Rising Ambitions

Kas looked up smiling at her friend, placing a hand upon her face, it was the first time she has seen a facial expression of true concern. She held Aimee’s chin keeping her in place while she gazed into her eyes. A warmth flowed from the pit of her stomach to the tip of her fingers that held the face of a wonderful human.

“I’m fine Aimee thanks to you.” She released the mage’s chin and slowly pushed herself up, Did you say Dragon?” her mind cleared now that she was sitting up. She rubbed her temples and replayed what Aimee asked her, “You did say Dragon! No I didn’t hear any dragon.” She reached over to Aimee indicating that she wanted them both to rise to their feet.

She swayed for a moment before her muscles recalibrated her position. She looked outside staring at the unnatural snowfall, the cold only beaten back by Aimee’s fire, “There is a great danger out there Aimee, and it’s not just a Dragon, I can sense the unbalance. Don’t ask me how but I do. She walked toward the opening of the cave, it’s beckoning for me. She continued to walk as if she was a puppet guided by strings. “Aimee can you not hear the song?” She spoke over her shoulder as she walked out into the cold..

Aimee blushed, an embarrassed, light laugh as she rubbed the back of her neck. "It wasn't-um."

Dragon, right. "It was huge! I hope everyone in the village, the college is alright..." Aimee worried, grasping Kas' arm to help her up, gently adjusting the demoness' right sleeve.

"What? What is out there?" Aimee worried, her eyes settling on the simple ward at the entrance. Her expression tensed as Kas began to walk into the cold, the cloak slipping from her shoulders. "Kas, you'll freeze out there!" She admonished, picking up the cloak with a frown-before the song was mentioned.

"Song?" Her mind flashed on stories of sirens drawing sailors to rocks.

"Kas, wait!" She hurried after, bursting past the ward only to be bombarded by snow and wind, her short hair blown every which way. She hurried to catch up, an arm around her friend's waist. "Stop, where are you going?!"

Kas didn’t flinch when Aimee put her arm around her waist; instead, she kept walking against the wind slowly. Her eyes dull and lifeless, staring at the tip of a large mountain,” We must go Aimee don’t you hear them calling? We have to go there. “She turned and looked at Aimee, “Come with me, He is calling. “ She repeated her statement. She shook her head when Aimee asked where she was going. “Aimee I’m going where he is telling me to go.” She pointed to the tip of the high mountain.

Kas’s head tilted backwards as if something grabbed her hair and pulled it backwards. She backed away from Aimee’s grip and turned back toward the mountain. Her skin starting to turn to a light blue from the deadly cold The wind was unnaturally cold, and the extreme heavy snow seemed unnatural as well.

“Come Aimee he is waiting for us.” She replied now adding that Aimee was being called as well. “We must go before he gets to angered with us.. Her gaze drifted over to Aimee. “He is getting angry with us. We have to go.” she pulled away once more and began walking toward the mountain. Her skin now almost to a purple. Her walking was becoming staggers.
