"It'll be fine," Owen assured, making his way away from the pair at an easy pace.

Sam's arm looped around Fiona's waist and he settled against her side, closing his eyes. But he glanced up again as Jani approached, now dressed a bit more casually and clearly recovering from something as she seemed to be blushing.

Sam grinned, speaking up, "Did Dola welcome you back?"

"Shush, old man," Jani grumbled, the red on her face deepening as she waved him away. "Fiona, I hate to bug you, but can I talk to you for a second?"

Fiona had to chuckle as Sam teased Jani about her ruffled appearance. When she asked for a moment to talk privately, she nodded and stood to follow. She glanced back once at Sam before they were a distance enough away that he wouldn't hear their conversation.

"You never want to talk to me privately. I hope that this isn't going to be too upsetting." Fiona said as she turned to face Jani, her arms folded over her chest.

Jani faced Fiona but didn't look at her at first. She had her hands shoved in her pockets, kicking at rocks with her metal-capped boots. "It's not about work or anything bad. I just... I guess I need some advice."

Scratching at the back of her neck nervously, Jani finally met Fiona's gaze, looking somewhere between terrified and blissfully happy. She started to speak, but had to stop, shaking her head. "I... Shit. I can face down Elder Dragons, entire armies, even raging bloody Scots. But when it comes to Dola... I feel like a lamb left to the wolves. She's so gentle and quiet but I'm not built for gentle and quiet." She chuckled, shaking her head before looking to Fiona again. "She's the one. It's only been a few months, but I'm so sure of her. I love her like no one I've ever loved before. I've flirted with all kinds. Hell, even you and Ezra, even enemies. I've always been brash and nothing much scares me anymore. But she... I'm so scared of messing this up. I know she's the one for me and I'm terrified of rushing her. I've been giving her the lead, I know the life she came from before and I never want her to feel trapped or overwhelmed. I feel like if I wait too long, though... She'll think she's just a plaything to me, that I'm no better than the people who used her before."

Jani sighed deeply. "I was going to ask Sam about a ring... Damned old man had to make fun of me. But... I don't know if it's the right time. Gods, I love her. And I love her kid like I love yours, and their whole dynamic. I want to make sure she sees home again, and Andre gets to meet his people. I want her to be happy and free and comfortable. I'd follow her anywhere."

Jani shook her head again. "Sorry, I'm rambling. I just don't know who else to ask for advice. You've been not only married, but in love, for twenty years, even through some really difficult shit that would pull lesser relationships apart. And I trust you, as my commander and shield-sister."

Fiona couldn't help the small chuckle that she issued as Jani practically babbled on and on about Dola and how she wanted a future with her. "When you come from nothing, you appreciate everything. I think that you and Dola can both understand that. I grew up so poor that there were times that I got caught stealing just to be able to have a warm meal in jail. Sam changed all of that for me, but it's not about what he can give me physically. Even if we never married, there's a part of my soul that's his. It's not easily explained. We were in no rush outside the war that was coming. Hell, we might have never gotten married if he hadn't needed a queen urgently."

"Dola is a patient person. She's had to be. I think she would tell you if she thought you were only there to play around." Fiona said softly. "Is that what you're afraid of? That she'll reject you out right?"

"I'm worried that she won't trust that I'm serious about her. Or that she'll reject me because she doesn't want to risk her heart on a death-or-glory maniac like me. I'm a professional mercenary, and even worse, a Rider. I could die and leave her all alone. Why she's even entertaining this whole thing now, I'll never know."

Jani shrugged with a sigh. "I don't know... My head's all over the place. I want the best for her, but I also want to be with her. And there's no way I'm what's best for her."

"Jani, she will tell you what is best for her," Fiona said as Jani seemed so nervous and defeated at the moment. "And if she won't, Andre will. She obviously loves you if what she did when you got home is any indication. Don't let this be the moment that you lose your nerve. Be as bold and as brash as you always are."

Jani turned red again at Fiona's mention of the reunion, and she had to laugh at herself. "Gods, I feel like a blushing maiden. I've never been this way." Taking a deep breath, she nodded. "Right... Communication. It's easier said than done, ironically. So... Yeah, I need to talk to Andre first. Then if he's okay with everything too... I'm gonna get Sam to make a ring next time we're back in Trondheim." She nodded more resolutely then. "Thanks... For letting me ramble and reassuring me. I needed a voice of reason."

She stepped up and hugged Fiona tightly, kissing her cheek before she trotted away toward Riley and Andre's camp.

Fiona watched Jani go off, hopefully feeling a bit better after spilling her guts on the matter at hand. She couldn't help but shake her head as she turned to return back to Sam. He was quietly sitting where she had left him, content to watch the world go by around him with a jug of ale at his side. Fiona paused in front of him for a moment before she reached out and took his face in her hands.

"You are the most patient man in the world." She said as she leaned in to kiss him gently. "I never thought I would say those words."

She leaned in again and deepened her kiss, letting out a soft sigh before she bit his lower lip and pulled it. When she released him, she stared into those beautiful green eyes and gave him a slight grin.

"Chase me." She whispered softly.

Sam was taken off-guard by her second kiss, a hand rising to her arm as she took his face in her own hands. When she pulled back, he leaned forward as if he didn't want her to go. And at her words, he pushed himself away from the wall and up with one arm with a grin.

"Then you'd better get movin', darlin'," he growled softly, taking a step toward her.

Fiona gave him a grin as she turned and ran off towards the woods. She loosened her hair from the thick braids that she wore when riding, letting it trail behind her loosely in complete freedom. She didn't try too hard to get away from him. She wanted him to catch her. She wanted him. Even after twenty years, she still wanted and needed him.

She wove between the trees, fingers trailing along each base as she went. It got her heart racing, excitement reaching a fevered pitch as she heard him trailing behind her.

Despite his size and being in his late forties, Sam was quick and agile still, finding longer straight paths to make up for lost ground as she waved through the woods. He trailed behind purposely at times, letting her get them good and lost before he doubled his efforts and she could hear him pounding through the brush to catch up.

Vaulting a stump and brambles, he managed to catch Fiona by the back of her tunic and instantly he pinned her to the nearest tree with a growl of effort. His hands had her wrists trapped above her head and he paused for a moment, catching his breath as he simply looked her over with a little smile. Stepping in closer til their hips were flush together, he caught her in a slow, burning kiss. One hand came to cradle the curve of her neck and jaw, the other dropping to her hip.

When Sam grabbed her, Fiona let out a gasp and couldn't stop laughing as he pinned her to the tree. He always amazed her with how fast he was, especially when it came to chasing her from time to time. When he pressed against her, she instantly found that he was just as excited as she was. And then he was kissing her.

The moment that his lips found her, she melted. His hands released her wrists and slipped behind her neck to support her while the other found her hip. The shiver that raced up her spine was full of need and want. She didn't think that she would ever stop wanting him.

"The first time you ever kissed me was just like that." Fiona murmured as their kiss broke. "I need to thank Heather again for inviting me to the loch that day."

"I need t'thank all of 'em fer pushin' me never to give up on you back before I realized what I had. Gods, I love you," Sam murmured in return before he was kissing her again like their lives depended on it. The hand on her hip traced up beneath her tunic and in moments he had her naked to the waist, his lips pressing to her collarbone while his fingers tugged at her belt and loosened it.

Her fingers found their way inside his own tunic, curling around his shoulders as he pulled her clothing free and pressed kisses against her naked skin. She let out a soft gasp as he pulled her belt free, her trousers loosened in an instant. No matter how intricate her armor was, Sam could have her naked in a matter of moments.

As the last of her clothing in his way was tossed aside, Sam shrugged off his own shirt and pressed his forehead to hers for a moment, enjoying her bare skin against his own, before he slipped down her body to kneel before her and pressed a slow but hungry kiss to her thigh, his fingers caressing the softer skin til they found her seam and so did his tongue, slowly probing inward in earnest as his dark green eyes flicked up to her, as if looking for her approval. He was always trying to learn how to please her better.

She hugged her husband tightly as he pressed his head against her own, their skin pressed together in the most intimate way. Then he was kneeling, pressing her back against the tree as he kissed her thigh and his large hands caressed her wet slit. She whimpered in need as he did that, gasping as he suddenly combined that with his tongue.

"Samuel..." She panted, her head pressing back against the thick tree trunk. "Gods."

She trembled as he worked that magic, his eyes searing into her as her fingers curled into his thick, dark hair. "Don't stop, eldere. Never ever stop."

At her welcome, Sam gladly lost himself in pleasuring her, closing his eyes as he devoured her with plenty of practice and experience to sweeten her journey toward that first peak.

When he felt her tensing and ready to give in, his hands wrapped around her thighs, locking her in place.

A leg draped over his broad shoulder as he devoured her. She let out a cry as his hands clamped firmly around her thighs and held her in place. She wasn't going to escape when he set his mind to something, including her pleasure. She rode his fingers and tongue, taking great happiness in giving him just what he wanted.

"Sam..." She cried out, letting out a small scream when she came.

As she trembled in her release, Sam rose and pressed his forehead to hers once more, smiling softly to himself as he watched her trying to catch her breath and recover. His fingers traced over her hips and belly and between her breasts, hungry but patiently waiting.

Fiona trembled in her husband's arms, nuzzling against him as he pressed his forehead against her own yet again. His green eyes watched her every move as he traced a hand over her naked skin. When he palmed a breast, she shivered again and captured him in a heated kiss.

"You're a fool for waiting." She whispered as the kiss broke, their lips barely pulling apart. "You are rock hard, love."

"Sometimes waiting makes th' payoff even better." He couldn't help kissing her again, more submissive now. "I want you to take control, love," he admitted softly. "You've asked me t'make you mine so many times... I think it's your turn."

"I thought you'd never ask." Fiona said with a grin as she kissed him one last time before she was pushing against his shoulders.

Once he was on his back, she worked free his belt and then pulled his trousers down his hips. She took a moment to appreciate his body, licking her lips as she moved forward to take his length into her mouth. She had once done this for money to support herself and Will, but now, Sam was the only man that she did this for. It was something she took pride in.

Fiona's gaze flicked up the length of his body, watching his face for a moment before a hand moved between his thighs and she cupped his sack, giving him a massage.

Sam let himself relax back against the mossy ground, fingers lacing through her hair. As she took control, he showed his pleasure freely and gave in completely to her care. "Fiona," he moaned quietly, his hips flexing in time with her.

She bided her time, gauging how he was feeling as he moaned and sighed. The moment that she thought he was nearing the edge, she pulled back, letting him cool for a moment. Leaning over, she nipped at the naked skin of his hip before she climbed up the length of his body and was soon slowly sinking down on him. As he pressed into her body, she let out a long moan.

"Gods, I missed this while we were away." Fiona murmured, planting her hands on his chest to balance herself. "These are the moments that I cherish more than anything."

She leaned in and nuzzled his throat, nipping at it as her hips started to move. She was soon riding him in earnest, seeking to push him over the edge.
