Princess Danielle Marcus, daughter of famed royalty, King Phillip Marcus, whose lineage went as far back as the 1700s, was really, a pain in the ass. And the thing was, she knew it. She knew how to push buttons of those around her to get what she wanted. But none of that showed outside of the palace.

Her father knew his daughter was perfect. She never bought any bad press to the royal name since her coming out party 2 years ago when she turned 16. The press had done a lot to get ANYTHING on her. But there was nothing. She didn't party. She didn't go out drinking.

And now at the age of 18, Danielle was bringing even more good to the family name. Many a man had his eye on her and yes, many tried to get to her, ask her out but she declined in public but in private. She would tempt any man that tried to seek her hand. And in the end, when the man broke down and gave in, Danielle backed off. Suddenly changing her mind.

It was all a game to her. She just wondered how much longer she could keep playing it...

Nicholas Phillips was a member of the royal guard. He was the youngest member of the elite corps....chosen for this duty because of his service in Special Forces. He had been a sniper, and he had worked as a spy, infiltrating a kidnapping ring that had targeted the king's daughter. She had never known about the attempt by foreigners to kidnap her and use her as a bargaining chip to gain a trade advantage with her father's country, and the king was determined to keep it that way. Nicholas was rewarded for his work by being made a member of the royal guard. He wasn't real happy about it. It was, for the most part, boring work. He liked it out where the action was, even if there wasn't much going on at the time.

The most action he got was following the Princess when she went out. He had been given that task more and more lately. His age was an advantage when the Princess went out, because he was able to fit in better in the crowd than the older guys in the guard. The older guys usually stayed on the outside while Nicholas remained close to the Princess, but not too close. He didn't want to show up in all of the pictures taken by the papparazzi.... that would blow his cover.

Nicholas, despite his assignment was not a big fan of the Princess. He would do whatever was necessary to protect her, but that did not mean that he liked her very much. He would protect her because that was his job. Nicholas did not like the way that the Princess treated the men... boys really.... that she associated with. She was using the fact that they were all clamoring over her because of her looks and her position, and then, once she drew them in, she would send them on their way...almost laughing at their attempt.

With a sigh Dani looked at herself in the mirror.

She had to look presentable at all times. It wasn't just because she was a princess, but because of who she was representing..her father.

And tonight would be a special gala for some dignitaries visiting. A few bringing their sons and daughters around Dani's age. And yes, of course her father wanting to meet them.

In all truths, she would have rather stayed in tonight or gone out shopping...or something.

Usually those sort of dinners were pretty boring but, she had to do it, smile through it all and pretend to be happy to be there...

Tonight, she wore a blue formal dress, a little risque but yet, still classy. It was from a wonderful designer and tonight would be the perfect time to wear it.

Nicholas especially hated working the formal state dinners. Of course, he had only worked a couple in his short tenure in the royal guards, but they were his least favorite assignment. All of the people there would be stuck up. They were all so full of themselves. The adults who brought their sons were hoping for a connection between their son and the Princess. If that happen they would be set for the rest of their lives. The adults who brought their daughters were just trying to show them off. Hoping that one of the young males there to impress the Princess would become infatuated with their daughter instead.

Nicholas dressed in a black tuxedo. He had to blend in as much as possible. He stood near the door and watched as everyone entered. His first task was to assess whether there were any threats. Once everyone was in he was to mingle and stay close to the Princess. As he moved around the crowd he made idle chat. His cover was that he was the son of a wealthy businessman and he was there in place of his father who was away on a business deal. He talked to some of the adults, but mostly he focused on their children. Talking to them gave him an idea of why they were there and it helped him to assess whether they or their parents were a threat to the Princess or any other members of the royal family.

The dinner went, as per usual. Nothing happened, all the guests complimented the chef on the meal.

All in all, same old, same old.

Dani was getting antsy. She was beyond bored but she did her best not to show it. As the night wore on, she made a few friends and was pulled away from the adults.

Of course, who was near but her assigned guard, Nicholas. She liked him to the point that she wasn't always in her face, he just sort of hung out and did his job. He never tried to impress Dani with any unnecessary conversations...no creepy looks...

"So, Danielle, a few of us are going out tonight..you want to come?"

"Uhh.. I..." she glanced over, looking for her guard, who was no less than 6 feet away, "I would," she said, lowering her voice, "but..." she glanced at Nicholas, hoping the others got what she was saying.

"So what? Just sneak away.." Franklin told her, eying her cleavage, "We won't be leaving until after 11 anyway...what do you say?"

Dani didn't need to think about it, she wanted some fun and at the moment, she didn't care how or who she had it with, "I'll do what I can but I can't promise anything."

The dinner was uneventful, but Nicholas knew that these were the type of events when you really had to be at your best. There were opportunities for distractions, but the wort thing was the boredom. Avoiding being lulled into a false sense of security was difficult, but extremely important.

Nicholas stood not far from the Princess but he didn't look right at her. He was confident that nobody would know he was her guard unless the
Princess told them. Nicholas watched people say goodbye to his charge. He focused on the younger ones. There was one guy that Nicholas was concerned about. Nicholas used his peripheral vision to keep an eye on the guy. He saw the guy saying something to the Princess, and he could also see the guy staring at her cleavage. Nicholas had a feeling something was up and that he would have to keep an eye on both of them.

**** An hour later ****

Dani was in her room at the hotel. It was more than a 2 hour drive back to the country where her home was and she was in no mood spending that time in the car with anyone, trying to fight sleep so she had chosen to get a hotel room.

She looked at herself in the mirror and wondered what she was wear was appropriate. It was short black dress, with a dangerously high slit up the right hip...the skirt of the dress resting just about her knees. Her long brown hair was pulled back into a make shift ponytail.

Her plan was to cover up with her hotel robe, sneak out the front when the guards changed shift and then from there, take the steps and sneak out of the back of the hotel where Ian would be waiting with a car.

Sure, simple as that.

The only thing to do was not to get caught.

Nicholas was certain that the Princess was up to something. There was no reason for her to stay at the hotel instead of going back to the royal estate. Instead of focusing on the Princess once she had returned to her room, Nicholas decided to focus on the guy he saw checking out her cleavage. Nicholas was certain that the other guards could control the hotel room. Nicholas followed the guy as he got into a limo. He followed the limo as it pulled around behind the hotel. Yep, Nicholas was right..... this guy thought he was slick.

Dani made it!

Slipping out of the robe, she opened the door to the back of the hotel and looked around before heading to the limo she knew was waiting for her.

Her heart was racing with both excitement and nervousness. Was she really doing this?

Of course she was...and she intended to have a good time. But the whole thing of it was not to get caught by the press, her security and of course, her father.

The window to the limo rolled down and she saw Miles, smiling at her and then opening the door, "Ready to go Princess?"

Nicholas decided he would let the Princess have a little fun, but he was not going to let her out of his sight. That meant that there was going to be a limit on the amount of fun she was going to have. He recorded the license number of the limo, and paid close attention to the route they took. When the Princess and the rest of the occupants got out of the limo, Nicholas went up to the driver, identified himself and told him that if he enjoyed breathing he would leave now and not come back. Then Nicholas followed the others into the building.....staying just far enough behind to not be seen.

Where had the time gone?

Dani couldn't believe she had been out, having the time of her young life and it was almost morning.. Good God, she scarcely remembered that she had some important function in the morning...less than 5 hours away...

Perhaps she could cancel it..?

"Hey baby...what are you thinking about?" Miles asked, holding a drink to her, "You're not supposed to think about anything but having fun, remember? Here...drink this."

Miles was really the charmer to most...but the devil to others... He had spiked the drink he was about to give to the princess with X...

Now, all she had to do was drink it and she was his to as he pleased..

Nicolas spent the entire night focusing on the guy. He knew the guy was going to try something. Nicholas just wasn't sure what. He wasn't sure if the guy was going to try to touch the Princess inappropriately, try to drug her, or something else. Nicholas was sure he was going to try something.

Then, Nicholas saw it. He watched the guy put something in a drink. Nicholas moved closer, and when the guy handed the drink to the Princess, Nicholas grabbed it from her. "He spiked it...probably with X." Nicholas turned to the guy and hit him in the throat...knocking him to the ground gasping for air. He grabbed the Princess by the arm and led her out to his car. Nicholas kept the drink. He was going to have it tested.
