So i just finished two different stories recently. One was a full-fledged novella in 10 chapters, totaling about 25k words. So I submitted each of the 10 chapters as part of a series.

The other is a much shorter companion piece - technically it has chapters, but the whole thing is only 10k words or so in total. So I submitted that as a single, standalone document.

You really should read the entirety of the novella before the companion piece; there's a couple big spoilers.

Waiting through pending and they're popping up one at time - the first 3 chapters of the novella are live...and now the companion piece.

Oops.

Yup, definitely. But the oops is yours.

It makes little sense to split a standalone 25k-word piece; the scant reasons might include having some really hanging cliffhangers. But there is practically never a reason to split into 10 chapters. That’s less than a page each, and it’s only going to annoy readers.

And of course, the added bonus of publishing in one go is avoiding snafus like the one that befell you.

Having had parts of one series published out of sequence, despite clear numbering, I don't even post one part until its predecessor has a publication date.

Oh it was definitely my oops. Im not actually annoyed, just sharing.

And see, when i post long stuff as one piece, i also get complaints.

I cant win.
