Somehow, I don't think calling out mods with a specific thread questioning a decision has anything more than a .000001 percent chance of success. While I agree with the sentiment, this is no more than another venting outlet

*pulls my shirt over my head and vents*

Yes from me!!!!

Surely the Mods or whoever pressed the hide button sited the alleged offending posts ? Would it not simply have been prudent to simply remove those items.

Seen it heaps on many thread 'post edited by mods' or did they simply respond to a whining minority of one?

Dear mods, please bring back DR Liz threads. I hate to play this card, but you know or not that I m having F*** breast cancer, so I need my doctor Liz. So pretty please. Thank YOU.

I'll even be her nurse.
I can do all her prep work.
Finally, my life as an RN has meaning.

My initial thought was the same as yours. I don't believe even in principle that Mods should be subject to democratic accountability. The reality is that Mods have a tough and thankless task to perform, and I believe that they need the discretion to have the final say on any decisions that they need to take in the interests of the smooth running of the site. Playing Devil's Advocate for a moment, I guess it's possible in the extreme case that the whole site could be shut down if the Mods were to fail to take action over reported copyright violations.

Having said all that, though, I think there's still value in having some kind of thermometer gauge to show the heat of feeling around the value of the thread in question, and the apparent vindictive motivation behind the report to the Mods. I wonder whether there might be any potential copyright violations in the threads started by the person who did the reporting?
.

Yeah, it bears repeating that this is no First Amendment issue. This is a private entity that can place whatever limits it wants, right or wrong

I wonder how many MUSIC company royalties Lit owes, allowing all the downloads to be published day after day !

Technically speaking, there are violations all over the place, so, that possibility is ...good (I was going to say high, but there are a lot of things Laurel allows because of subtleties of law (that sometimes even I don't understand)).

Technically speaking again, there is the whole "fair use" concept.

Technically speaking again, written lyrics aren't copyrighted, and only then if you try to put your name, or anyone else's name as the creator of said lyrics.

There again, the whole concept of posting a link to an image (or song), opposed to posting the image is something that is allowed because it doesn't take away from anyone's rights of ownership.

Excerpts from many long conversations discussing "unfairness" with Laurel (why some things are taken out, while others aren't). Fading memory can't validate that 100% of what I've stated is accurately repeated from Laurel, but it should be the gist.

Not sure where you heard that lyrics aren't copyrighted, but they most certainly are. They just need to be written down, and they belong to you.

Songs are copyrighted, but songs contain lyrics.

Actually, this is something that I got from another website where a lawyer weighed in on the discussion (he worked at the website and his copyright law credentials were validated).

It's a subtlety that is contestable, but seemed reasonable to me. What he essentially said was "Lyrics are an excerpt from the song, excerpts of copyrighted material are permitted under "fair use." Therefore, lyrics posted don't infringe on copyrighted material."

Of course, anything can be contested and that's why there are lawyers (for and against), but there are precedents too, which is what the lawyer I've referenced, was citing.

You know I read her threads and for the life of me I can not see what she said or posted or anything that would have made the Admins shut them down. It sounds like someone didn't like her and wanted her gone. Sometimes I am very disappointed in the way people act on here. It is almost like we are back in Jr. High dealing with jealousy and mean girls (or guys). If you do not like someone's thread.. don't go there... plain and simple. Let's all start acting like adults and not pre-teens. I thought her advice thread was very creative, funny, sexy and helpful. So someone needs to pull up their big girl panties and get over it and the Admins need to do the right thing and put the threads back.

Apparently people were posting images with URLs on them. I'm not really sure why that's a violation since it's giving credit to the source website which is what copyright laws require. But it's a violation here for some reason and apparently somebody was reporting them. And for an unknown reason, contrary to practices by other Mods, the thread was moved instead of editing the posts that contained the images.

So, I offered to go in and clean up those posts so the thread could be restored. I've had no response to that offer.

When one of my threads was deleted, I contacted the mod to find out why. I was told someone complained about the url violations and that I, as the person who started the thread, was responsible for 'policing' the thread and making sure any pictures containing url's or copyright information were removed or a link provided. Personally I find it rather pitiful that an adult doesn't have anything better to do with their time but complain about something on a thread. :(

I vote hell yes...bring Liz back.
