Separating children from immigrant lawbreakers

No it is not. It is better if we try to understand each other rather than yelling at each other. When we spew rhetoric at each other no one is listening.

Its possible that somebody in Zaire suggested we observe how the Ebolavirus spreads so to better understand it. Another with critical thinking possibly suggested that we contain it quickly and find a vaccine for it.

Well OK. I am leaving this thread to die. It has now just gotten very silly

Still amusing watching the hoops the RWCJ here have to jump through to rationalize Brown Children In Cages as good public policy.

Hmmm...

Yet TRUMP is the one holding immigrant children in cages? You need a better news source and a better target for when you aim your selective outrage.

Yes, you found ONE picture from 2014.
Here are some pictures from 2018

and

Now, before you start whining a la BotanyBoy "but Mom! The other side does it toooooooooooooooooooo!" a little context might help, Tim:

Though the photos are nearly identical to those from 2014, there is one key difference between them: the 2014 photos showed only children who arrived at the border unaccompanied. The 2018 photos also show families that have been separated from one another.

LINK

Since you seem to have selective comprehension issues (Not unlike BotanyBoy), the temporary spike in 2014 was due to an unexpected influx of children attempting to cross the border WITHOUT parents.

The continual influx of caged brown children in 2018 was due to Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions' "zero tolerance" policy.

I hope I've addressed your deflection attempt. Now, why don't you answer MY question and tell us why Brown Children In Cages is good public policy?

In accordance with certain socio-political world views, chain link fences should be banned?

Currently, ILLEGAL immigration results in temporary detention while there is a determination made as to the immigrant's status. Had those SAME immigrants come to an immigration checkpoint they would have been given a court date and released. It is the FACT that they attempted to enter "ILLEGALLY" that creates the detention. They do it to themselves.

Also, per the consent decree, immigrant CHILDREN cannot be held longer than 20 days before being released and placed with either foster care of relatives. The delay is so that relatives can be located. Previously, while detained under the Trump administration they were temporarily housed in TENTS with AIR CONDITIONING and allowed to freely play while getting nourishing food, secure sleeping quarters, and health checkups/treatment.

Currently they are being detained while remaining with their parent(s) unless there is a compelling reason to separate them.

Do you have a "better" public policy than that? Or do you continue to chew on yesterday's news with fake memes based on images from past administrations?

This is absolutely not true and the whole point of Sessions/Trump's zero tolerance policy, you fucking moron.

Yes it is true.

So, what exactly happens when one presents themselves at the border? They will go into custody, which is a fancy way of saying immigration jail... The asylum-seeker is then put in expedited removal, or deportation proceedings.

During the question and answer session, the asylum-seeker must testify under oath that they have a fear of persecution if they return to their home country... Under international law...we have a duty not to return a person to a country where they may face torture or other serious harm. All of these steps are part of the US’ legal obligations toward asylum-seekers under the UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, also known as the 1951 Refugee Convention.

Next, asylum-seekers’ cases are then referred to a regional asylum office... If the person does demonstrate credible fear, they are sometimes — but not always — released from custody and ordered to appear later before an immigration judge to present their case.

The current bitch is that DHS is preventing immigrants from entering the US port of entry to apply for asylum. NOT that they're being detained while waiting on an asylum request. NOR is the detention something NEW that this administration is doing. ALL past admins have done this.

The separations and detention were ONLY for those crossing illegally between ports of entry OR if there was an issue with leaving the minor with the adults accompanying the minor.

Look at the date on that article, Timmy.

Hey Rob. What does RWCJ stand for and could you describe it? I'm not being clever or coy. I don't know what it means. I am admitting ignorance.

I know you are not addressing me. I will address the OP after some thought.

The RWCJ is ,of course, an intended insult. But like those of us who have started wearing the term "deplorables" as a badge of courage - then so too we will accept that.

The LWCJ seems to be abandoning their moniker(s) as rapidlly as they can distance themselves from the "new" Liberals.

Look at the date on that article, Timmy.

Article is dated May 1, 2018. A MONTH before the current EO ending familial separation.

So, what exactly is your (indescribably stupid and non-existent) point?

In my OP I asked the question are immigrants being treated differently than US citizens in concern about family being separated after arrest. Very few dealt with that question.

What Rob refers to as the RWCJ did, all of us, and the answer is "No, they're treated the same."

Virtually every post in this thread that deflects, obscures, or started ad hominem attacks was posted by one of those delightful "progressives." Go back, review the thread, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Sessions announced the zero tolerance policy on May the 8th, you fucking cretin.

And NOTHING changed in regards to ports of entry.

It was ONLY those attempting to enter across the border who began to be detained instead of Obama's "catch and release" policy.

But, hey you tried. And crashed. And burned. Again.

as someone else pointed out. kids are being separated through divorce from their parents all day long every day. this politicized hyperbole is only an exercise in vanity.

They're arresting asylum seekers at port of entry or did Fox News not tell you that?

They are DETAINING asylum seekers at ports of entry, as ALL past administrations have done, pending release and a court hearing once the immigrant has cited and proven basic "credible threat" requirements. Detentions do not involve familial separations UNLESS there is a risk to leaving the minor with the adult(s).

This policy remains unchanged from the policies of Obama, Bush, Clinton, and previous administrations. Zero tolerance ONLY applies to those who seek to cross the border illegally outside of a Port Of Entry.

You're still crashing and burning. As usual.

Then you agree that immigrants deserve court appointed attorneys and due process. Good start, you're learning.

There "detaining" them by separating them from family and putting them in locked cages. Much better than arresting them, right?

You do know you don't have to apply for asylum at a port of entry, right?
