Rescue

Zarl, of the Macrai-Itoche

His breathing began to even out, and his heart began beating normally again. His chest moved with his breath, and his eyes remained closed. Although his body was now managing to fend for itself, little else was going on.

His brain was in a kind of stasis. His mind had shut down with the release of power, but there was nothing to bring it back up. A shock to the system would work best, but he had no way to convey what he needed, as he'd had no way during the attack.

And so he remained. His eyes closed, and his breathing even, he simply lay there. His mind closed off, he had no idea what the others were saying, or how far off they were from being able to help him. They couldn't grip the problem he had faced and was now facing, and so all was left up to chance.

“Hmmm, well the name sounds familiar to me but for some reason I just can’t place it. Maybe I heard the name mentioned in the village where I lived, but I’m not sure.”It still bothered him that he couldn’t recall where he had heard the name before today.

He looked as the rabbit was caught. “Hotaru, if you could hand one of those daggers your sister gave you.”He took the dagger she handed him, “You don’t have to help with this you know. You might not want to look.”

As she looked away he moved to the rabbit and quickly put it out of its misery and removed it from the snare. Hearing another of the traps go off. “Well it looks as if we’ll have two for dinner, we need a few more as I’m sure several of our group could eat one on their own.”

He looked to Hotaru, “We’ll get these two back to camp and I’ll come back out to check the other traps and take them down if they are empty. I wouldn’t want anything to get caught in them if we left them behind.”

He went to the other snare and did the same with the second rabbit. Returning fairly quickly to Hotaru’s side. He smiled. “Well we should head back. With these two to start should be fine.”

(ooc: sorry all I do not really know how to deal with hunting rabbits, so hopefully my semi-explanation of what Logan was doing will work for story purposes :) )

Levaste and Tamra begin gathering wood for the fire, talking back and forth about each other.

L: "So what brings you out here little one?"

T: "Well my family was really restrictive of me, and I just got fed up so I left."

He smiles a bit, picking up a large piece of wood.

L: "Well you must have been pretty powerful with magic to be able to run away so young."

T: "Well...not really. I only know of one spell, and even then it's weak at best."

He pats her on the back slightly.

L: "Well if we have some more free time later, we can work on a few spells together."

She blushes as they continue to talk and gather wood, staying out for about thirty minutes before heading back to camp.

- Hotaru followed Logan back to camp, but she was surprised to see that Zarl was on the ground and Bunny was holding his head in his lap -

Bunny - "Hotaru Come quick! I need your healing magick right away!"

- Hotaru nodded and ran over, her and Logan had been gone for about a half hour.. but she never expected to come back to something like this... -

Hotaru: "What happenend?"

Bunny: "Don't ask questions, just use your magick on him... "

- Hotaru nodded, not adding anything else because she knew her sister met business..

Hotaru eased onto her knees beside him, as her body began to glow a warm purple hue..

As the young woman closed her eyes and rubbed her hands together, the healing magick began to intensify...

Hotaru placed her hands on Zarl's chest, letting her energy heal him, and pull him back into reality..

Because, it wasn't only healing magick.. it was something else... a powerful magick made to counterattack dark influences....

Bunny just watched, hoping that everything.. would turn out ok... -

As Hotaru placed her hands on him, two things immediately happened. The first was that the healing aspect of the spell did nothing, surging through his body and finding no true physical problems. The second was what the spell's effect to counteract dark influences did.

Although it was far too late for the initial spell to be reversed, seeing as how it had already run it's course and resolved itself, it could not be the target of the spell. Zarl himself, being a creature created from the Darkness, got an immediate reaction to the spell.

And that reaction was pain. Luckilly, the spell was too weak to cause any physical damage, but it lighted every nerve in his body. The stasis his mind had undergone was immediately lost. His eyes snapped open and he stared straight up. His mouth began working, but he couldn't get words to form. Suddenly, his hand snapped outand grabbed Hotaru's wrist, breaking her contact.

"Owww. Jeez, I'm up already,......For crying out loud, that hurt." He rubbed at the area she had been touching, and looked up, seeing Bunny and realizing his head was in her lap. He grinned broadly.

"Well, Hell-lo sugarcakes."

- Hotaru blinked and stepped back -

Hotaru: "I'm sorry.. I don't know much about you, I didn't know what would work... "

- Bunny looked at Zarl with a thoughtful smile, then with a serious look -

Bunny: "You had me worried.. what happened to make you react like that?"

Lorren

are you ok Zarl? what happened to you?

'looking over his shoulder, wondering how the young woman he brought into camp was doing, looking to still be out cold'

i think she will be alright Hotaru, just a nasty bump on the head

so whats for dinner? 'laughs out loud'

Standing there watching over the group as Hotaru had rushed to Zarl's side. He stayed back, since he had no clue how to help.

He shook his head and looked to Lorren as he heard him ask what was for dinner. "Hotaru and I brought back two rabbits. If someone knows how to prepare them, I would apppreciate it so I can go retrieve the other snares. And check if any others were caught."

He smiled up at Bunny, and shifted, resting in her lap. In reality, he didn't quite trust himself to attempt standing, but it was an enjoyable way to spend the morning. He thought back to just before he'd blanked out, and gave a shrug.

"Oh, normal response. You do know that the elf ain't an elf, right? Or, at least, I seriously doubt it. .....So, you worried about me, huh, sugarcakes?"

He smiled. "Mmm. How about you and me go off someplace and I take away your worries, ehh? And it's okay, Hotaru. Just, really, don't do that if you don't need to."

Bunny - "Prepare rabbits? I will volunteer, I know how to do it... "

- Hotaru blinked and tilted her head, then nodded as she remembered her sister bringing home rabbits one winter when food was scarce.

Bunny looked down at Zarl and nodded -

Bunny: "I was beginning to think there was something strange abour that elf myself.. but on the other hand, it looked like he was helping us, not hurting us... "

- Hotaru nodded, once again -

Hotaru: "He looks very kind"

Bunny: "Heh.. and very handsome... "

Hotaru: "I don't know, maybe he is a shapeshifter?"

- Bunny had eased Zarl's head out of her lap, and had reached a standing position... walking over to the two rabbits she picked them up and examined them -

Bunny: "Hmm... they need to be skinned, then we can roast them... Hotaru, i know how screamish you are so you better turn your eyes"

- Hotaru nodded and turned her attention to Logan.. -

Hotaru: "What do you think about the elf Logan?"

- Bunny had the two rabbits skinned and thin twigs punched through them in hand-made rotassires... all that was left now, was that fire wood to get the fire going..

It would seem to most that Bunny was more of the "jill of all trades" at that moment... -

Bunny: "Well there we go, all ready to eat in about 10... "

- She heard what Zarl said, but was too busy now, looking off in the elf's direction.. -

Bunny: "They went to get more wood for the fire didn't they?"

They come back into camp carrying large armfulls of firewood. They are obviously having a good time and chattering back and forth. They plop the wood down next to where the fire will be placed and look around.

L: "So anything interesting happen while we were gone?"

T: "Yeah sorry it took so long, he was showing me a few more spells. I almost know how to levitate stuff now."

She gives a big grin and hugs Levaste as she heads over to Hotaru and Logan, leaving Levaste brushing himself off.

T: "So did you two find anyting good to eat?"

He talked with Hotaru as Bunny quickly skinned and prepared the two rabbits.

“I don’t know what to think, he makes me a bit uneasy, but then again so does Zarl. But I guess it was the way I was raised, most people in my village always talked bad about monsters of any kind and elves they considered the same as monsters.”

Then he remembered Tamra was an elf as well. “I probably offended Tamra when I told her they guy made me uneasy because he was an elf, I didn’t know she was one. But I guess he’s alright, since he’s off helping her gather firewood.”

He looks over as the two return. “And here they are now.” He smiles as Tamra asks if they brought anything back. “Yes we caught two rabbits and I need to go back out and gather the other snares so that no others get caught and suffer needlessly.”

He looked to Hotaru. “Would you like to go back out with me? Or maybe Tamra would like to go with us as well.”

Zarl, of the Macrai-Itoche

For once, today, Zarl was happy he'd been turned down. With attention away from him at the moment, he began to sit up. It was a lengthy proces, and he had to grit his teeth. He was breathing deeply when he finally got to his feet.

He spread his wings, and looked over at the elf. He turned away, and found himself a place to sit, silently grateful that no one seemed to notice how drained he was. He sighed happilly once he was seated, and gave a small yawn before leaning forward. Hid elbows braced on his knees, his hands propping up his face, he stared dully at the fire.

He wondered slowly if he should tell the others about the elf, but decided against it, as he was nearby. It would not do to rile a dark wizard of unknown power, especially with only himself on guard. His gaze turned from the fire to look at Bunny, and found himself staring at her as he sat, exhausted.

He didn't feel lust, he was far too tired, both physically and mentally, to bother with such things. But he found his attention drifting to her anyway, and he watched her with interest.

- Hotaru looked at Logan for a minute, then looked at Tamra, then looked at the elf... -

Hotaru: "Well, I have an idea.. "

- She smiled warmly, comfortable with Levaste once she saw the way he acted with Tamra -

Hotaru: "Why don't Logan and Tamra go for rabbits, and I join um... the elf ... in fishing?"

Bunny: "NO!"

- Hotaru blinked slightly as Bunny shouted out and grabbed Hotaru by the wrist -

Bunny: "um... stay here and help me with the fire... "

- Hotaru blinked, and looked at Logan and Tamra -

Hotaru: "Um.. maybe you guys could go fishing too? Some fish would go good with the rabbits... "

“I can check the snares alone. Maybe Tamra and Staveel can go get some fish if there is a water source close enough.” He smiles, “I’ve never been real good with fishing.”

He looked over to Zarl, wondering if he was ok, but figured it best not to ask him to help, as he didn’t look quite with it yet.

He would have asked Lorren so they could talk about his sword but he was busy checking on the girl he had brought into camp. He then looked to Hotaru and Bunny, “Hotaru, you might want to see what help you can give the girl Lorren brought in.”

With that he made sure he had his dagger in his boot. “Well I’ll be back soon, hopefully with another rabbit or two.” And he headed back out towards where he and Hotaru had set up the snares.

Tamra smiles at the mention of her and Levaste going back out.

T: "Yeah, we can do that. Maybe he can show me a few new tricks."

He smiles as he puts an arm around her.

L: "Yeah, you are however welcome to join us."

He picks up his quiver and hands Tamra hers.

L: "These should work for spears."

- Hotaru blinked and sat down with a sigh... as long as her sister was around, she couldn't go and have any fun... and it certainly wasn't fun having an overprotective sister... -

Hotaru: "I'm going to go for a walk alone... "

- Bunny protested, as always, but Hotaru gave her a serious look and Bunny admited defeat...

Hotaru had grabbed her backpack, and headed towards the lake.. -

~

- When Hotaru got to the lake she looked around and made sure she was alone before she changed into her swimsuit... grabbing her towel she dipped her foot in the water, to test out the temperature...

Satisfied with the water she slipped inside.. closing her eyes as she floated against the cool water, not caring that it was dark.. just enjoying her time alone... -

Returning to camp a short while later with two more rabbits and the rest of the snares. He found Bunny near the fire with the other two. He dropped the snares they had made, near the fire and offered the two rabbits to Bunny.

“Hey, here are two more rabbits, maybe this will make enough for all of us if Tamra and Staveel bring back some fish.” He had taken the time to skin and dress the rabbits this time, saving Bunny from having to do it.

He looked about a moment, and noticed that Tamra and Staveel hadn’t returned as of yet and Hotaru was missing as well. “Um, Bunny, where is Hotaru? Did she decide to go fishing with Tamra and Staveel?”

- Bunny looked up at Logan and shook her head -

Bunny: "Hotaru said she was going for a walk... she didn't bother to tell me where she went so I assume she just needed some downtime.. "

"Wait..she what...a walk alone..and we've been facing trolls?" He looked to Bunny. "You let her go alone? It's too dangerous."

He stood and looked at Bunny as she seemed so nonchalant about her younger sister roaming around with no protection. His first instinct was to give her a lecture about letting Hotaru go especially alone, but decided a fight wouldn't be the best thing right now.

"She might have, but not alone. Not with Trolls in the area. You know what they could do to a young giril like her. Bunny which direction did she head off to?"

They head down to the lake, getting there before Hotaru and starting to fish. So when she arrives she doesn't go to the same spot. ^_^

Levaste strarts out by casting a few spells to bring the fish up to shore, showing Tamra how to do they spells as well. They continue to fish this way for some time, bringing in quite a few. As Hotaru slips into the water Levaste notices her sink below the surface, his attention drawn away.

T: "You ok Staveel?"

He looks back to Tamra and smiles.

L: "Yeah, just saw Hotaru slip into the lake a ways down, she must have escaped from Bunny's clutches."

- Bunny glanced at Logan and shook her head -

Bunny: "Hotaru is... how do I explain this... she is not someone you have to worry about getting hurt... "

- She took in a deep breath.... pushing aside some dirt with the edge of her toes.. -

Bunny: "She has a special power she isn't aware of, and it prevents trolls and goblins of getting within a 1 km radius of her... she has a energy that will keep things like wild animals at bay, she has been that way since a child... "

- Her eyes finally met Logan's -

Bunny: "She will be fine. "

~

- Hotaru swam down to the bottom of the lake, her nimble body flowing easily in the cold night water.. -

He grunted, and dropped his hands, leaning back and looking at Bunny oddly. He gave a chuckle, and shook his head. "At yet, here I could have killed her at any time. Or Logan there, for that matter. Warding off goblins and trolls isn't everything. There are more dangers than just wild, stupid creatures."

He lifted a hand up, motioning into the night. "What if she tripped and hit her head? Got knocked out and we couldn't find her? What if we went looking for her and when she awoke she couldn't find us and tried to go on by herself?"

He dropped his hand, and his head moved down, leaning against his chest. He sighed, and laid down on his side, his eyes slowly closing.

He looked to Bunny and hesitated as his eyes met hers. "She doesn't know of this? Well it would explain why those trolls seemed like they had hit a wall."

He couldn't believe that Bunny and Hotaru were sisters, they were so different. Hotaru was shy and innocent and Bunny was...well Bunny was very much the opposite.

She reminded him of so many of the girls from his village. Very forward, too much so for his liking. All they wanted was a romp in the hay and to hopefully catch a man to marry.

He wanted that but in time. Not immediately, he wanted to make his mother proud and settle down and raise a family. He knew he wasn't ready, but he knew he was young still and had plenty of time.

He looked to Bunny once more. "Well she may be protected by magic but she still shouldn't be alone out there. Which way did she head off to?"

- Bunny looked at Zarl and sighed -

Bunny: "Males worry too much, you act like Hotaru is some damsel in distress or something... the chances of something happening to her are slim to none.... "

- She shrugged and laid her head on Zarl's lower torso, looking at the stars for that moment before she pointed towards the direction Hotaru went.. -

Bunny: "She went that way... "

~

- Hotaru eased to the surface, letting out a gasp as she sucked in a deep breath of cool night air... she swam to the surface and laid out her towel, easing onto it as she closed her eyes and listened to the sounds of the night.. -
