Humanity never really paid attention to the warnings. Sure they understood the basics, but their view of things has always been painfully limited. The greatest kindness ever afforded humanity may have been the inability of them to understand all the different parts of their brain, but it was also the greatest weakness. They never saw it coming.
No meteors, solar flares, or second big bang. There was a tidal wave, a huge tsunami as the great city of R'lyeh rose again. The wall of water would turn out to be one of the least horrifying things to come from it. The Elder Gods had woken from their slumber and our petty civilization crumbled. Humans now either ran and hid, or lost their minds to serve the Elder Gods. Creatures, beyond just the Great ones, now roamed the Earth. Previously reserved form only the darkest corners of the Earth, now they could be free.
Now they could feel, could live.
