Scion: Seeds of Glory IC

Screaming was not the way Nerina wanted to be remembered but she chose to make a lot of noise screaming at the pig in English and with some greek swear words that she had picked up over the years. She wanted her scythe out but couldn't risk letting her tenious position slip. So she continued screaming, abusing the pig's ears with profanity.

Nerina
The crash and rustle of the trees and brush suddenly gives way to chill open air, the muted thud of hooves on loam turning into the sharp, staccato beats of hooves on stone. From overhead, you can see that there's more like - the moon beams down strongly - and the sound of sea birds is audible.

The pig seems unfazed by your yelling, his pace only getting faster without the impediment to his forward motion of forest plants. Ahead of you is a large, deep pit that the pig seems to be charging straight for. It skids to a stop before reaching the edge of the pit, and you can see inside of the hole. There are several young women inside, each in various stages of undress, gathered around a small fire in the center of the pit. They're all on their sides or backs, sleeping seemingly peacefully. As the sound of hooves skidding over rock and the clatter of the gravel the beast kicked up rains down into the little pit, some of them start awake, looking up at the pig as he stops, your body still dangling from his tusks over the drop.

Everyone else
Nerina's screams and swearing have grown fainter, but are still audible. The woods are thick and heavy, but with Crystal's senses, and Suji's animal instincts, the group is moving through the woods quickly and easily. It almost seems like the sounds have stopped receding the further you go, and several of you can hear what sounds like the sea from up ahead.

Mystery solved. Nerina grabbed at the tusk assuming that the beast's next move would be to fling her into the pit. The smell of the sea wafted on the breeze and she smirked. "Stupid Pig" She said. "Bringing me near water was your first and last mistake." She had never tried to summon water so far but she was desperate.

Closing her eyes, she summoned the water with her innate Water ability. It was only a small trickle in her mind she could feel but it was enough. Water to ICE was her favourite trick if she got enough water to change its state.

Evan smiled as the Scions continued their pursuit. Not out of any true enjoyment of Nerina's predicament or the chase but for what would come next. Catching up to them, saving Nerina, fighting the pig and ripping it apart. His smile was tight lipped and savage; nothing at all like his normal warm expression.

The sounds weren't dying as much now. In fact, it seemed like they were starting to stay the same, even get louder. "Close now," he growled.

He leaped up and hauled himself into a tree with one hand and pulling his feet beneath him. As soon as they were planted he gathered himself and leaped; feeling his power and his will break the laws of the world with his command of the sky. He didn't fall back down but again rose in flight, breaking above the canopy of the trees.

Ahead he could see the edge of the forest and beyond it rock and stone going to a cliff before the sea. He could smell the tang of salt air clearly and hear the roar of the waves far below. And he could see...

"The forest ends in about fifty yards," he called down to the others. "I can see the boar and Nerina, looks like some others too!" Evan flew towards them; making no attempt to hide his path or his intentions. Just a little longer and he'd be there. "Hold on, Nerina. Hold on..."

'The forest ends in about fifty yards,' Evan called from above. If the forest ends, I will be able to see it. 'I can see the boar and Nerina, looks like some others too!' Then it is there and if I can see it I'll be able to hit the pig with an arrow. That should slow it down. With a sly smile I began to run with speed to match an elk.

Once the pig was in view I slowed, I stopped, I aimed. I felt my heart beat, faster then normal but sure and steady. B-bump I sighted down the shaft with both eyes. B-bump Felt the sea breeze move my air. B-bump. I took in the full sight in front of me, b-bump, Nerina clinged to the boar's tusk. B-bump, she was clearly focused on something. B-bump. But what was it? B-bump I aimed at the animals thigh just above his knee. B-bump Thwang. I let the arrow loose from ancient oak bow between heart beats.

I exhaled confidently as I drew another arrow and rushed forward. I wouldn't of killed the beast or harmed it much, but I certainly slowed it.

Hikaru had faded into the shadows and moved at a slow deliberate pace once she knew where the pig had moved with her new friend. She may be the daughter of a goddess but she was nowhere near capable of fighting an opponent of that strength head on. She would hide in the shadows and look for the right oppurtunity to strike while her more sturdy friends occupied it. If she was capable of landing her strike at the right moment then it would be the only strike she would have to make.

Everyone
The arrow flies straight, hitting the boar in his leg, making the great beast squeal. He dances back from the pit where the other girls are, shaking his head and trying to wheel to face the group that has emerged from the forest. His eyes are shining red now, and the breath from his nose is puffing out around Nerina's body like steam in the cold air.

One hoof paws at the ground, and he makes an abortive move forward - but its injured leg almost gave out under the beast's weight, pitching it forward and almost flinging Nerina from her perch on its tusks. A loud, pained squeal, and it limps slightly backwards, hooves scrabbling over the stony ground.

The boar flips its head, tossing Nerina away, directly at the group, and turning tail, running on three legs across the open ground towards another branch of the forest.

He'd expected the massive beast to turn and fight; boars were tempermental at best and did not take to pain well. Most animals would run from something that hurt them; not a boar. A boar would charge it and kill it or die trying.

So when the porcine monster wheeled and hurled Nerina at them before turning to flee, Evan was surprised. But not enough to not act.

"I've got her," he called out. The redhead swooped down towards the tumbling woman, only now noting her topless state. He'd seen some high quality good before in his line of work, but damn. He stretched out a hand and clasped one of hers, "Sorry it took us so long, Nerina." His eyes trailed down her body, "Mostly, anyway."

IC: Nerina was tossed into the air and with speed and grace hard to match Evan moved to catch her. The boar was fleeing, odd but way more likely to happen then a shape shifting boar that rapes women.

Freed of the fear of hitting a hostage I moved to do some damage to the boar. I knocked a new arrow onto the string, sighted, and released it. This time I didn't care where I hit it, just so long as it did damage. After the quick fire and release I charged after the boar full speed, hoping to get a final shot at it before it reached the concealment of the woods.

Hikaru saw her chance as the boar was fleeing. She took the sharp rock she had picked up off the ground and advanced on it. She moved in a wide movement to give her ranged friends a clear shot until she was sure she could pounce and land her attack. She wanted to jam the sharp jagged rock right into the knee of the fleeing beast. She didn't want to kill it, she just wanted to stop it in its tracks, and hopefully prevent it from ever hurting anyone again.

The arrow sticks firmly into the boar's side, blood gushing forth from the wound as it squeals loudly. As Hikaru darts in to slash at the creature's leg, it tries to jump out of the way, but barely manages to get off the ground. The slashing rock cuts deep, and the boar almost crumples to the ground. It is barely able to keep its feet, moving towards the shelter of the forest.

Before any other attacks can hit it, the boar makes a surge of speed, letting out a scream-like sound of pain and rage, and vanishes beneath the canopy, the shadows swallowing its form. From inside the trees, the group can hear another bellow of rage that echoes off the trees and over the cliffs.

From inside the pit, one of the women, a blond with smears of mud on her face, calls up, "What happened? Who are you people?"

Evan lowered himself and Nerina through the air towards the rim of the pit. He looked at the women below and grimaced. That was a larger group than he'd anticipated. It was good, since it meant the beast hadn't been killing or eating them. It was also bad because escorting a group of this size, with no supplies of any kind, through the woods back to the city could be tricky.

But for now, they had to focus on helping these women. Evan set Nerina down on the ground and pulled his jacket off, handing it to her. "Not that I mind, but this might make things more comfortable." Then he hopped down into the pit and held up his hands, smiling his best. "Ladies, my name is Evan. My comrades and I chased the animal that abducted you away. We're going to help you as best we can."

Seeing that Nerina wasn't the only topless beauty here, he stripped his t-shirt off as well, baring his chest to the chill night air. Well, at least his divine metabolism should keep him from getting a cold. Wouldn't that be embarrassing? "Are any of you hurt? We'll get you out of here, I promise, but it'll help if we know what we're dealing with."

Nina Taylor

The boar driven off, Nina let out the breath she now realized she'd been holding. The others had done their job defending the prisoners and had driven off the creature without her needing to become involved, and that suited her just fine. For now was her time.

"Yes," she said as she stepped up to the edge of the pit and deftly lowered herself down into it. "If anyone is wounded, please let me know." She felt the healing power welling up inside her, and closed her eyes to focus it, seeking out any pain or wounds, either physical or psychological, that needed tending in the pit.

IC: The boar put on a quick burst of speed as I let my arrow fly, the deadly shaft landed in its side and then the boar leaped as best it could as if it was trying to dodge an invisible fist. It did not slow, after its stumble it moved faster then I could aim, escaping into the forest far beyond.

I looked at the others, Evan and Nina were helping the captives. Nerina was putting on her coat. I walked over to Nerina, "Do we fallow? A wounded animal is often the most dangerous, but does that make it wiser to hunt it at our risk or to let it go and risk new victims."

I gazed down into the pit. Did a single boar manage to capture all these people, and keep them alive?

Nerina nodded and called forth her Scythe. "Yes, We follow. he will eventually resume his natural form and we can take care of the situation then." She buttoned up her coat and turned to Evan. "Thank you Evan" She said calmly.

Hikaru was torn at what to do. She wanted to chase after the boar. She was quick and nimble enough that she could probably keep up but even wounded she was certain it was more than a match for her one on one. She decided it would be best to stay back and help the others get people out of the pit and back to some sort of safety.

She summoned her fairies and had Suri help all the victims anyway they could. She was starting to look forward to heading back to a nice warm place. She knew these women had to be looking forward to it even more since they were all naked. As she glanced at some of the women she could see why the boar had tried to capture them. Most of them were just simply stunning. Not quite on her level or the other scions but damn attractive for normal humans.

Mentally, Evan winced. He was about to get himself into trouble with at least two of the lovely and lethal ladies he'd found himself in the company of. But he had to follow his convictions. "You're welcome, Nerina." Then he shook his head, "But I think it's more important to get these people back to town and their families before we go charging after the boar."

He was helping the women out by this point, handing them up Hikaru. He was shocked at how easily the slender Japanese girl pulled up women who weighed as much or more than she did, although he shouldn't have been. "Their families will have been worried sick, and there's no telling when the last time they had a good meal or were able to get clean was."

He spread his hands and shrugged, "Our tracker has the boar's scent and it's hurt pretty good from what I could see. We have some time before it'll be able to go after anyone again. And when we've gotten these ladies back to safety, we can come back after it prepared and in force. We don't know if it has any friends lurking out there or not."

IC: I look at the forest both longing for the hunt and terrified of it. Only a fool hunts alone. I have proven myself a fool many times over, do I finally have wisdom? Perhaps not, but this beast a quarry like none other I have seen, I doubt the two of us could take it with out the element of surprise.

'Our tracker has the boar's scent and it's hurt pretty good from what I could see. We have some time before it'll be able to go after anyone again. And when we've gotten these ladies back to safety, we can come back after it prepared and in force. We don't know if it has any friends lurking out there or not.'

"I wish my gifts didn't require I be compared to a dog. Well regardless you are correct on all accounts. I doubt I will have trouble fallowing the scent of blood, provided we can make it back here, which I believe we can do simply enough. Beyond that boars often live in groups and anything that can run like that with two arrows and a gash in it can give trouble even to us. A group of them would be..."

"Well lets go back Nerina, we'll get you some pants and resume the hunt in force. Unless the dwarves have something new for us. When Nina and I left them they were out cold."

Nina Taylor

Nina finished tending to the women; despite the frightening condition of their cage, they really weren't all that hurt.

"I agree," she said, looking at Evan. "We can't just leave these people out here. We need to get them back to somewhere safe. We need to regroup and recover. That... thing... is hurt, confused, and angry. But if we give it a bit of time, the excitement and fury of our first encounter will fade, and it'll grow tired. Then we track it to its lair and hit it when it's down."

She bit her lip a little. "Well, you guys can hit it. I'll hang back and get ready to help anyone who gets hurt, I guess. Speaking of which, are you all okay?" She stepped toward Nerina in particular, worried that her encounter with the monster may have done some damage.

The trip back to the city is fairly uneventful. There are no boar sightings, no getting lost, even with the large group of cold, dazed women you're herding. They all seem fairly healthy, but they are all half-dressed, and it's still winter in Iceland. Some of them seem to be shivering despite the exertion of the hike back to town.

The group of you draw quite a few eyes - several foreigners leading a troop of half-dressed women out of the woods isn't something usual for the city as a whole, even with the strange things that have been going on. But no one stops you, just stares and whispers for the most part.

Once you reach your destination with the women - hospital or police station, or individual homes, whichever you decide - they thank you profusely, hugging and kissing you all with gratitude. There's nothing more to be done, and most of them look like they need a good night's sleep. If you have questions for them, they'll answer willingly, but also look as though they might be happier to be interrogated tomorrow.

When you arrive back at the hostel, there is another person getting out of a cab - a petite woman with long dark hair, and a slender build. She's pulling a daunting amount of things from the back seat - looks like several suitcases, a briefcase, and one large trunk that looks like it could be holding anything at all.

Crysta and Nerina
As soon as you see this new person, you feel an immediate sense of kinship. She feels like family, close family, even more so than the others with you. Except maybe each other.

Erica hauled her bags out of the taxi, mentally cursing convention organizers everywhere. She'd been directed to bring a great deal of provocative clothing, so of course she needed shoes to match, and that had doubled her luggage amount. Her mother, her actual mother, not her biological one, had also warned her that her talents might be needed here as well. Smuggling a heavy rifle into iceland was not fun, and she'd had to hide the parts inside other objects, which had further added to her burden.

She set the trunk on the sidewalk, put all three suitcases on top of it, and picked up her briefcase, a black patent leather job with brass fittings. She paid the cab driver, tactfully ignoring the looks her boots, skintight jeans, black leather jacket, and purple corset were causing, and ran a hand through her long black tresses. What a dive. She flies all the way from Reims for a convention, and they put her in a hostel when they've rented an entire hotel. Cheapskates.

Erica looks around, evaluating passerby. Clubgoers, drunks, a group of tourists...wait. Erica frowns, her green eyes narrowing. Something about those tourists...

She sighs and closes her eyes, summoning up a fraction of power, then looks again and is almost blinded by the waves of coruscating power. Godchildren, all of them. Erica stands a little taller, runs her hand through her hair again and adjusts her jacket, allowing her arms to brush over various concealed goodies, and then puts on her prettiest smile, nodding to the group and approaching them.

"Hi!" She says in a high, clear, silvery voice. "Could you help me? My mother said I should be here, but I can't seem to figure out what she meant." She puts a hint of emphasis on mother and at the same time pushes a bit of power outward, hitting them with an ability that makes her seem irresistably attractive. It probably wouldn't work on them, but it was the only way she could think of to broadcast her heritage.

Crystal

IC: At the hostel was the familiar site of a taxi, with a girl with way to much baggage. However this young girl seemed vaguely familiar. I watched her adjust her coat noticing several items in concealed pockets. This isn't a good first impression to mess up.

'Hi,' she let out a bright and beautiful smile. Not anything different from a everyday smile but definitely something more. 'Could you help me? My mother said I should be here, but I can't seem to figure out what she meant.'

"I assume this parent is... well known."

Erica shrugged at the other woman's question, seemingly indifferent, but her eyes dart back and forth over the other passerby. In an off-handed way, she replies, "Oh I wouldn't say 'well known.' She's old, and she doesn't leave Greece very often anymore. Her children are always hunting for new experiences, though."

Evan couldn't help but smile. It was a good way to do things, of course, and not tip one's hand or seem insane if you were wrong about the people you'd encountered. But these kinds of word games and veiled references were kind of funny.

It helped that they were coming from such a woman. He must have done something to please the Gods, all of them, the way more and more slender, dark haired, gorgeous demigods had been appearing in the last day. This latest newcomer was...wow. Especially when she turned it on like that. And the corset with those tight jeans? Mercy.

He inclined his head to the newcomer, "My name is Evan, Miss. If you'd like, and would allow me to pretend to be a gentleman, I'd be glad to carry a few of your bags so we can continue this conversation inside." Both where it was warm and away from listening ears. "We might be able to clarify some of what you were sent here for, although we're still largely in the dark ourselves."

Erica turned to look at the man who had spoken, and had to fight to keep from drooling. Evan was gorgeous, with that body and his mane of red-gold hair, and it took Erica a moment to get her brain back on track. Gods, I need to get laid, she thought. She smiled at Evan and drops into a curtsy, her hands going through the motion of flaring a skirt.

"Well, Evan," she says with a grin, "I'm Erica. If you're going to pretend to be a gentleman, then I can pretend to be a lady and will accept your help with good grace." Erica turns and hefts one of the bags by its carrying strap and slings it over her shoulder, then picks up another in her left hand. Her right remains empty. She's not sure what kind of situation she's walked into, and she doesn't want to compromise both hands, not even with a group of Scions around her. In fact, especially with a group of Scions around her.
