Safely find pictures from the internet?

This is something I've been wondering for a while now. I've seen plenty of people on these forums posting pictures in their posts.

However, whenever it comes to raunchy pictures, the only way I can find them is through a simple Google search. The problem is that you're pulling up any number of random websites which could contain viruses, malware, etc.

So, for instance, I google something. Then I hit "Images." Images pop up, but I have to click on them to bring up the link to copy and paste. That would take me to the random website. And only God knows what kind of website it'll take me to.

My question is... how do I safely find pictures from the internet to post on the forums? Or does everybody posting just take that risk?

The only way you can protect yourself is with a solid anti-virus program. AVG works for me.

Well, I have a Mac (with Virusbarrier Plus) but I still don't like the idea of entering a questionable website.

Is there a way to get the images off of Google without having to enter the site?

As long as you're using a secure firewall with a secure browser, i.e., anything but a MacroSux product, you should be fairly safe if you utilize a little common sense.

I personally use Firefox with add-ons that block both cookies and scripts. This allows me to decide exactly WHAT I will allow a site to provide to me, meaning I can block most advertisements and only allow images or certain site content to download to my system. My firewall is Zone Alarm.

In addition to these items, you should also regularly scan your system for viruses with a trusted scanning and maintenance software. For this I use System Mechanic and a few others. Norton and McAfee, while big names, are poor quality scanners.

Another is to check out the sites these very Literotica users are pulling their pictures from. You obviously cannot guarantee that each individual user is not a daft bint, but the populace as a whole is fairly genre-savvy and will help each other weed out the virus-propagators, the malware-spreaders, the etc. So let someone else take the risk and then just reap the benefits of their trial and error. ;)

There is another thing about using pictures in here that could become a problem. I have seen many threads that use pictures from actual living people as character portraits, most probably without their knowledge or consent. I wonder what happens if some respectable secretary suddenly finds her picture as example of the hot nymphomaniac chick or some poor innocent daddy his image as the evil rapist. Has there been any trouble regarding this so far?

Fwiw, the worst case of cyber cooties I ever caught was on a site where I was looking for a recipe. They're everywhere.

I'm an admimin on another site, so I have to check out some links before the users see them - stuff that I'm 90% certain is malicious before I click on it. I'm using Ubuntu linux running Firefox with Adblock plus. Never had a real problem.

Do you get paid for being an admin or is that voluntary? Is it hard work? Do you enjoy it? What is expected out of you?

And yes, I just hijacked my own thread. But that's okay because my question has been answer. I am very appreciative of all the answers.

But anyway, I could just never see myself having to be a mod/admin. Are they even the same thing?

It is voluntary. It is a hobby-related site, and I do it to promote the hobby. Most of it is not hard, it requires more persistance than skill. It is like remembering to do household shores like taking out the trash, and going around and locking the exterior doors at night, and paying the bills. If there is a strange package left at the front door, I'm the one who opens it. A couple of the other admins are really skilled programmers - they make improvements that I don't know how to do. It is sort of like having a carpenter and a plumber on staff.

Generally, a mod has lesser access than an admin. A mod's primary duty is usually to be a peacemaker/cleaner-upper when things go wrong, and just being there a lot is one of the biggest prerequisites so that you can handle problems while they are small.
Admins do things that are more long-term, not responding as much to things happen like a mod, but a bit more ivory-towerish, deciding on policies and patterns of growth. At least that's how it is usually. But there are times when I have to join the mods in throwing the rotting corpses back over the parapet when they are coming in too fast.

Me too, and you're right, it's mostly about being a babysitter for those who do not play well with others. I personally have near God-like abilities, though I choose to stay mortal, as it were, and leave the back office stuff to the operator of the site. It's fun, it's a hobby, and any more personal involvement would take the fun out of the job, though being king does have it's advantages. :D

You can mitigate some of your risk by clicking through fewer pages.

For example, I use www.sherlockcums.com as a metasearch engine so that all of my content is just 1 click away.

Do this and use a flashblocker browser extension or add-on to only activate the flash on the video and you should be pretty well protected.

Shoot me a message if you have any questions.

Found this today and couldn't resist posting it ...

LOL! I know a guy who looks a lot like that!!!

I myself am a moderator on a linux distro's forum. The lookalike was a fellow on another Linux forum many years ago, but we wouldn't let him be a mod, iirc. Not due to his looks, however :D

My forum just got access to a server, and I get to play with it, so I am in nerd heaven

No back to the topic at hand..........

No. Once you put a picture up on the 'net, it's basically open season.

it depends on what you looking for. For me, I prefer amateur pix. It took some time but, eventually I found sites like:

Red clouds (pay site, worth it, $25.00 for the year)
Voyeur web
Do my wife (yes that is the name)

If you actually trust Lit-Discussion members...start a thread asking for junk free sites with the pix your looking for....Legal Pix I'm assuming....:/

I think these days the only way somebody can get infected is using IE and ActiveX (is that thing still around?)

I personally use Debian Squeeze with Firefox / Chrome / Opera (as per my mood) and NEVER had a problem. In all my 12 years of using computers, I have never had a virus/malware issue. And believe you me, I have watched tons of porn over the years. I download images by the thousands; never had a problem. Thanks to websites who host files named sequentially.

I think google images is by far the most dependable resource for any kind of .. um .. mood you're in.
