I may or may not post past poems posthaste or construct current conscious currents into compositions. Congruity; a premium. Coherence; dubious. Creativity; debatable.

Anyway, the following never got posted anywhere and was written for/in a group therapy session almost 5 years ago. I figured I might as well transition it from an old notebook to the everlasting maw that is the internet. It never had a name before now, just a date.

Wilting

Wilting;
Wounded worried words wonder.
Whether weather withholding
Wonderous wild worthiness.

Or:

Resounding emptiness;
Nestled in nooks and nothingness,
Of heart and mind: Resilience.

Small rooms; large thoughts —
No room; life halts —
Mountains of minutia,
Maddening memories of dubious
Heartstrings

Chaos
Carefully contained in coronations of;
Disgust, self-hate. Defeatist foundations shove
Self.

Withered wilted wonders within,
Resounding recriminations reemerge;
Maddening memories maul and maim.
Chaos churns, crushes, consumes.

But yet I still persist
— Why?

Two very old Haiku and a Senry.

The Moon (Haiku)

The Moon in the sky,
Free and ever floating.
Comes to me again.

The Stars (Haiku)

The Stars so faint,
The Stars glowing bright.
Cold in the night.

Emotions (Senyru)

Emotions instilled,
Into your soul and being.
Shown from dual orbs.

I realized I didn't really leave room (or ask) for comments, critiques, suggestions, or submissions. Feel free. This is mostly just a threat (Edit: This is a typo, it's supposed to say thread... but I'm leaving it. I'm threating to ramble at you all!) to ramble and post errant thoughts in (or out) of poetic form.

Love isn't Blind, Its Deaf

Love isn't blind, as people say,
It's deaf, from what I heard today.
Deaf to all those who cry out in pain;
All those who wander lost in the rain.

Love is deaf to those who suffer in its name,
Love is death without the glory or fame.
Death and Love its all the same,
Because of those that take it falsely in name.

People die for Love by there own hands,
And yet no one truly understands.
It's all pointless in the end:
Neither Love; nor Hate; nor any preference; can mend.

Mend the hearts of those in pain
From the simple word: Love; which, in itself, is vain.
Only a few words caused more grief and pain but good poetry,
Such words are: War; Death; Loss; Poverty.

Love maybe blind, as people say,
But it's also deaf, from what I heard today.
Deaf to all those who cry out; in agony and pain,
All those who wander lost in cold, dark rain.

Another old poem (that I tweaked very minorly and fixed a few "its/it's" problems). Also... bluuuhhh. That forced 'rhyme' between Poetry and Poverty and simple AABB rhyme scheme. I wonder if I could rewrite this to be better but, at the same time, leaving it as it was is probably purer to the sentiment from which it was written.

No poems this time, just ramblings.

Man, reading the Thread of Forms and some other threads hither and yon makes me feel like a complete, well, Moron. There is, after all, a reason I choose and (generally) like this user name besides the reference to the naming conventions of a web-comic. But, man, there are times when I truly feel like I earn the title.

I have absolutely no grasp of meter. At all. Even reading Shakespeare, I just don't get it. My favorite of Shakespeare's plays is Hamlet, which contains my favorite soliloquy; that I quote, and butch because of a shoddy memory, all the time. That being the famous "To be; or not to be." I've read and liked (but no longer remember) a couple of his Sonnets, too. I want to say Sonnet 3 was one I liked, but I no longer remember it. However, I still don't really 'get' it. And I've tried, in the past.

I focus on "feeling" and "flow" more than strict meter requirements. I seem to (constantly) break or eschew structures; except Haiku and Senryuu, strangely enough. Even poems where I try to follow form and meter requirements I wind up failing and/or falling short. The feel and flow of something (and whether I choose to purposefully disrupt either or both of those) seems more important to me than where the stressed and unstressed vowels and/or consonants are.

The first "poem" in this thread is probably the best example of that. Does it have structure? Yes, but no. Is it following rules? Maybe. The flow is all over the place but still, to me, somehow makes sense. Do I think it is good? No idea! Am I 'proud' (as much as I have any pride at all) of it? I feel more yes than no.

I feel I should say that this isn't me fishing for praise, compliments, or even interaction (although knowing I'm not shouting into the void would be nice, lol). I'm just venting thoughts. I'm absolutely positive I am not alone in feeling like a hack, charlatan, and/or total bozo, especially when comparing their own work(s) to another(s). It is just hard to not let those thoughts interfere.

And now for something completely different...

This is an old (24 years old; oof, my bones) "semi-erotic poem", as I called it.

Screams

Screams
Moans
These are your sounds

Moaning
Cooing
These are your doings

Pleasure
Ectasy
These are your feelings

Oh
Baby
That is what your saying

And
Then
Loving you with my hands is what I'm doing.

Not great; not terrible. It's okay.

Hi. You're not shouting into a void! People get busy here (especially this time of year) and their focus is elsewhere. I should have welcomed you sooner but I'm getting over a virus and couldn't deal with much else for a few days. I'm the forum moderator and we love having new writers find this outpost of Lit. Glad you're here!

Don't feel intimidated by anything you read here: we all just love writing poetry and being around others who do. Some of us love form and metrics (Tzara, who started the Thread of Forms, is a whiz at it and has been very kind in teaching those who want to learn and practice here). I write form and free verse though lately I've been focused on forms, but everyone here is welcome to follow their own interests and work at their own pace. This is a place to promote poetry, not judgment.

We have a Poem-A-Week thread (a new one is coming for 2027) and many poetry challenges you can try out if you're interested. They're all open to everyone. Hope you stick around!🌹

Hello. Thanks. And I know, that was more a joke at my own expense since that whole post probably came off sounding as baiting. I realize I'm probably a bit too present presently but the blame, perchance, partly lies with my penchant for procrastination and an abundance of time. I do hope you (continue to) feel better, though.

I am, and always have been, overly critical of my own stuff. Even, and often especially, if others have said it is good. I figured it was a busy time of year and I, myself, have perhaps committed myself to 'doing too much' despite my abundance of time. Writing a story for this month's challenge. Pledging to myself to write (and then partly procrastinating on) a 50k word 'novel' for NaNoWriMo. And so on.

I saw them and considered that but, outside of the two or three Haiku I wrote over in AH's Haiku thread, I've not written a poem, for myself and of my own accord, in probably more than 15 years. The first one in this thread is from 2022, but I wrote that as because of "art day" in Group Therapy. So I'd have to get back into it (and actually feel something worth expressing, lol). When I'm moved to write, I can be quite prolific, so I'm sure I'll have a thing or two to share... Eventually.

Thanks again for the welcome.
