, keep the grass cut, and one big project. Mom wanted a good sized hole dug out to they could put in a fish pond.

"Mom, that's ridiculous," Logan said, knowing he'd be the one shoveling all the dirt out of that hole.

"Oh, Logan, it'll be fabulous. Right here is where I want it. You'll see, it'll be great." And with that their mother went inside, leaving the two of them alone in the backyard.

Amber's eyes met Logan's.

"How fucking dare you make me look stupid? You know you'd much rather have someone else do the work than us do it. I know damn well you had plans, and so do I. I know you don't like me anymore than I like you, and spending 2 hot weeks working in the fucking 'garden'. This is bullshit." her hands were still on her hips, and there were sparks in her eyes.

She wasn't done, though, "You know you're going to do all the hard work. I'll help you with some flowers or something. No way am I digging a hole." she whined.

"Oh, is that so?" Logan said, glaring right back at her. "Fine. I'll dig the fucking hole. Certainly wouldn't want you to break a nail, little miss prissy pants. Watch out for worms while you're playing in the garden."

He went into the garage and started looking around for a shovel. He found one, and a wheelbarrow, to load all the dirt into, and came back out with both.

Amber scoffed at his teasing.

But she held up her hand when he came back with tools.

"Okay, whoa. Whoa. Who fucking said we have to start now? I have a party to go to tonight, and I'm not missing it for some stupid family garden project." she rolled her eyes and started to walk away.

"The more of this fucking hole I dig now, the less time I'll have to spend out here with your whiny ass," Logan called after her as she walked away. He started digging. It was not easy work. The soil was hard and rocky. Logan started filling the wheelbarrow. He thought about the party going on tonight. He hoped to hell that he and his sister were going to different parties for once, but he was pretty sure that would not be the case. They always seemed to end up at the same parties.

He started a pile of dirt in the back corner of the yard, once he'd filled the wheelbarrow. He filled it twice more before the sun was starting to get low and he put the tools away and headed inside to take a shower and get ready for the party.

As Logan headed into the shower, he walked by Amber, who was coming out of her room. She wore a short denim skirt over bikini bottoms and a low cut black shirt over her skimpy bikini top. She had her hair up, and just a little make-up on.

"That was really mean earlier." she finally said, coming to stand in front of him. She was almost a foot shorter than him, yet she was seemingly trying to intimidate him.

Logan saw her coming to him and stand up to him in her little party outfit.

"That was really mean earlier."

"So?" he said, digging two fingers into her shoulder, just below the collar bone, and giving her a little shove to get her out of his way. He started heading towards the bathroom again. "Mom's gonna give you hell when she sees you dressed up like a slut again."

Amber squealed in pain and moved out of the way as he shoved her.

"You fucker!" she clutched at her shoulder. "God."

As the next words left his mouth, she pouted, "What the hell, Lo. I don't look like a slut. It's my bikini. I have clothes over it. That's a good thing! Plus it's a beach party, I'm not gonna go in jeans. Why do you care anyways? Aren't you going out tonight, too?"

She rolled her eyes and let him go into the bathroom, hoping they wouldn't end up at the same party. Again.

"Uh, yeah, I'm going out," he said, about to close the door to the bathroom. "Wait, beach party? Down at Orange Lake? God dammit, why are you always following me around?" With that he slammed the bathroom door shut and pulled off his shirt, throwing it to the ground. He could never get rid of her! She was always around! ARGH!

Amber giggled. It was kind of annoying going to the same parties as her brother, but it did get on his nerves more than her. Probably because he wanted to hook up with girls, and knew the chance of him scoring was lower with his annoying little sister around. She, on the other hand, usually didn't hook up at parties, but if she did, she could't care less if Logan was around.

"Wanna call and cancel on your date? Oh...wait. YOU DON'T HAVE A DATE!" she laughed. "Loser." she walked off, and went to grab her bag. Her friend was coming to pick her up soon, and she hoped that Lindsay would be there before Logan got out of the shower.

Logan always had perfect timing. He managed to get out of the shower in the downstairs bathroom, wrap a towel around his torso, and, still dripping a little bit, walk through the house in just the towel and just be heading up the stairs as the doorbell was ringing and Amber was opening the door, her friend Lindsay picking her up.

"Hey girls. See you down at Orange Lake," he said as he headed up the stairs.

"Whatever, I hope we don't see you!!!" Amber yelled up at Logan as he walked up the steps, "Jerk!!!" she rolled her eyes and put her hand on Lindsay's back. "Let's go." Lindsay giggled as she shut the door behind them, walking up the front steps towards her car,

"God, Am. Your brother is SO--."

"FUCK! Don't say it."

Lindsay laughed, after being cut off,
"Chill, babe. It's not that big of a deal. I know you know what all the girls say."

"I try not to." she muttered, tugging at her ponytail. Lindsay just smiled, and got in the car.

"Are we headed straight there or are you going for fashionably late?" She looked over at Amber, and took her devilish smile to mean the latter. She knew Amber had a thing for walking in late, and catching everyone's eye.

Logan got up to his room, dried off, and put on some clothes. Tight, boot-cut dark blue jeans, his trusty old black leather cowboy boots, and a black Rolling Stones tee-shirt over a wifebeater did the trick. He made sure he had his wallet and his phone and sent a text to his buddy Jimmy to let him know he was on his way.

Logan got in his old pick-up truck and fired it up, heading out fo the night. He stopped in at a quickie mart and bought a case of beer, using his fake ID. He swung by Jimmy's place and picked his friend up. Jimmy came out, carrying his old acoustic guitar, with a devilish look in his eye. He put the guitar in the bed of Logan's truck and then hopped in the cab.

"The hell you smirkin' about?" Logan asked him.

Jimmy winked at him, pulling a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. He opened the pack and pulled out a joint. "Gonna give you a little taste of California before you get out there, buddy," Jimmy said, pulling out a lighter.

"Fuckin' A," Logan said with a grin as he pulled away from Jimmy's house and headed out towards Orange Lake.

By the time they got there, the sun was just starting to set out west. They'd smoked the whole joint and were pretty well stoned. Logan grabbed the beer out of the bed, and Jimmy grabbed his guitar and they headed towards the firepit. A few guys were just about to get the bonfire going. The lake looked good tonight. They waved at some of their classmates splashing about in the water. Logan's eyes lingered on Mackenzie Brooks and her rather abundant cleavage as he put the beers in a cooler and broke a bag of ice over the top of them. He cracked one open and took a long drink, sitting back and taking in the beauty around him in his stoned stupor. Jimmy busted out the guitar and was tuning it up as more people started showing up.

Amber and Lindsay drove around nearby for a while, talking. Amber could tell Lindsay wanted to get to the party. Although Amber wasn't the type to go for random sex, Lindsay was. Not to say she was a slut, she just liked a good time.

Because Amber and Lindsay were tight, people assumed that Amber was "easy", just like they thought Lindsay was. So, everywhere they went together, especially parties, Amber had a hard time keeping the guys off her. But she was happy to let her assumed rep hit her brother's ears. She liked when he got riled up, it was amusing.

Amber's phone buzzed with a text message,
"Dude, your brother is gonna be covered with ladies here in a minute, considering he's hanging out with Jimmy who has his guitar out already." Amber rolled her eyes,

"All right, all right, Linds. Let's go."
Amber and Lindsay parked a few blocks down from where the party was, and got out. Amber tucked her cellphone into her shorts pocket, and they walked down the block. Lindsay pulled out a cigarette and offered Amber one. Amber turned it down, but hoped there would be plenty of alcohol. She wasn't thirsty, but she definitely needed to relax after all that had happened today.

Amber saw a bunch of her friends from school, and headed over. Lindsay headed over to the fire, instead.

"Hey! What's goin' on?" she leaned over and took a beer out of the cooler, sitting down on the top of it. She took a long sip, and sighed, "Any catastrophes yet?"

Cori laughed, her arms around the waist of Lindsay's ex-boyfriend, Chris.
"No, not really. Just some people getting high already." Amber's eyebrows shot up.

"You do realize that Lindsay is here, right?" She laughed when they pulled apart, and walked over towards the fire to find Lindsay.

Logan had too many things going on at the moment. Beer in one hand, cigarette in the other, and now he was being offered a joint. The bonfire was burning pretty good at this point. He used two fingers that were holding his beer to hold on to his cigarette and he took the joint. He took a puff on the joint, a nice big hit, holding the thick smoke deep in his lungs, when Lindsay came over and slid into the spot on the log next to him. He smiled when he opened his eyes and saw her, blowing the smoke out towards the sky.

"Toke?" he asked her, offering her the joint. She took it with a naughty little smile and took a hit before passing it on. "There's a bunch of beer in that cooler, help yourself," he said. She did, and sat right up next to him when she sat down again, nice and close. They listened to Jimmy play for a minute and Logan slid an arm around behind Lindsay...

As Amber came towards the fire, she saw a bunch of people sitting around the fire, and a joint being passed along. Then her eyes flicked to Logan, who had his arm around Lindsay, who had her body pressed against his.

"HEY!" she said, loudly announcing her presence. A few guys looked up, winking or smiling, but Lindsay didn't look up. She was enjoying her moment with Logan. "Linds." she nudged her, sitting down next to her.

"Oh, hey." she glared at Amber, and hissed, "Come on, Am. Please?" Amber rolled her eyes and sat on a different log, next to Jimmy,

"Hi Jimmy." she said, smiling. She'd never really liked him, but if Logan was going to attempt at pissing her off by flirting with her best friend, she might as well turn the tables on him. Or try to.

"What's up Amber?" Jimmy said with a smile, still playing his guitar. Logan smirked a bit; he knew that it was useless trying to flirt with Jimmy when he was playing. The one true love in that boy's life was his six-strings, and when he was playing her in his lap the way he was tonight, that was all he was thinking about.

Logan took a last drag on his cigarette and tossed it in the fire. He finished his beer. The joint came back around and he took a hit and handed it off to Lindsay, who took a hit and then handed it over to Amber on the next log. Logan was feeling pretty good at this point. He'd never been much of a pot-head but was enjoying it more and more as the night went on. He was especially enjoying the effect it seemed to be having on Lindsay. He knew she was... friendly, but he'd never thought he had a chance because she was such good friends with his sister.

He took a look over at Amber, and something told him he still didn't have a chance at hooking up with Lindsay.

"Enjoying the beautiful night." She leaned closer, "And, of course, your playing." she leaned into him flirtatiously. The joint came around to her, and she took a short hit, before passing it to some tall guy on her other side. She rested her hand on Jimmy's thigh, as he continued to strum, barely noticing her.

Logan's eyes met hers and she glared. She shook her head at him.

He better not try to get lucky with Lindsay.

"Hey, Linds. Linds. Wanna go for a swim?" She was quite antsy to get away form Logan.

Logan didn't particularly want Lindsay to leave, but she got up anyway. "Sure, Am," she said, giving Logan a little smile before turning to head into the lake with Amber. Logan took a long drink of his beer, and then stopped caring so much that she had left him.

Mostly because he enjoyed every second of watching her peel off her tank top, revealing the little green and white striped bikini top underneath. She had a lovely pair of tits, and the bikini top only served to give her some of the most delicious cleavage he'd seen in a while. She dropped her shorts next, and was wearing matching bottoms that tied together at the sides.

He shook his head. The joint came back around again, one last time, and he puffed and passed and started to get lost in the fire and Jimmy's guitar playing.
