Reading Books For Pleasure

Of course I have!!! The 2nd book was a little hard to get through without the Spanish translations. But yea, love his bleakness. Good stuff!

if you enjoyed those, then can i recommend 'o pioneers!'.

its really great. :)

59.) The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss 2/5

This one was strange for me. Like a poem, but not with much substance. I like the character it is based on but this didn't make me feel like I knew her better at all.

60.) White Trash Zombie Gone Wild by Diana Rowland 4.5/5

Love this series and I typically read one on the beach. Fab fun!

Endangered by C. J. Box 4.75/5

Always good and perhaps this one was even better!

56.) Imager by L. E. Modesitt, Jr. 4.5/5

Really enjoyed this fantasy book. I will be reading more in the future.

Modesitt is a favorite author for me. His Imager series is a well done advance/twist on his Recluce series. I started reading his works with the "Ecolitan" books which are hard to get without ordering them. (I like to browse the stacks.) If you're into that sort of fantasy, he will enchant you forever. I just finished his latest Imager book "Madness in Solidar." Not as well done as the others, but still a 4/5.

Working on a book by Dick Francis now. "Hot Money." He's a good author and knows his stuff and how to bring it out to the reader.

Good to hear. Thanks! I have enjoyed Dick Frances in the past.

62.) Hexed by Kevin Hearne 4.95/5

Wish Girl By Nikki Loftin 4/5

Darius Bell and the Glitter Pool by Odo Hirsch 4.5/5

My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares 3/5

Three Hands for Scorpio by Andre Norton 2/5

68.) Education of a Wandering Man by Louis L'Amour 5/5 Very good. Very quotable.

Nobody's Horses by Don Hoglund. 3.5/5

I scored it low because it's a bit draggy. BUT BUT BUT, it's about the wild horses on the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and the effort to save them from extinction. True story. If you're at all interested in horses, you should read it just for the historical aspects about the wild herds and how the government didn't care if they died. White Sands is the most dangerous place in North America, yet there are some wild horses still living there today.

Actually, this sounds beautiful.
Thanks.

I suspect this would made me feel sad and powerless?

Hexed by Kevin Hearne 4.95/5 Hits my Urban Supernatural fav genre, full of action and makes me laugh.

Wish Girl By Nikki Loftin 4/5 Very sweet but somewhat gritty juvenile novel.

Darius Bell and the Glitter Pool by Odo Hirsch 4.5/5 A juvenile novel that was charming.

Pay Me In Flesh (Mallory Caine, Zombie at Law) by K. Bennett 4/5 Again, urban supernatural, made me laugh, took me on a fast ride. I'm reading this trilogy back ackwards by accident but loving each book anyway.

Education of a Wandering Man by Louis L'Amour 5/5 Very good. Very quotable, a memoir of reading and travel as education. Sort of made me want to read his book list but his books are not my books. That being said, he is clearly a man of his times, open minded for such but yeah and his language shows it.

Furry, what did you like about some of the books you so highly rated?

It actually shows that perseverance can overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and has a good ending for the most part. Not sad at all.

Blood Kin, 5/5
Shadow Kin, 5/5
Fire Kin, 5/5
Iron Kin, 5/5

A SF fantasy series by M. J. Scott. VERY unique. Hoping she writes one more to finish the story. DAMMIT, I want to know what happens to Saskia!

I'm on the final book of the Atlantis trilogy by AG Riddle "The Atlantis World"

Book 1 was good, I felt book 2 was a little tedious and I'm finding I'm not in a rush to finish book 3 as I feel the plot has just dragged on.

In all fairness, it could be that Jhereg keeps sidetracking me each evening when he starts tickling my legs with his crop...nahhhh that couldn't be it.

Beguilement
Legacy
Passage
Horizon by Lois McMaster Bujold. 6/5

OMG this series is wonderfully unique! If you read fantasy, you have GOT to read these.

I've read one of these and want to read more!

Keven Hearne's Iron Druid series is pretty fun.

I like Jim Butcher's Dreisden Files, but its been waaaaaay to long a wait for "Peace Talks" to hit the shelves. Apparently JB is working on that part of the series along with the wrap-ups, which should bring the series to 21-22 books (not including short stories).

For the present, I'm re-reading Dumas's "Three Musketeers" followed by the "Man in the Iron Mask".

Amy Poehler's Yes Please. My reaction to the book can be summed up in a simple phrase: No thank you. I didn't like it at all. It was a weird un-book that would have benefitted from a lot of editing. Poehler kept saying in he book how hard it is to write a book and how she didn't enjoy it at all, and doesn't want to share stuff about her life with strangers. Here's an idea, don't write a memoir in that case.

Erika Fatland's Sovietistan. It was so interesting! A book about some of those -stan countries in Central Asia. Made me want to go there and see things for myself.

I also read an excellent book about the current situation in the Middle East. My mind is still whirring with all the new thoughts and information I got from the book. Really, really good. I love books that make me look at things differently and this one certainly did. Only available in Finnish, so telling the name and author makes little sense.

How do you know you have no Finnish lurker fans, and that the book will not be translated at a later date? ;)

Ha, if the Finnish lurkers want to find out the name of the book, that'll be a good reason for them to make an account and send me a PM. If it gets translated, I'll let you know. :p
