Rich Bits and Bobs

This particularly for lovely Sister Jenny.
We discussed sax, not sex, yes sax, on this fine record by Lulu and David Bowie, TOPs, 1974.

Please listen to this, if you have the time. It is so beautiful, and fascinating in musical history. This a 1962 album track from The Journeymen, song written, and first recorded by country/folk Merle Travis in 1946. The song is about coal mining, but I feel it can also be a metaphor for being "down" in any sense.
The group were, Dick Weissman, John Phillips and Scott Mckenzie. All in their way to become major figures in music. Superb lead vocals by Scott.
In 1964 the group split up, and John Phillips formed the The New Jouneymen, which settled down as himself, Denny Doherty and Michelle Phillips.
In 1965 Cass Elliott joined, and the name changed to The Mamas and The Papas. The music changed too, but retained a folk influence.
