Shooting guns

Love it. My plan for this year is to get into long range Precision Rifle shooting - 800-1200 yards.

I've done some distance shooting but not that far yet. Will probably need to upgrade my gear to get a rifle and scope set up capable of that distance, and buy a good rangefinder.

I have some sighting in planned for later this week. I have to cut the grass over there first. It's nice of the horses to share part of their pasture with the shootin' human.

May want to start looking at 6 ARC. Numbers are downright impressive as to where it hits transonic. And doesn't even require 22, 24, or 26 inch barrel to do so.

I'm already at a 300WM, so I reckon that's kinda where I am, short of adding another rifle and another caliber.

e/t/a: AR platform? Okay!!!

I don't shoot as much as I once did, Parkinson's has slowed me down; but I have a history. I loved hunting with historic and/ or iconic weapons and clambering. Turkeys with a LaFever 12 ga double that was nearly 100 years old and deer with a Savage 99 chambered in .250-3000 are 2 examples. These days I'm limited to shooting hogs from my porch...I have a floodlight over a bait pile about 50 yards from the house, and check it whenever I'm up at night. A Ruger No 1 International in 7×57 does the job.

I’m a member of a gun club in Florida that has an outdoor range, I usually do most of my shooting in the cooler months (November - April).

Too bad this thread died out. Posting on the gun thread on the politics page is a fool’s errand.

I was doing some fun at our farm plinking with my Ruger 10/22 at 90 yards. My eyesight is going tho. I can’t line up the blade and the notch and keep the target focused.

Damn eyes.

Then the damnedest thing happened. I was reloading my magazines and a deer walked up, 50 yards from me. I shot at it to scare it, but it didn’t really run away, it ran towards me!

I did not want to pop it, because it’s not deer season and I only had a 22.

Then I brought out my hand cannons. I have a colt python and a Springfield armory 1911 mil spec. Holy hell those things are loud!

Don’t know that I’d call it a hobby, but do a iittle plinking at times.

I started hunting rabbits with a bolt action 22 when I was 12. Later, did a little bird hunting with friends, but never really got further into hunting. Much later in life, took a job that required me to become a LEO for three separate State agencies as an adjunct to the position. Had to do quarterly qualifications to maintain my credentials. And discovered I rather enjoyed the competition among officers. More than I ever envisioned. Initially carried a Browning Hi-Power as a duty weapon, then tried a Ruger Security Six of a friend. It just fit my hand better, so I got one. My qual scores went up.

Still carry a Ruger 357 in the woods, and enjoy a little target shooting now and then. Acquired a 357 lever action rifle recently…so maybe it’s becoming a hobby. LOL

nope. no interest. Guns are meant for killing and I have no interest in playing with things that are meant to kill. Owning one and knowing how to use it? Yeah, I'm okay with that. But "playing" with them as one would if it's their hobby? No, no interest.

If instead of guns ones hobby was to assemble bombs from pieces of pipe, nails and gunpowder you'd believe them to be insane. You'd say, "Bombs are deadly and are not play things!" ..Yeah, but how are guns different? Especially ones like AR's that can kill or maim dozens within a minute from hundreds of yards away. ..Nope. Sorry, just the sight of guns turns my stomach, even when I've owned one.

My father taught me to shoot and about guns, and my Hubby's family has always had them too. We have a few in our house, safely locked away from little hands. We go to the range every couple of months. Less a hobby and more a routine, I guess.

Now, my dad is getting into cowboy action shooting. He's been cutting back on work since his heart attack a year and a half ago, and the cowboy action shooting is one of the things he is doing to relax. He's hoping Hubby and I will go with him next time we are down there. My mom won't go. She's not a fan of guns.

The cowboy action shooting sounds rather interesting. I need to go watch one at the local range.

I bought a 9 mm a few years back when the world started to feel out of control. I've had an old Henry "Golden Boy" rifle on the wall for years. It's a work of art. Never been fired.

My dad already had a lever action rifle from his youth, but he had to buy two single action revolvers and a shotgun (his didn't fit the rules). He also bought period clothing, and he's sent us numerous pictures of himself all dressed up. He's having a blast. ❤️

Good for him! My lever action is relatively new to me, but enjoying it already. My Ruger revolver is DA, but I have access to another Ruger in SA. All in 357, but I do use a few .38 spl rounds. And I already have a few pairs of cowboy boots, and a rodeo style belt. Heck, I’m almost good to go already…lol.

Yep I enjoy shotgunning most but I got run a few rounds through a couple of guns that are in my carry rotation this past weekend just to be sure I can run them smoothly!

We love it! I grew up with and around guns, whether for hunting or just shooting, and own many including shotguns, hunting rifles, ARs and a variety of handguns.

We occasionally go to the local range, but luckily own a ranch within a couple of hours that we spend time at where we have our own range set up and shoot all we want.
