Scottish Hotelier wins Gold for Hypocrisy

Sounds like the hotelier comes from one of the Hebridean islands, ...
Actually Wester Ross.

Yes; I dislike, as a class, soccer fans. This is based on their actions when in a crowd, rather than on individual observations. I also dislike vegetarians, because they are so aggressive in the propaganda against meat eating. Neither of these prejudices causes me to be reviled.

I disapprove of paedophile activity, and this gains me approval.

I disapprove of people who make the body's main sewer into a playground. This gets me reviled, and I don't understand why.

I'm only dealing with the word and its proper definition here. I would not call a closet homosexual a hypocrite, given the basic definition in my post above. A person who is homophobic or anti-gay and plays the liberal among liberals to fit in would be a hypocrite, but I don't see how a homosexual afraid to reveal himself is one.

Perdita

That's true but a closet gay who bashes gays is a hypocrite.

Not necessarily. A closet "bear" who bashes effeminate gays isn't hypocritical, just offensive.

I love this place. Where else can you go to find a threadjack devoted to the definition of hypocrisy. :D

I should have stopped with dressing Loo Rolls while I was ahead :D

I understand the word hypocrisy far better now but also looked up the word in Websters before committing it to 'print'

The act or practice of a hypocrite; a feigning to be what one is not, or to feel what one does not feel; a dissimulation, or a concealment of one's real character, disposition, or motives; especially, the assuming of false appearance of virtue or religion; a simulation of goodness.

My contention, if anyone is still reading, is that the offering of a twin bedded room in place of a double was the act of a hypocrite. He surely did not imagine the twin beds would stop an 'act of perversion' (as he termed it). He is quite within his rights to accommodate whom so ever he choses, offering two single rooms would align with a policy of not allowing gentlemen to share rooms, offering a twin instead of a double to claim some moral virtue is hyp...

This is indeed an interesting place. By that definition of hypocricy, the newspapermen who investigated were also hypocrites, maybe even moreso than the hotel owner. Anybody who lies about true intentions or true nature or allows somebody to believe such an untruth is a hypocrite. I'm assuming here that the newspapermen were not actually gay partners looking for accomodations.

I'm puzzlede about the way the hord "homophobia" is being bandied about. Literally, it would mean a fear of human beings but I know it is taken to mean a fear of gay persons. Maybe what I don't understand is the idea of "fear". Most homophobes dislike, even hate gay persons or the idea of homosexuality in general; they don't fear them or it. I also realize that some homophobes may be motivated by their concerns with their own sexuality, but I think this is seldom the case.

I am also rather dismayed with the promulgation of ethnic stereotypes that have appeared on this thread, namely that Scotch persons are stingy or greedy.
