Shopping habits. Let's discuss. Are you a die-hard online shopper? Or do you like the feel of picking up things and putting them in the cart? Do you worry like I do that the retail industry will implode with too few shoppers and all shopping will become some mysterious supply chain delivered to your door? Do you loathe getting dressed and going out? Do you prefer to shop when you lack slacks? Do you trust a guy named Jonathan to pick out your produce? Because let me tell you that Jonathan was a sweet kid and messaged me right back on Instacart and told me the store was out of English cucumbers. However, he brought me squishy grapes and giant, woody asparagus and anemic oranges. Not his fault. He is a kid and doesn't know better. I still tipped him big and gave him a stellar review, but Jonathan's giant asparagus mishap is why I no longer use Instacart. I want to hear about how you shop. Or don't. Poll (pole) to follow.

I have to put pants on and go shopping now. Fml.

I'm not organised enough to do grocery shopping online. I don't know what I want until I get to the store. Buying the same things every week would be so depressing.

Clothing, I have massive jugs and a small waist, so I need to try before I buy. And I don't have the patience to wait a week to do that.

I'll buy pretty much everything else online though.

How can you... There are people in Africa who can't even.. lol. JJ. Food is only something i eat to stay alive. Other than that, i got other things to do.

So, today I was at a food fair. It's like heaven. Artisan cheese, breads, cakes, spices... Street food from around the world. Despite the huge crowds, it was heaven. I've pigged out. It's a good thing I don't have access more often.

It's hard to find exciting food in a supermarket, though it's improved immensely in recent years. I sniff and squeeze produce, because bland fruit is balls. I try to buy local when possible.

Fuckit, I hate regular grocery shopping. Nobody sane gets excited about frozen peas.

I’m still mad at Jonathan for replacing my toothpaste for sensitive teeth with ordinary toothpaste. Jesus Christ, Jonathan. I’m sensitive. You can discern that just by reading the name of the fucking product I picked.

Now that you mention it, though, I should have tipped him better anyway. Poor kid. Picking out products for a bunch of mean, naked assholes too lazy to go out in the world and pick our own damn toothpaste.

One used to be able to walk into a grocery store and hand the clerk a list, who would then load everything into one's vehicle.

Now the customer does all the lifting, and even cashiers are becoming rare.

food shopping i mostly prefer to do in person - i like to wander the aisles, pick things out, like the nicest bananas, the freshest spinach, the 'just perfect for us' joints of meat, the crustiest bread....

i like online shopping for things that are the same wherever you get them (like you can buy pet food, canned stuff, electricals) or if i see something really pretty i'd like to buy, or when ordering presents for my kids back in the uk.

I am a planner and make lists based on what we are eating that week. Even I am depressed by that, but it is the most efficient for our busy lives. If I wasn't stuck on a train or bus or in traffic for half my life, I would shop daily on a whim. Fu, Seattle. Fu and your fucked traffic.

And I'm wearing pants in bed. Ha!
,

Pics!!!!

We have some amazing food at our farmers markets (basically a weekly street fair), but they are thin in the winter. Our growing season is so short here, we have like 9 weeks of awesome produce and farmers markets. It sucks. I was in San Francisco a few months ago and their weekend street markets were amazeballs. It was wintery February and there was local fresh produce and bread and greatness. I filled my suitcase.

Srsly. It is not Jonathan's fault he sucks at picking out grapes and toothpaste. Poor kid is just trying to make a little coin so he can buy some weed. But he can't be trusted any longer. And so I just put on pants.

I remember that. I also remember you could put groceries on an account and pay the account monthly.

I worry every time I go to a Target that Amazon is going to bankrupt them, so I make a point of buying everything that is a universal item, like you said, at Target. I hate shopping though, so I end up going every 3 months and spending bank. But I will do anything to avoid shopping. Except Amazon. Those fuckers are ruining retail and also have really ruined Seattle's entire culture, so I ditched them and haven't missed them at all.

I would like to Express my displeasure at not being on Sinny.

Oh and my groceries just got delivered. True story.

I like to do all of my shopping in person. Gone are the days of weekly menus as I work a lot of nights. I’m looking forward to shopping for stuff for kabobs and whatever looks good for Monday. Everyone will be home!

Now that the munchkins are older, we get lists with links for birthdays and x-mas. That has really cut down on the in person shopping. It’s not nearly as fun for me to shop that way.

I've tried to plan. Financially, it's a much better way to shop and eat. But I just fail utterly. Fortunately, the supermarket is along the nice, easy, 20 minute drive between work and home.
No can do, because I'm no longer wearing them. Or anything else. I'm sprawling out, fan on full, cooling and drying off. I'm too English to be exercising in warm weather, clearly.

I'm pretty lucky with the one near me, but it's always a treat to try something completely different.
It's pretty cool that, living in a country that spans several climate zones, you can actually bring all sorts of things home.

The only time I put hookers in the cart is when I am doing them behind Home Depot.

Totally! The Other hates grocery shopping with me. I could spend a whole day shopping for one meal. Bouncing from one store to the other. I take a lot of time and care in preparation for my meals. I want them as fresh, perfect and delicious as I can possibly make. Then again, if I'm just by myself? Fuck it. 3 frozen pizzas, 2 Swansonz potpies, couple bags of chips and ham. I could feed myself for a month on that.

I use Instacart for work shit. I also use Amazon mainly for work shit. And kindle books. But I LOVE the thrill of food shopping. I will visit stores, farmers markets, farms, and specialty stores for a proper meal if I can find the time. Otherwise I go to my favorite marker that tends to have most of what I like.

As for Jonathan. He didn't fuck anything up because I dont have them get anything that I'm picky about. I pick out produce and cuts of meat that I want. Instacart can get all the other miscellaneous stuff. Dry goods and frozen foods, etc.

Yes it means I'm still going to the store, but it reduces my time there to 1/4 of what it was.

A few years ago I bought a roll of custom shaped rubber gasket designed to slide into a groove on the windows. Fit like a glove. Last week I ordered a new silicone case for my phone that is a big piece of crap.

Make the bastards pay proper taxes...

So, no, my Butcher thanks me every year for my custom. Does Amazon do that! Fuckers.

Sorry I missed your return.
