I really don't understand why these judges are on the court for life. What if one gets so old they don;t even know what time of day it is? It's crazy. Ten years would be a good number. At least it would lower the risk of people freaking out.

Well, the good thing about all those people getting really riled up about totally ridiculous and obviously made up smears against Kavanaugh is that it exposed them as a bunch of phony assholes. When much more credible accusations were leveled against Keith Ellison and the lt. governor of Virginia, the response from the same crowd was silence.

Their attempt to guilt the Republicans into swapping Scalia for Garland would be enough to justify a conservative for the Notitious RGB.

What they did to Kavenaugh and the comment to the Catholic judge about her "dogma" within justifies swapping RGB for not just a conservative, but Barrett.

Don't overlook the fact that for many (think that contingent which does not understand and thus hates the Electoral College), that they believe that somehow, somewhere, it is constitutionally mandated that the court must be balanced with one fairly reliable (meaning left-leaning) centrist justice and when a liberal leaves the court, it is the duty of the President and Senate to replace that justice with a liberal justice.

To those people, if that does not happen, it will be not only a constitutional crises, but an illegitimate court (just as GW Bush and Trump were/are illegitimate presidents because the popular vote was not given its proper weight as the one person, one vote "mandate of the Constitution").

I’d rather see RBG retire instead of dying on the bench. Either way, I hope Trump gets the chance to appoint her replacement, just to see the magnitude of hysteria it will cause on the Left. They’ve already used the BS smear story with Brett Kavanaugh so I highly doubt they would resort to the same tactic. Maybe Trump will appoint a female justice? That would cause an uproar and limit the Lefts options in trying to hold up the appointment.
