For me, the answer would be yes... and yes.
I write fantasies, what-ifs, but I write them in actual, physically possible ways. You could do what I write about-- if you happened to be that way inclined, of course.
but--These what-ifs are very often seeded by an actual event. Maybe it went just as I've written it, maybe it didn't go that well, or go that far.
The biggest fantasy elements in my stories IMO, is that my characters come to such quick complicity. I've never written a story about someone not getting what-- or who-- they wanted-- I wouldn't want to read one, either.
