racism / raceplay

I'd simply offer that Lit has a Interracial category with over 17K stories and a search for BBC brings back thousands of hits across a variety of categories.

Not sure where your stories fall, but I'd say you're safe in a general sense. As for specific words. you can PM the site admin with that little envelope up in the upper right corner of this screen. her name is Laurel. Just be polite and patient. She doesn't always get around to replying to every message.

I've had a few readers stating one of my stories has racist stereotypes. They mistake the Mail MC for black (he's German and speaks with a German accent), and the woman he has a business trip fling with is white. It wasn't Interracial. In one scene, which had a black man sitting near the MCs, the man whispered to his companion, "Do you think he has a big black cock?" Which was the only thing that might be constructed as racist. But that certain crowd hammered me in comments and downvotes. It was in LW, so I was asking for the treatment! I'd been here before and returned after a long absence. It had been on here, but it wasn't published in LV then. What the fuck did I know?

Thank you to all for your advice.

Here's a supplementary question: Would it be OK for me to use explicitly racist vocabulary in the title? The best title I can think of for the story, for plot and character reasons, as well as ironic commentary on the p0l1t1c@l implications of raceplay, includes the N-word. On the negative side, would it attract too much disapproval from the sort of people who wouldn't want to read the story anyway? Or, on the positive side, would it scare them off reading it so that they wouldn't need to be offended any further?

For comparison, I wrote a story called A Worthless Filthy Fucking Smoking Trash Cunt Whore. The title is ironic, and also plot- and character-driven. Some people have said it is too explicit. I haven't changed it, though, as it encapsulates important aspects of the protagonists' relationship, and the heroine's self-image (though I had to shorten it to fit into the Literotica submission form)...

Thoughts?
I wouldn't advise it.

Mixed woman married to a white man here.

My husband and I do occasionally dabble in raceplay but nothing really too intense. I've thought about incorporating raceplay in a couple of my stories but I'm very gun shy about it since I don't want my readers getting any wrong impressions about me.

Agreed. I once got a private message from an Asian reader who really wanted more stories involving women humiliating and degrading Asian men. That's just one person, obviously, but where there's a niche, there's an audience.
It's a definite niche - and I've had quite a few asian female readers from all over - China - Japan - Oz - UK - US - Canada - Thailand - who gave me positive feedback on my WMAF stories - another niche readership

I write cuckold stories. No, I never cuckolded my first husband nor my ever-so-much-better second husband. We are an interracial couple with a mixed-race son. And I know, not from first-hand experience, that all black men being BBC is a myth. But it is a trope, and I play into it because that's what I expected. Even so, I'm accused of being a racist. I'm not! I write what is expected in the category. I've kind of trapped myself in this category. I do write erotic horror, but haven't written a lot of in that one. I haven't written much this year, but I plan on buckling down and writing more and trying to vary my stories more as well.

I publish a lot of WMAF stories on Amazon and through Draft2Digital, and they consistently outsell than the White-only stories. By coincidence (or perhaps not), my cuckolding stories outsell the non-cheating stories, so the winning combination seems to be married Asian women cheating on their Asian husbands with White lovers.

How do you find Black Male Asian Female...? Have you done any of those? I have two novels I'm 80% done with that are BMAF - wondering if it might be better to change them to WMAF.

Hmmmm, lots of food for thought. I've got a couple of novels on Amazon, the first from 2018 - WMAF, and they're still both selling away. Been intendimg to do more for a while now and just getting around to it.

Wondering how Black Male Asian Female compares to WMAF for sales. I'm doing both right now, so I guess I'll find out. LOL.

I've only tried that combination once. It was a Loving Wives story that went all in on the interracial cuckolding tropes. As for how BMAF would do as a normal erotic novel, I have no idea. I can't say I've seen any examples on Amazon, but I have noticed that for regular romance, BWWM seems to be the most popular interracial pairing.

Na. Stay away from the N-word. There's no way it's necessary for a story on here.

That's a silly comment. It's also a snap judgement by someone who doesn't like snap judgements.

This is a fiction site. There is such a thing as context. There are also characters and heaven forbid some of them are villains, and some of those villains may even be racists. There is also authenticity of setting and scene. The n-word is used in the real world in many different contexts a jillion times per day so why would it not show up in a fiction story now and then? And even if it might be used in a racist narrative (should it get past lit's rules) the story would have to stand on its own two feet with the readership, and there is still something called freedom of expression. Any writer who wishes to publish a racist narrative must be prepared to out themselves as racist and to deal with those potential consequences.

I don't now, but you can give it a try and let us know how that market is.

The person asking for permission to use the N-word is ASKING people to share their snap judgements. They're ASKING for opinions.

In my opinion, 'people use the word every day' still doesn't mean it's necessary for this site, or anyone's story. If your story hinges on using that word for 'authenticity' chances are, it could use a bit more work. & it's not like any of the works here are being submitted for the Booker Prize or anything. Is anyone really going to say 'it was a GOOD story, but would have been BETTER if you used the N-word'? Nah. I think this is a silly argument. You disagree? Fine. Defend people's right to use the N-word but it's not a hill I'd choose to die on. Certainly not in this weird, niche corner of amateur writing for fun where we are. We're not rocking the foundations of the literary world here. I think we can live without ONE word.

There are TONNES of things this site won't publish. Tonnes of things that happen 'every day' that this site won't let you write about. It's not the end of the world, or the end of creativity if you can't use the N-word or something else.

As for freedom of expression, that doesn't mean a website doesn't have the right to have its own rules. If anyone's really dead-set on including the N-word in their smut, if there's REALLY a need for it, set up a site of your own & rub my face in all the advertising $$$ you draw from servicing that need.

Listen to yourself. What your argument is saying is that the n-word (in particular) is never needed, therefore no one should ever use it, since it will never make your story better. Well that's just silly and overly judgemental. Not ONE story on this site can appropriately use the n-word, in ANY context, EVER? Why, because it's a smut site? Tastes are very wide on this site and there are thousands of novels posted here, some of them on a high poignant level which may well have a completely valid context (artistic or otherwise) for the n-word or any other hateful slur. Who are you to define the tastes of the entire site? Which of those serious stories shouldn't be here?

So a romance set in the antebellum south amid heavy racial tensions should never ever include the n-word for authenticity or otherwise, or else it does not belong on a smut site? Seriously? That is the 'hill that you die on'?

What rule? Lit has no rule against hateful slurs (racial or otherwise) in context. No one is rubbing anyone's face in anything. Where have you come up with this?

Look, I'm not stopping you. It sounds like (for you) it's really important you're 'allowed' to use the N-word. For whatever reason. Go nuts. I think it's stupid. But you do you I guess.

Yes it is important. Damn straight. And the only thing that you have right here is that you aren't stopping me. It's important for everyone because it's freedom of expression. All right, no one use the n-word again because crazyDi doesn't want to hear it. But then I don't like the word cunt so no one should use that ever either. There's no reason to just use pussy or vagina or twat instead. But wait, Sue here doesn't like the word twat, it's a trigger from her abuser so that's out too. Then Mike here can't stand the word dick because it sounds childish and reminds him of kiddie porn so we have to use penis or cock, but Dave doesn't like cock, so we can't use that either.

This is the world that you are asking for. One where people's feelings take priority over freedoms and ultimately over the truth. Art shows us life, but thanks to all this PC censorship - that's exactly what it is - censorship - art can't show us life and society stays blind to the truth.

Now I know that I'm not convincing you and I don't care, but I say this on the record EMPHATICALLY for all to see. Freedom of expression and the truth are far more important than yours mine or anyone and everyone else's feelings.

If I use the n-word in a story it is for a purpose, not just for the hell of it, and so what even if I do for the hell of it? You don't like that, not mine or anyone else's problem or even business.

That's why it's important.
