Majoring In Justice (If Interested, please PM with a sample post)
Once again I sat in my dorm room alone. I was honored at first to be asked to be a Teacher’s Assistant. I was even happier when I found out it paid, and paid well – whatever ‘paid well’ means to a college student. After the glamour of the first paycheck wore off, the experience had been reduced to taking a double class load without earning the credits. I made a pot of coffee and resigned myself to yet another Friday night reviewing papers.
Two hours later I breathed a heavy sigh as I wiped the sleep from my face. “Okay,” I steeled myself to the task as I reached for the next paper. “’Halsey,’ I read aloud. “’By Michelle Evans.’” I rolled my eyes. I knew Michelle. In fact she and I had lived in the same dorm our Freshman year. She was the stereotypical pre-soccer-mom, came-to-college-to-get-my-M-R-S bitch. I would've called her a cunt, but she had neither the warmth nor the depth. A Senator’s daughter, she exuded an unimaginable sense of entitlement that comes from growing up Daddy’s girl. She knew what she wanted and unfortunately, knew exactly how to get it. “Pfft,” I sputtered. “This oughtta be good.” I flipped over the cover page and creased the cover as I began reading.
Halsey’s greatest popular success was his greatest error. In establishing himself as a popular hero with legendary aggressiveness,
the admiral would blind later generations to his impressive intellectual abilities and a shrewd gambler’s instinct to see into the very
souls of those around him.
I let my wrist drop absent-mindedly as I looked up in confusion. “That’s a solid opening,” I questioned. Did I read that right? I mentally re-read the passage, my lips moving with the voice I heard in my head. I never knew she had it in her. Maybe if she forgot about the boys and the bar crawls for a few hours she could actually put together something like this. I read a few words past before stopping abruptly. I again raised my head, this time in realization. Wait a minute. “Wait just one Goddamn minute…” I thought out loud. I stood up and walked to the small filing cabinet and began rapidly pulling manila files towards me. “She’s not that stupid, is she? She can’t be.” I pulled a thick stack of papers from a file, “She’s either really stupid…” I continued as I quickly scanned the sheets passing before my eyes. I slowly looked up in a euphoric stupor as I found what I was looking for, “…or really arrogant.” An agape grin crossed my face and filled my eyes. Not taking my eyes of the two papers in front of me, I returned to my desk. Three rings and then, “Hey, Michelle, this is Landon. Yeah, I’m glad I caught you" I couldn't help but smile at my choice of words. "…I need to talk to you about your paper.” This was gonna be good.
