rude comments AND a topic area question

Hey all -

What do you do with rude comments to your story?

I am all about free speech and opinions. I'm just wondering if you respond to them. I was brought up to "if you've got nothing nice to say...don't say anything at all." And constructive negative feedback - "needs polish" is fine. "This is trash" is not constructive. What's up with that?

On another note, I'd intended the story - "Rough Day at the Office" - to go into "toys/masturbation" but it was shifted into "Lesbian Sex." I am not an expert in lesbian sex (but really thought I'd focused on the toys). Does anyone have any comments/tips about that?

As a person confident in the worth of my stories - I don't really give much validity to rudeness on a personal note. I responded once in the early days, and really do not have time for anything that does not make me a better writer. Rudeness or bluntness I can handle if it is about my writing, but not me as a person. I respond now with a thank you for taking the time. As I believe any good writer should respond on a free forum.

Real criticism comes when you are good enough to deserve it, but don't expect "real" criticism from people who are here to masturbate and don't take it personally unless it is. ;)

Edit to add: as I have learned my lesson don't bother with those who are personal. Their whole point in being personal is to goad and upset you to respond. That's how they get off. ;)
