Co-Founder of the Cars dead at 75.

the Cars first record is one of the best records ever made.

And he produced (among other things) the first Weezer record.

Ric Ocasek, frontman of the popular late 1970s and 1980s band the Cars, was found dead in his New York home on Sunday. He was 75.

They actually separated in 2018 after 28 years of marriage

I would not have guessed he was 75. That would have made him about 33 when the first album came out.

Like so many before him, he had to leave Ohio to make it big, which will not surprise anyone who listened to rock radio in Ohio back in the day.

Saturday night's performance marked The Cars first concert in roughly
seven years. The band opened with "My Best Friend's Girl." The song
wasn't perfect, as Ocasek and company sounded a bit rusty. But there
was a mystifying nostalgia factor to the entire set.

Ocasek then reminisced about his days living in Cleveland:
"It was actually the first place I ever played music in front of people."

A looooooooong time ago in either the late '80s or early '90s, back when I was going to art school here, one of our department buildings was located nearby Gramercy Park where he and his then wife Paulina lived. And one day a group of us who were in the same class were walking there on 2nd Ave. and we saw him getting into a cab with Paulina. He was tall with a distinctive look, no way you could miss him.

Those pre-internet days, seeing celebs casually out of the blue like that meant something. But not just any ol' celeb, it has to be someone you like. And if it was a musician you jammed to as a kid? Made your day. Never forgot that.

Nice to see some LIT love for a great man.

A buddy of mine worked a a few records with Ric, including the Weezer blue record. He said he was one of the sweetest, nicest people he's ever worked for.

His daughter-in-law had, and perhaps even still has (I think it might have moved to a neighborhood with cheaper rents), an art gallery here in town which he basically bankrolled himself.

I saw The Cars on the Shake It Up tour with Rockpile as the opening act (I don't know that Rockpile even ever toured the U.S. under that name aside from that). Good show, thought not surprisingly light on banter and showmanship. At the time. I would never have guessed that they would take to videos as they ended up doing.

I never saw them, but had always heard there wasn't much "show" in their shows. Great playing, and songs were all they were concerned with.
