Rounding the Bases (Closed)

"I understand about being across school. But as I said, being late for my practices are a huge pet peeve of mind. That carried over from coaches I've had in the past. I'm sorry if you think I came down hard on you but it would have been the same with any of the other girls."

He smiled when she said he looked too young. "Well, I'm 26 and fresh out of college. I chose to teach math because that was always my best subject."

He leaned back in his chair. "What about you though? How are your grades? And why did you choose to pick up softball?"

26... Only 8 years older than herself... She needed to stop thinking like that though. It wasnt right. He was her teacher and coach. She could think he was sexy but that was far as it could go.

"I get straight A's. I'm in advanced placement classes and the lowest test score I've gotten all year was an 86." She smiled at him. "I have played softball since I was a kid. It's always been second nature to me.." She shrugged.

"I know I'm ok at it and I enjoy it. I'm trying to get a scholarship to save my dad some money on college."

He listened as she told him about her grades and background in playing. "Well, I must say. I'm impressed. Not too many students hold a straight A average along with taking AP classes. Good for you."

He messed with some papers and drew out a booklet from the college he went to. "I'm not sure where you've thought about going but this here is the school I went to. They have a top notch sports department and from my time there, I know a few people. I may be able to help you get in if you decide it's what you want."

Payton leaned over to take the booklet from him which caused her breasts to strain against the athletic shirt she had on. She didn't even notice as she looked over the booklet in her hands.

"I actually thought about this place" she said nodding towards it. "I heard they have a really good softball team and a really good sports therapy program which is what I wanna do..." She smiled at him. "I wanna work with sports somehow after I graduate that's for sure..." She hesitated.

"I would definitely need a scholarship for here though. My dad is a single dad of two, and always has been. He can't afford this place." She frowned. "Scouts never really come around here though, we are such a small school".

As she leaned forward for the booklet, his eyes dropped down to tightness of her shirt. Then he realized what he was doing and worked his eyes back up to her face. 'Damn she's a good looking girl. Only if she wasn't a student and him a teacher. That could end bad for both of them.' he thought to himself.

"It's good that you already have in mind what you want to do. A lot of people never decide until they are close to finishing."

"And about the scouts and scholarships....you don't worry about those right now. You show me you're a steady talent throughout most of the season and there will be scouts looking at you. I give you my word."

Her eyes lit up and she grinned at him. She didn't know what sort of tricks he had up his sleeves but she believed him when he said scouts would see her. "You have nothing to worry about from me, coach. Ill be the best player you will ever have".

Her cell phone chirped in her pocket and she glanced down, not wanting to answer but curious if the "meeting" was over.

"Oh and by the way.., practice was great today " she told drew. "I don't remember ever having such a thorough practice. It was a nice change of pace. The old coach didn't really care. We would hit a few and then leave. That was it... I think we are gonna go far with you as our coach".

"Yes Payton, I'm sure you will be the best." He let the comment hang in the air. It could be taken a few different ways and he meant all of them. He heard her phone chirp and saw her head drop. "You can check that if you need to. This isn't anything formal that you'll get in trouble for. Just a casual chat."

He smiled at her enjoying the practice. "I'm glad you did. I hope the other girls did as well. Nothing for me is half ass. I give all or nothing and expect the same in return. And yes, we're going to go far. I'm expecting a championship in my first year."

Payton glanced at the text and dismissed it. It wasnt important. Just one of the guys from her class asking if she wanted to hang out. She didn't.

"Katie and Maggie are two of our most promising pitchers from previous seasons. Maggie is also a good clutch hitter. Sienna is reliable and almost always gets at least one or two hits per game. Oh and Fiona is a great slugger too. She had only five less home runs than I did last season". Payton launched into the speech without thought and then grimaced.

"Sorry... You probably already knew all of that. It's just I've been on Bardot since my sophomore year so I really feel like I know the girls on the team. We mesh well".

Andrew held up his hand to her then lowered it back down to his desk. "There's no need to apologize. Yes I knew some but it helps to have someone by my side that already knows the ins and outs of the team. It will help to come up with a better game plan once I get to take a look at the schedule."

He stopped and leaned back looking at her and a slight smile came upon his face. "Plus, what good is a team captain if she doesn't know all of her players strengths and weaknesses?"

Payton smiled at first but then what he said sank in. Team captain.

"You're making ME team captain?! For real?!?!" Her voice rose a bit in pitch and she began to beam. "Holy shi... Uh... That's freaking awesome!" She had jumped up from her chair and was grinning from ear to ear.

She flashed him that same grin- but this time it had a little playfulness to it- and said "Wise choice on your part coach". The grin let him know she was just joking, not being conceited, and we face was aglow with happiness as she looked at him.

He laughed a little as she jumped up from her chair. Clearly over excited. "Well of course I'm making you team captain. As I said, you know the team and the girls. There's no one better suited that I can think of." Then he leaned up and rested his arms on the desk. "Unless you don't want it?"

"And as long as your comfortable with it, we should probably meet at least a couple times a week to discuss strategies and everything going on. Maybe after practice. I just don't want to keep you from other plans you may have."

Payton smiled at him and thought to herself she would make time anytime of day for a man as good looking and talented as him. "I'm free after practices. As long as I can keep up on my homework, im good. I don't do much besides softball and schoolwork". She shrugged.

"Everyone else always asks why I don't go to the parties but I just don't really feel like it usually."

"You're only 26. You must have a pretty active personal life. How do balance it with work and coaching? Or how did you balance schoolwork and baseball in college? In have all of the invites to the parties but I never have time. It stinks".

"After practices will be fine and of course regarding your work. I would never let sports or anything else interfere with your schoolwork. After all, if you don't maintain good grades, then you don't play. Isn't that the way the rules go?"

He sat back in his chair and took a drink from the water bottle sitting on the edge. "An active personal life? No not anymore. Even if you could have called it active then. Just as you, my life was primarily centered around playing ball and finishing my work. Everything else fell to the wayside once I wasn't able to.....well, nevermind."

He stood up from his chair and walked around and sat on the edge of his desk and looked at her. "Balancing work and play is never easy. Yes it does stink, as you put it and yes, you have to miss out on parties and such. But, as far as I was concerned, I had to make a decision. What was more important? Partying with my buddies? Or ensuring my work was kept up so I could stay on the team? I chose the latter. What you decide to choose is entirely up to you. No one can make that decision for you."

Payton nodded in understanding at his words. He was right. What was more important? School and a future? Or partying? It wasn't like she didn't have friends. She had a lot of those. She just didn't do all of the stupid things that they did.

"Yeah I know you're right..." she said. "Sorry, that got us way off topic. You don't care about my personal life.

She had caught the start of that sentence- "once I wasn't able to..."

This only served to make her more curious than she had been before. She was determined to figure out why no longer played baseball. She wouldn't ask him yet, but soon...

"I guess I need to get ready and go" she said and that glanced into his gorgeous eyes. "If we're done, I mean?" She didn't want to overstep her boundaries and piss him off again, especially after he had just asked her to be team captain.

He was glad she was agreeing with him. A lot of athletes fall out of sports because they get too caught up in whatever else their friends are doing. "It's fine to get off topic every now and then. And we can talk about whatever you like, even if it is your personal life. You don't always have to think of me as your coach. I can be your go to when you need to get something off your chest as well."

She mentioned having to leave and he stood from sitting on his desk. "That's fine if you need to. We can talk more later." She stood and he walked her to the door and opened it for her. As she was walking through, his arm dropped from the handle and his fingers brushed across her hip. "So see you tomorrow huh?"

When his fingers brushed her hip, Payton thought it must have been an accident. Yet her body still reacted. She got what felt like a trillion butterflies in her stomach, fluttering all around, and she actually trembled slightly.

She was by no means a virgin. But that innocent touch was more erotic than any experience she had ever had. And she had no idea why. She paused and looked into his eyes briefly before actually blushing a bit.

"Yes sir.." She said, falling back to what they had called their old coach. "I usually come an hour and a half early and use the gym before classes.

She smiled slightly and turned and walked to her truck parked in the athletics parking lot.

The whole way home she thought about Drew. In between homework assignments she thought about Drew. Laying in bed that night she thought about Drew.

The next morning when she woke up he immediately sprang to mid. With a groan she beat her head against the pillow. She needed to get it together. Maybe a good workout would fix whatever was up with her mind.

She quickly pulled on a pair of yoga style pants and an under armor tank top and headed to the school gym where she got on the treadmill and began to run.

He saw her face blush and he smiled. "The gym huh? Yeah it never hurts to do everything you can to stay in shape. Maybe we'll run into each other there sometime." He waved at her as she walked off and pushed his door shut. 'The gym? Like she really needs it' he thought. He went back to his desk to finish the papers he had been grading then headed home.

The next morning, he woke and his arm was killing him. He walked in the bathroom and flipped on the light. Oh great, its swollen. "From throwing four balls, you've got to be fucking kidding." He ran his hand down his arm and over the scars. Ever since that day, he hasn't been able to repeatedly throw a damn ball.

He figured he would go workout to get his mind off what happened. He dressed in running shorts and a tshirt and pulled the sports band up around his elbow and headed for the gym. He had completely forgotten about Payton saying she went there until he walked in an saw her.

He was coming up behind the treadmills and he noticed how her yoga pants hugged tight around her ass. 'Damn she's hot' he thought. He walked up and stepped up on the treadmill next to her.

"Good morning sunshine."

Payton was in a zone. She had already run five miles on the treadmill when suddenly someone spoke from beside her. Nobody else usually worked out there in the mornings so it startled her and she almost stumbled- especially when she saw who the voice was.

Quickly she turned down her iPod and smiled as she slowed down to a brisk walk.

"Good morning. You scared me" she said with s small smile. "I'm nebulae to anyone else being here in the mornings... How was the rest of your night?"

She wasnt just making polite small talk. She truly was interest. Drew seemed like a good guy to have as a coach, teacher or just to know in general. She knew gossip would still be spreading like wildfire about the new teacher- ya know. The gorgeous one with a body to die for.

This thought made Payton smile to herself and her cheeks tin slightly pink. She hoped Drew didn't notice an ask why..

Andrew sped up the treadmill until he was at a good steady pace. Then he turned his head and looked over at her with a smile. "I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to scare you." He looked around through the gym. "This is nice though being in here alone."

"My night?" He laughed. "My night was extremely uneventful. I stayed for a while after you left then went home and did absolutely nothing. How was yours?"

He grabbed his towel and wiped his face then looked back at her. "Say, you're looking a little flushed over there. You ok? I've got an extra bottle of water if you need it." He knew she was blushing. He had seen the way her eyes danced when she talked to him. He just wondered if she would admit it.

Payton glanced at Andrew and smiled. "I'm ok thanks. My night was the same really. I won't home and did homework til I fell asleep. Finals all week... You know we start our new classes next week... I got my schedule in my email yesterday."

She looked over at him again as she shut down the treadmill. "I've got you for math starting Monday. Seems we will be seeing an awful lot of each other this coming semester..." She hesitated. "Math isn't my best subject"' she admitted.

She would never admit it but she was pretty happy to be able to stare at this man in the front of the classroom each and every day. It seemed she had the luck of the draw in that department.

She took a drink of her own water bottle and wiped herself down with a small towel after a moment and slowed her breathing to normal after the run. She glanced at the clock.

"I guess I need to shower... I have a final in an hour. History." She rolled her eyes. Her eyes connected with his and she could swear she felt his gaze like a physical touch. "Um, see ya around today?" She asked before turning to head to the locker room.

"Finals. Yeah I miss those. Mmm hmmm." He winked at her. "Yeah I should be getting my rosters for the new classes sometime today." He heard her say she'll be in his class and he thought 'well at least I will have something nice to look at for an hour every day'.

"You're in my class huh? Haha. And you thought I was mean as a coach. Just wait." A big smile spread over his face. "Well, if you're not good in it, maybe we can find you a tutor somewhere."

He watched as she rubbed the towel over her face and arms then she mentioned the shower. 'Damn what he wouldn't give to see water running down her tight body' he thought. "Yeah ok, well good luck on your finals and you know where I'll be if you need anything."

He watched her walk around the corner and into the locker room. He thought about following her in but thought about the chance of someone coming in and catching him. He couldn't take a chance on losing his job like that. She would have to wait.

As Payton showered she wondered briefly if he was really as bad of a teacher as he said he was. She doubted it. Maybe strict but not mean. And maybe she thought a little bit about how sexy he had looked on his workout gear that morning... And maybe how he probably looked gorgeous naked. Every girls wet dream.

Groaning to hersel she hurriedly dressed in a pair of jeans and a hooded sweatshirt with their school mascot and softball written on it. She had to rush but she made it to her final on time and felt confident that she passed it with flying colors.

The rest of the day was a breeze and pretty mundane. She was looking forward to softball practice that afternoon and wondered if he would announce her as captain or wait a bit. She didn't know what his plans were. She hurriedly dressed in her practice uniform and hit the field- five minutes early to her pleasure.

She grinned as she walked up and saw Andrew. "'Made it!" She exclaimed happily.

Andrew's day went by fairly smoothly. Of course, there's always one or two that press his nerves but that's expected. At least finals kept them quiet. Finally, the last bell of the day rang. He gathered his papers and went to his office to change. He threw on a pair of running shorts and a tshirt and headed to the field.

A few girls were already gathering when he got there. Shortly after, Payton came running up. He turned and half smiled because he saw other girls coming up behind her. "Hi there. I see that."

Then all the girls came up together and his tone changed to coach. "Everybody knows the drill. Get your laps in."

Payton smiled at Andrew, her eyes twinkling as she did. Her feet began to pound the ground as she ran laps. She was severely attracted to him- she admitted that to herself. He was hot. And he wasnt as hardcore as e acted as a coach. When it came to sports he was serious but she had a feeling all of the tough guy persona was a front to a genuinely caring man.

Five laps later and she came to a stop near the dugout. She was the first done. She had been thinking seriously the entire time and that usually made her run faster without realizing it.

She was barely winded and walked over pnher bag to pull her gear out. "Gonna be trying to pull fast ones on me today coach?" She asked, unaware of his bad arm and the pain it was causing him that day. All of the girls finished laps and grabbed their gloves, heading to their respective positions. Two stayed in to hit balls for the i elders and Payton got behind home where she squatted down to let their pitcher Maggie throw for the batters.

She knew Andrew was behind her- she was hyper aware of his being around and she focused hard on doing the best she could do.

Again he watched the girls as they look their laps around the field, but his eyes kept drifting around and finding Payton. She lagged for a bit but then she caught a burst and left all of the other girls behind. 'Hmmm, I wonder what that's all about' he thought. He watched her as she came running up to where he was, the first to finish.

"Careful Jones, you don't wanna let your teammates you know you're better than they are." He chuckled a little then it settled into a smile and disappeared as the other girls came running up. "Nah, I'm not gonna be one you today. You did a pretty good job of proving what you've got yesterday and plus, my arms not feeling one hundred percent today."

As the girls spread out across the field, he made his way around and gave each of them drills to work on to better hone in their individual skills. Finally, he circled back around the field and moved up behind the plate to where Payton was. He squatted down behind her to gauge her reactions and to gain a better view of Maggie as she delivered the ball.

As he was squatting he touched her lower back just above the waist of her pants and slid his hand slowly up to the middle of her back.
