Question for women who do shave..

waitwhatt queried:
i always heard men's razors were better because they tend to have thicker hair they're shaving.
FWIW, my wife insists women's razors are of poorer quality than men's razors.

My GF finds blade shaving is too irritating, so I trim her down with a cheap, small, rechargeable hair trimmer. Naturally this does not leave stubble, but a very short growth. Doesn't look much different than a blade shave, but does not irritate. In any event, I like the look of a bit of dark hair.

Another question - Do you guys/girls find the disposable razor blades about the same as buying one with interchangeable blades? The last one I tried was the Disposable Mach(3?4?) Mens.

I like my Venus razor. I think it comes down to cost. I read an article about razors in Cosmo or one of those magazines. Scientifically they all do the same thing cut the hair to measurements in microns. The magazine pointed out that what really does matter the most is the preparation of the area to be shaven. The common element, make sure the hair erect enough in the follical base for the blade to smoothly pass over and cut. A debate can be made for the use of shaving cream versus soap, I personally use hair conditionar. But sadly how well you can contort and manipulate your skin with one hand and use the razor with the other gets you the best shave. :)

honestly, my experience is that for razors, you get what you pay for. disposables never do as good a job as the ones with replaceable cartridges, and that more blades = closer shaves.

i think however that preparation can certainly mitigate that somewhat.

At home I use a Mach 3 men's razor with replaceable heads.

When I travel I use Mach 3men's disposable razors.

The difference in shave quality between the two is huge. Go for the quality razor with the replaceable heads, definitely.

I use the Schick Intuition for shaving. I like the cartridges with the moisturizing bar because I never cut myself and it's very simple. I have sensitive skin too, but this one doesn't cause me any irritation. My only problem is that it is bulky and I have to trim a lot beforehand. I wish I could find something smaller that worked as well!

I used to use a women's venus, but now I just wax.. less maintenance and feels awesome!

I tried the Gillette Fusion razor..the one that is battery operated just because it was on sale and I got it for $3 with a coupon..it sucked. Might be better at a vibrator than a razor.

Tried the Schick Quattro a few of you mentioned and wow..definitely better than that Gillette Fusion.

Also..tried Veet in the past. That stuff is weird. It would break the hairs in half and to actually get them out from the roots I'd have to actually pull them out. Just didn't work the way it should've and is too stupid.

Veet is horrible.

Nair is better.

Magic Shave (the sensitive skin powdered formula version either in the men's shaving or ethnic hair care section of the store) is the best depilatory we've tried, but it still comes with the risk of irritation, allergic reaction, chemical burns and leaves a funky smell. We've found it works better on Hubby than me.

I use razors for men, because I find female razors too twangy and flimsy. I get lots of tug and pull with the likes of Venus, so I opt for the likes of Gillette Fusion (here in the UK). I still have a bit of itchy regrowth, but I get a much closer shave than if I use a Venus.

i have the answers

Schick naturals for sensitive skin and whalah baby! Beautiful soft & smooth:D!

I have crazy sensitive skin, even to shaving if I am not well prepared! I use a mix of baby shampoo and some conditioner instead of shaving cream, and that has helped a TON! Also, I use the Noxema (yes, like the face cream) Triple Blade razors. They are great!

I have always wanted to try waxing, but in my small town-- the only shop that does it is not very reputable. Maybe when we go on vacation next month I will try it out! :D Yikes!

Hey Kitty, I use Dove body wash and I too have sensitive skin. Give it a try one time!

I use a mens five blade razor and then while im still in the shower i apply an unscented conditioner and leave it on for two minutes and then rinse. :) very effective for shaving down below. leaves your skin soft and razor bumb free.
