1840

Claire Fitzgerald sat alone in Crompton Manor, a fine, if somewhat neglected estate, which had been in her mother's family for years. She was lucky to be there. The estate where she had been raised, Talbot Grove, the family seat of the Fitzgeralds for generations, was gone. She had been given one week to vacate, taking with her only her personal possessions.

Her father's untimely death had left the family fortunes in the hands of her brother David who had been more interested in a good time than anything else. Not satisfied at having gambled away the family's estate, he had, if rumour was to be believed, swindled a good number of people out of a sizeable amount of money, before leaving London for an undisclosed destination. And given what she knew of her dissolute brother, Claire had no reason to disbelieve the rumours.

Had it not been for the tidy sum she had inherited from her maternal grandmother, Claire might have found herself in the poorhouse. Several of David's creditors had suggested that she might make good on his debts, but she had to think of herself. It would be difficult to make a good marriage, given the scandal, but the at least the nest egg her Grandmother had left her would be of some attraction. Still, she didn't want to have to marry just anyone, and certainly not someone who would sieze control, take the money, and leave her dependant on his whim. She would need to be careful.

First, of course, she needed to get a staff, having fled the family home, with only two servants, one a groom, and the other a personal maid, who had disappeared the night before. Claire had managed to light a fire in the small sitting room, and another in her bedroom, but she was unsettled in the unfamiliar house, spooked at being alone, and feeling vulnerable.

It could be dangerous for a woman alone, and she knew that men looked at her, she had seen it often enough with David house parties, when she tried her best to stay out of sight. She was pretty, with long, dark hair, and a petite build, save for the breasts that strained her bodice. At 20, she ought to have been married, but her father's death cut short her debut season, and David had been too self absorbed, and she had made a point of not mentioning anything to him, lest he offer her in marriage to settle some debt or other of his.

Yes, things would work out for the best. She just needed some time to get organised, and once she had a small staff in place, she would be so unsettled by the house, with every creak making her jump.

James Wilson stood at the door of the new home of Claire Fitzgerald, the daughter of a dead man who had never repaid his debt to his family, then man who betrayed his family, the man who made them nothing more then paupers.

The father of Claire had been a good friend of his father's and they used to travel together, go to the races together, and join each other for meals on a regular basis. They were as close as brothers and rumor had it they were actually distant cousins and lovers, but both were unfounded and were only mentioned in whispers, never reaching the ears of either family.

One day Claire's father came to James' family estate in Glastonbury having rode out of London a few days before, to everyone on the outside it was a friendly meeting between people who are closer then brothers, but to James who had heard part of their conversation, it was a meeting of a desperate man and his last resort. Claire's father was begging for money to pay off debtors after his family's fortune.

James' father paid off the debt in exchange for repayment in the following year, having spent most of the Wilson family fortune. The following year when James' dad left for London on the day designated to be the day that his family finally get paid back for their generosity and return to having fancy parties and living the life of luxury he was killed by robbers who stopped his coach and took every thing inside it, including the rest of the family fortune which he was taking to the bank in order to keep it safe.

As soon as word reached James he rode to Crompton Manor and gained an audience with the head of the family and demanded repayment on the debt owed by the Fitzgerald family. He was immediately evicted only catching a glimpse of the beauty known as Claire. He rode to those who owe him, finding each and every family either broke or dead.

Having dropped to a new low James returned home, only to find one of the robbers who instantly recognized him and held him up, hopping that he could get more money out of the Wilson family, money they did not have. Having told him that the robber laughs and leaves. On his return home James looked for his mother, finding her laying in her bed with a bullet in her head and a note with the seal of the Fitzgerald family.

On that day he swore revenge, plotting the theft of their money and their daughter.

Returning to the task at hand James picks the lock to Claire's new home and slips inside silently shutting it, walking through the empty house he looks around until he sees a light coming from under one of the door. He opens it, letting out a loud creaking sound, before slamming it. "I have come to collect on your debts" he announces loudly as he walks towards her and smiles.

She froze, listening hard. Was that a floorboard in the hall creaking??? After a moment she relaxed, and chastised herself for being so jumpy. Only a moment later, though, the sitting room door creaked as it opened, and a large male form filled the door.

"I have come to collect on your debts"

Terror rooted her to the spot. Her heart rate soared, and she couldn't breathe. She looked at the man, somewhat older than her, but still young and viril. She stared, still unable to make sound come from her mouth. He looked vaguely familiar, but she was unable to place him.

"D...debts??"

He must be connected with her brother, she thought. Perhaps this was some deranged creditor???

"David? Does David owe you money??? Well I'm sorry, and if its any consolation, she has ruined our family, and I myself would be homeless if it hadn't been for my own inheritance, but I am not my brother's keeper. And I am not responsible for his debts. You will need to speak with him"

If you can find him! But she added this bit silently.

"I assure you, with the exception of my brother, my family is respectable. My father was highly thought of. Now, I shall ask you to show yourself out!!"

She was pleased that her voice didn't betray her terror, and she hoped that her firm tone would suffice. His voice was that of a gentleman, and she hoped his behaviour would prove gentlemanly.

James lets out a little laugh at the thought of coming after this wench over some debts her money ignorant brother had racked up over the years since the passing of their villainous father. As he let out the short laugh he walked towards another chair in the room and sat down in front of her.

"I come not for your brothers debt, but for your fathers debt. He owes the Wilson family several thousand pounds, and seeing as he has died that debt falls upon the richest member of his family. I either can get it in money, or you can give me your body in payment " He says as he looks her dead in the eye, the fire of hatred burning as hot as the fireplace "you have thirty seconds to decide before I rape you and then turn you into my slave".

H then gets up and walks towards Claire's chair and stands just inches from her counting down. 30...29...28...27...26...

His words hardly made sense to her. It couldn't be her father to whom he referred!

"Sir, you must be mistaken! My father, Edward Fitzgerald was a gentleman, highly thought of by all. He treated his tenants well, and I assure you he did not owe monies to anyone. He was not a gambler.... well, aside from the usual wagers at cards and the like. You are mistaken, you must be mistaken!!!"

Her voice had gone up an octave, as panic warred with disbelief that this was happening.

He was counting, and he had demanded she make good on his so called debt!!
She could pay it... just about, but she refused to believe that he was in earnest! If she could only show him the error of his ways, perhaps......

Her thoughts trailed off as he counted downward.

"No.... wait, I don't have much money, but Sir, you cannot really mean to...... I know from your voice you are a gentleman, and you wont really... interfere with me in any way"

She was upset that it sounded more a question than a statement. Still, she couldn't allow him to simply take her money, it was all that stood between her and poverty. Despite being educated, thanks to her brother's behaviour, she would not get a position as a governess, and her figure would not do her any favours in getting a position as either a governess or a companion either...... and that really left only one other course of action for a woman - one she didn't want to contemplate. No, she had to talk her way out of this.

She smiled, a shaky smile, and tried again to reason with him.

"Look, I have a number of footmen here, I suggest you leave before I raise the alarm...."

James lets out a coarse laugh at the thought of her father, Edward Fitzgerald being an honorable man. The man who had his family killed, his fortune stolen, and most of all, the man who wrecked his future. Someone who is capable of any of these acts is far from honorable in his eyes.

The expression on his face darkened, as he slowly brought his face even closer to hers.

"You don't have much money?" James scoffs as he looks around at the grand house around him "the peasants who steal bread, the poor bastards in debtors prison, the men who work the forges, the women who have to beg for money in order to feed their babies. They do not have money you wench,".

Then he leans forwards and steals a rather rough kiss from her lips, if only to prove her wrong about not interfering with her. "I have nothing to lose at this point" He growls "your father took it all from me, my family, my status, and my wealth. So give me a fucking answer, you either can pay it off, or work it off with your body".

He then walks over back to his chair and sits down and flicks his wrist, wordlessly daring her to call the guards, if they were there, he would never have gotten in to her home to begin with. From what he had seen over the past few days of watching her, she had only one servant, and she had already left for the night.

"10...9...8...6...5" He says slowly as he resumes the countdown "4...3...2...".

Claire sucked in a breath. He was suggesting that her father was less than honorable!! Bad enough that her brother had shamed the family, how could someone suggest that her father had done................ It didn't bear thinking about!!! She was gulping in air, fighting shock.

He was counting down, demanding a decision of her, but she felt like her brain had shut down. He was giving her an impossible choice! Handing over her money, or paying the perceived debt with her body!!

"You Sir are no gentleman!!!!"

It was superfluous, saying that, but she couldn't help it. She stood, wringing her hands in front of her, hoping.... hoping for sudden inspiration. Inspiration that didn't come as she listened to the surreal voice counting indefatigably downward, demanding a decision she couldn't make.

"W...wait! Please!! I c.. can't think!!"

She was hoping to buy time, her mind racing, desperately hoping that someone would burst in, but she was alone, she knew it, and so did he. Still...... futile or not, she couldn't stop it.

"HELP!!!! Someone, help me, please!!!!"

"...1" James says with a sly grin ignoring her pleas for help, the likelihood of someone hearing her please for helps were next to none. The design of the house, from what he had heard did not really allow for the movement of sound waves due to a stone frame and stone walls.

Standing back up, feeling a little faint from the blood rushing out of his head to the rest of his body, stumbling with the first step he catches himself and sees the scar on the back of his left hand, the scar he had received from the robber who had held him up in the woods and killed his father.

James makes a grab at Claire's hair in order to pull her up and take her, the only thing in his mind was that after so many years he would finally get his revenge, he would finally get to use the woman who had been in his mind since that day.

(sorry for the short post)

Claire was dumbfounded, she felt numb. She had been frantically racking her brain, trying desperately to come up with an escape, with a ruse that would get him out of her house.

There was no question of overpowering him, she had thought of that and dismissed it almost instantaneously. Threats, pleas, none would work. This man felt her family had wronged him, and he meant to have his vengeance. That, she realised with a hollow feeling to the pit of her stomach, meant her. She would be the instrument of his vengeance against her family.

Her heart was thundering in her chest when he stood, and counted down to one, and she began to back away from him, her head shaking in denial. She wanted to voice denial too, but her mouth was so dry, no words would come out.

Suddenly he grabbed for her, and despite the suddenness of the movement, she watched it as though in slow motion, feeling the sting to her scalp as he grabbed her hair, pulling her to stand to her full height. She hadn't realised that she had been crouching. Then she felt it, the wall at her back, and with his big presence immediately before her, she knew herself to be trapped and helpless. She felt tears swell and brim on her lower lids, before spilling over, and cascading down her cheeks.

As James presses her into the wall and gives her another rough kiss, his teeth nipping the bottom of her lip as he pulls away, his hand leaves her hair and starts to grope her, feeling her breasts as his tongue licks her face and tears.

"You are going to be a nice little tart for your master" He says to Claire as he pulls her off of the wall and pushes her towards the fire, in an attempt that only her clothes would catch and she would have enough sense to strip out of her clothes. The idea of her clothes being burnt from her body was one that was burned into his vengeance driven brain. The fire in his eyes and the lust for what was rightfully his had never burned hotter or brighter, it would soon consume him completely .

Images of what was yet to some flashed through his mind, the image of her nude body below sucking his member until his seed covered her face. Feeling his cock grow hard in his pants he starts to pull them off saying "we still can avoid this if you are willing to pay the money your father owed my family, along with the interest, which by now has brought the amount up to about 10,000 pounds and this house". With a sly smile he walks towards her, his hard cock visible for her to see. "You have three seconds to decide 3...2...1..." he says in a tone that would send shivers down the spine of the most hardened warrior.

Claire's lips felt swollen and bruised from the force of his kiss, less passionate than forceful. Stunned, she touched her fingers to her lips, as she struggled to get a grip on herself emotionally. Would he rape her? Was that his intent??? She swallowed hard, but was shocked at his next comment.

"You are going to be a nice little tart for your master"

"T..tart???!! How dare you?!!!!!"

Fury infused her, and she pushed hard against his chest, putting all her strength behind it. She brought her knee up sharply, intending to unman him, but she was hampered by her dress and petticoats, which tempered the force of the blow. Frustrated, she screamed, calling him every foul name she could think of.

He mentioned the money again, but she didn't have it to hand, and she knew instinctively that he would not leave and return when she had. No, she had to fight him, here and now, and she would not go down with out a fight. Grabbing a vase from the sideboard, she hurled it across the room, missing him by just an inch. She groped blindly, her fingers closing around an empty christal goblet and she drew back her hand, and flung it at him with all her might.
