Okay, I'm coming out of lurking to post this.

I have tried Craigslist and Yahoo Personals with dismal to distressing results. I could write a thread just about the disasterous meetings the few times that a meeting seemed worthwhile .....

So, since this area proposes to be a Personals Section, I am throwing down the gauntlet.

I want/wish/dream of a cycling partner to share a tandem that for the last few years mostly collects dust. Due to the frame size of the rear (stoker) seat on the bike, my partner would at least have to have a 30 inseam (measured to the ground including heel height of the shoe). I believe that usual means a 5'6" frame or taller.

My partner would have to be female. Although I don't consider myself homophobic, the picture of a guy riding eighteen inches behind me when I am wearing one layer of Lycra on my own but is not a picture I would care to dwell on.
I actually had a gay man offer to stoke on the cycle when I placed an ad before, and just couldn't feel comfortable sharing a ride so intimately. I applogize ahead of time for the political incorrectness of my stand. But hey, what is this website if not politically incorrect? *S*

Although I yearn for a LTR (leading to marriage) with a cycling partner, I would be quite content to share rides with a good friend who enjoys getting out on bike as much as I do.

So you don't have to go back to my profile to get my stats, I am 57 yo, 6', 225#, brn/brn with most of my hair and a mustache. And to answer the unspoken question re my age, should the relationship ever get to that point, I still have no use for Viagra...... okay, now that that is over, let's proceed.

My favorite ride is about 22 miles; from my house down the Anerican River Trail to Old Sacramento and then meander back to the house on bicycle friendly streets. A stop to put on the feedbag at one of the downtown bistros is usually included ....
I also would like to get back into riding Saturdays with the local bike clubs and take in a metric century (63 miles) or two a summer with my partner (either on single bikes or with the tandem).

******For anyone traveling to Sacramento who rides, I enjoy being tourguide; and we would have fun cycling through the city. The American River Trail runs along the river from Old Sacramento to Folsom Lake (26 Miles). Almost every tourist thing is available by cycle. The town is really cycle friendly..... Guys, though, remember you will need to have your own bike (or there are several good rental companies in town).*********

Well, I have reread the post and corrected any typos I saw. If you have any questions or want to share a ride, reply here or send me a PM!!!!!

Hey Butch - WOW - wish CA and WI were just a little bit closer - I'd love to tandem with you.

I was all set to ride RAGBRAI this summer but my partner got hit by a car while riding his bike and ended up with a nice titanium rod in his right leg from knee to ankle. So, no ride for us. We weren't riding tandem though - were gonna ride recumbents.
Well, there is always next year.

That's a sweet looking ride you have though. Like I said, wish we were closer.

Secret Love

You are always welcome!

Should you find youself flying through, like on your way to Hawaii, arrange for a layover of a day or so ... the place is a cyclist's dream.

By the way, I 'retire' in two years (read still work but take more vacations) and RAGBRAI sounds like it might be fun. Wanna be my tourguide?

LOL - like on my way to Hawaii - oooohhh Butch you are soooo funny. ;)

This would have been my first RAGBRAI - supposed to have been almost totally flat. Just watch, next year they'll go south through the hills and try to kill everyone. I was really looking forward to meeting Lance this year too but I'm sure he'll ride again.

I'd love to be your tour guide - Iowa is my 'home' state so I'm pretty famliar with all the things to see and do. Of course, when you're riding you just see the ass of the guy ahead of you - which isn't always that bad.

SecretLove69

You never know; you just might find me catching a military hop out there.

Like in the Music Man,

'Oh, there's nothin' half way about the Iowa way to greet you...'

Is there a website for RAGBRAI?

Sure is RAGBRAI.org

And, now - be still my thumpin' heart.......you like The Music Man too???

The ass of the guy in front of you.

Precisely why I don't feel comfortable riding with a guy so close to me.

I still have the glutes of a much younger man, and would not want to worry about a man's attention that close to me. LOL

Music Man

I can quote the whole thing:

How can there be
Any sin in sin...cere?
Where is the good in good-bye?

Your depridations confuse me girl,
Puzzle and mistify>
Tell me, where is the well in farewell girl?

Sure as the stars shine above....
Aren't we sincerely in love/

Fall ... in in Love.....

Ohhhh the humanity.......a cyclist and can quote me Music Man lyrics.....
When did you say you'd be hitching a transport this direction?? ;) Air Guard base in Madison or just pop up to Volk and I'll pick you up there.

Sounds Wonderful!

I get out of school the middle of August ... and I need a vacation from the house!
I'll have to look up Volk and Madison ... come to think of it, I even have a friend who just returned from cycling Europe and has a bike case to for a single bike.....

Now ya got me all hummin tunes.......

All I want is a plain man; all i want is a modest man;
a quiet man, a gentle man, a straight forward and honest man
to sit with me in a cottage somewhere in the state of Iowa.
(read Wisconsin)
And I would like him to be more interested in me
than he is in himself.
And more interested in us than in me.
And if occasion'ly he'd ponder what make
Shakespeare and Beethoven great,
him I could love 'til I die. Him I could love 'til I die.
;)

Shirley Jones

I always had seen her in the Partrige Family. She was attractive there. But when I saw her in the movie version, well it made me wish I had known her then. In both the literal and biblical meanings......sigh

Remember?

Lida Rose I'm home again Rose
Without a sweetheart to my name.
Lida Rose how everyone knows
That I am hoping your the same?

So here is my love song,
Not fancy or fine,
Lida Rose, oh won't you be mine?

I always had a thing for Prof. Hill myself - I guess it was his ability to shovel the BS that impressed me.
And that little Winthrop was just too cute (but too young for me)

Dream of now
Dream of then
Dream of a love song
That might have been
Do I love you?
Oh yes, I love you
And I'll bravely tell you
But only when we dream again
Sweet and low
Sweet and low
How sweet that mem'ry
How long ago
Forever
Oh yes, forever
Will I ever tell you?
Oh no.

Well, maybe ;)

And now 'Winthrop' is bald

With just a little fringe around his ears....

Makes me look positively young in comparison.... LOL

LOL - this little thread you started about cycling has taken a sudden turn into a tribute to Meredith Wilson. :)

Sweet and Low

I always liked the Buffalo Bills
And as a first tenor in my youth, have always had a fondness for SPEBSQSA.
And although I am a baritone now, there are days I can almost sing along with the first tenor on the record.

Awww hair or the lack thereof doesn't have a thing to do with age and besides age is just a number not a life sentence. If I was as young as I act I'd be wearing diapers and if I was as old as I feel some days.....well, I guess I'd be wearing diapers. Hmmm either way I lose.

Ok - now this is just getting wild......I was a member of the local chapter of the Sweet Adelines for a long time....sung second tenor.
I love SPEBSQSA and one of the reasons I dig The Music Man.

Meredith Wilson

True ... another thing we kinda have in common is that I spent my high school years in the Midwest ... in the farming communities east of East St Louis ... the first time I saw the Music Man, it was at a high school performance. The school was so big that when they sang, 'Oh the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin', they brought a full Connestoga Wagon with two pair of Pergeron's accross the stage.
So although they were singing about Iowa, it could just as soon have been Mount Vernon Il, where I first saw the show.

My first musical theatre experience was seeing my brother play lead in Brigadoon and then I went on to play a bar maid in Paint Your Wagon. Both still tug at my heart strings. And later - I absolutely fell in love with Man of LaMancha

Spebsqsa

Give me too much beer (which is more than one), and we could be a Karaoke team!
