I know you need 100 posts to have an avatar (I may never get there), but does that apply to Signatures also?

I don't see my text only sig.

(Edit; well now the Sig is showing up, so maybe there was a temporary delay.)

Also, even though I have the option checked, I only see links for attachments in posts, no thumbnails or in-line images.

I have dumped cookies for this site.

There's no automatic function for that here. After you made an image an attachment, you can copy the url of the attached image and then insert it into a post with the tags. There's also an "insert image" button that takes care of the [img] tags for you.

You may need to clear out your cookies. You may also need to log out and and sign in again.

Here's a more detailed post that deals with the issue

Also, are you within the restrictions of 150 pixel and 15KB?

Did you load an Avatar or a Profile Picture? They are in different places.

You have an avatar pic that meets the size requirements loaded, but it's just not showing up?

I'd do what fire suggested. Log out, clear your cookies and and temp internet files/cache (at least for Lit), maybe even close your browser and turn your computer off, then start everything back up and try to upload an AV that meets the size and file type requirements again. Make sure you click save/update below the avatar upload box, and then see if it shows up. Sometimes there are just glitches in database that require time and/or fiddling to fix.

Obviously make sure you have any avatar options enabled in your User CP so you can see your AV when you finally get it to work. However, this isn't the major problem right now because I do have those options enabled and can't see your AV.

If you try everything that you can think of and people have suggested to no avail, you may want to send a polite PM to Manu for advice. Occasionally accounts are screwed up in the database and won't allow a user to do something they should be able to do or show improper info in profiles and such.

The thread I started does not show the 'landscape' icon to allow posting of pure pictures versus an URL.
Why is that ?????

You use the icon to insert a link to a picture and have it appear directly in the post.

If the picture is on your computer and/or you want it to appear as a link, you'll need to use the Manage Attachments button below the post's text box. Click on that button and then upload the image(s) from your computer via the dialog box that pops up. Attached images have size limits, whereas hotlinked images do not (but it's nice if they don't stretch the page even on a small screen).

Thank yo, but for some reason my thread does not show that icon to be able to post directly and have the actual picture posted ??
Will post a link to my thread and you can check.
BTW thank you very very much for being so nice and responsive.. Thank you

You're right, the icon isn't there. Maybe it's a glitch or they've killed hotlinking in that forum? To check, try using the code YOUR IMAGE's URL format instead.

Thank, doesn't seem to work... how can I check about if it is a glitch ??
I haven't found one other thread where this is a problem..
Sorry to be a bother. thank you

Aww, I didn't know I had to wait to get 100 posts until I could post an avatar. That's going to take forever and a day :(

Not necessarily. Head over to the Playground - there are always a bunch of game threads going on - some of them are pointless letter/number threads, others are actually intelligent, fun, chatty types of game threads. You can rack up your posts in no time while simultaneously carrying on lively discussions in the forums of your choice :).

Welcome to Lit, by the way :).

It seems for whatever reason the IMG code has been turned of on the GLBT Personals and BDSM Personals forums, it may be an oversight or a deliberate decision by the site owners. I would suggest you PM the mod "Lady G" and see if she knows anything.

Hi, I've tried posting using the format etc but doesn't work. Tried PM'g Lady G wit5h the question but no response. Kinda depressing that all other threads get this feature-- except mine...

but it seems I can only post a link , not the actual pictures ?
Sorry if I'm a not so smart in all of this...

It appears so, I'm really not sure why. If you haven't heard back from the mod in a few days you could try PMing Laurel.

It's not really a matter of intelligence (though you're going to have issues if you have the IQ of a rock). It IS a matter of RELAXING, reading the instructions people provide, and simply playing around with the system. I'm guessing you've been so hung up on the fact that you can't hotlink in those specific forums that you haven't taken the time to figure out how you CAN post pictures over there.

I'm also guessing they have the IMG code disabled in those forums due to flagrant, repeated rule violations by the members in there. When they have ongoing problems, with, say, dudes posting gratuitous genital shots or porn, or images that may be of minors, they tend to nip those issues in the bud by disabling features. That's totally their right as site owners - Law Enforcement is going to come after them for violating laws (like the 2257 Rule), not their members, in most cases. The same goes for multiple types of code (HTML, J A V A, etc.) - they had issues with people abusing the privileges of posting code, so they turned those feature off, forumwide. A few rule violators and/or malicious posters can ruin it for everyone.

Anyway, you post an attachment, which appears as a link to an attached picture. Then you/other people click on that attachment link and it opens the picture, just as you would if you attached an image or document to an email message.

I just checked to make sure attachments would work in your specific thread, and they do.

1) To attach an image, scroll down below the box you post in (you'll have to write something that's at least 5 characters in there, like "A beautiful flower..."

2) Click on the Manage Attachments button.

3) In the window that pops up, click Browse, find the picture on your computer that you want to attach, then click Upload. There are size limits for attachments, which are listed in that chart in the Manage Attachments pop-up window. However, if your pic is correctly sized, it will say "Uploading" then add the file name as an attached file near the top of the window if the upload was successful.

4) Close that window once you've attached all of the pics you want to attach and the upload is successful.

5) Click on the Preview Post button on your post to make sure the attached image shows up as an attachment.

6) If it does, you did everything correctly and you can hit Submit Reply to post your post (with the attachment).

7) You can not attach the same image (with the same image name) more than once here. Therefore, if you want to attach the same image, you'll have to rename the file and go through the process in a new post OR direct people to the previous post, where you originally attached that file.

There are even easier instructions on posting attachments that no one should have trouble following in our FAQ sticky at the top of the main How To page.

I've never heard of anyone not knowing how to click on an attachment link.

Here's what an attachment link looks like (click on it to see the attached pic):

Thank you Erica..
I guess I'll have to manage with that-- the size limitations and using a link to click on.
It does seem odd that some threads have the ability to post a direct picture ( without size limitations) and others don't ?
I try to understand that if that 'facility' is abused they ( moderators ) might be inclined to turn it off.. but if not abused or a thread has never had that facility that it should not be operable ? Not complaining just merely wondering.
Thank you for all your attention on the thread.. :)

I was surprised when i was available to post only a profile picture and not the avatar!
Why? Lit has 1.3 million members, most of whom have very few, if any, posts. Allowing all of those members to post an av would be a huge waste of bandwidth. Someone has to pay for that.

If anyone could post an av, this place would be crawling with cock. *pukes*
