"I'm always ready when it comes to you," Andre muttered, nuzzling into her neck as he settled. Smiling to himself, he stole another kiss, clearly and uselessly in love.

Riley couldn't help the silly grin that was on her lips as he stole another kiss and nuzzled against her. She was about to speak when she heard a distant noise, someone approaching. Her ears pitched forward and she let out a long sigh.

"Jani approaches...again." She murmured as Jani called out looking for Andre. "Lucky us, huh?"

"Mhm," Andre hummed, taking a deep breath before standing and dressing in trousers and a loose, sleeveless shirt. "You coming too?"

"She's spoken to you nearly ever day since we came back. Has she not asked your Ma yet?" Riley asked with a long sigh as she rolled off their pallet and pulled on her own trousers and tunic, buckling her belt to at least look halfway decent.

"She hasn't even really asked me yet what I think. She keeps losing her nerve." Andre chuckled and stepped out with Riley to see Jani approaching.

"Hey, kids," Jani called, stepping into their camp looking nervous, something Riley had rarely seen.

"Hi, what's up?" Andre asked, smiling as she paused before him, messing with something in her pocket.

"Like you don't know already," Jani sighed, pulling out a little ring box. "I... I went to ask Sam about a ring. Sneaky bastard talked the local smith into letting him use the forge..."

Jani opened the box and showed Andre, and he couldn't help smiling immediately at the silver and gold-lined band with engravings of the Himalayas all around the outside. "That's gorgeous... She'll love it, Jani."

"And you're... Okay with this?" Jani asked, meeting his gaze and earning another smile. "If she says yes-"

"When she says yes."

"... Sure... If that happens, that'll make me your step-mother. You're okay with that?"

"Of course I am." Andre stepped up and placed his hands on her shoulders. "She's needed someone like you for so long. Someone to excite her and listen and be a partner, not a master. You love her like no one ever has, and you care what she thinks. That's all she wants and needs. And that's all either of us ever wanted for ourselves and each other. To be free, and loved."

Jani took a deep breath, giving him a gentle shove. "You're gonna make me cry, kid." With a smile, she stepped forward to hug him tightly and kiss his cheek. "I've never wanted kids. But if I have to have one... A competent adult with a damn good heart is a nice compromise." Pulling back, she then grinned at Riley. "And that means I get to be your mother-in-law someday, punk." She stepped over to hug Riley too before taking another deep breath. "Okay... I just need to get up the nerve to actually do this."

"Who says you'll be my mother in law?" Riley asked as Jani hugged her tightly as well. "And if you don't get on with it, I'll go do it for you. I'm tired of you lurking around our camp."

"You're gonna marry that boy someday, you're too in love to ever think of someone else," Jani teased before stepping away. She hesitated briefly as she spotted Dola from afar, walking with a friend she'd made in the village, carrying baskets with shopping. Andre stepped up beside her, looking to Dola as well and seeing Jani's trepidation.

"Oh, come on," Andre chuckled, before cupping his hands around his mouth to call, "Geia sou mamá, éla edó!"

"I'm not ready yet," Jani whispered loudly, blushing instantly as Dola looked over, before saying farewell to her friend and making her way over.

"Too bad, go." Andre gave Jani a stronger nudge to set her walking, and the two women met halfway. Jani wrung her hands nervously, before Dola gently reached out to take one, and they walked away together to talk. Andre watched them with a grin, looping an arm around Riley's waist. "Good. I know she was worried about rushing, but this is exactly the right time." He looked down to Riley then and murmured, "And maybe I'll get up the courage to ask you properly too."

Riley looked up at Andre with a grin and gave him a shrug. "You might have to ask a few times before I say yes. I don't give in very easily."

She leaned in and nuzzled against him before she rested her head against his chest and watched Jani and Dola walking off into the distance.

"Well, you technically already said yes when you suggested we just get married off the cuff and not wait for anyone." Andre nuzzled back, letting his head rest against hers. "I love you. Way more than I ever imagined I was capable of."

Riley let out a sigh as Andre held her tightly, murmuring that he loved her more than he ever thought he could. She was about to speak when something crept into her brain. It was an intense sadness from somewhere nearby. Almost like a rain cloud had suddenly appeared and threatened everyone with a downpour. She lifted her head to look down the valley towards the village, her brows knitted together in worry.

"Something's wrong." She said softly. "Grandpa..."

She let go of Andre and was off in an instant. She had to make it to her grandfather. She didn't know why, but suddenly it was very important.

Andre was left standing for a moment, but dashed after her as he registered what she'd said, unsure of how serious it was

Julia and Brogan had been staying with Voluun's family in a small side house, and as Riley arrived, she found her grandparents outside with Sam. The older couple had been enjoying a quiet day, til Sam had come to break the news. Brogan seemed stoic if forlorn on the outside, but the depth of his grief was more palpable to Riley as she arrived.

Many wondered how Brogan could've felt pity or given mercy to Sarah after what she'd done to him and Julia and the entirety of northern Scotland. Still more wondered how they had ended up close friends and allies, and how Sarah had found her way back into good graces with the isles. Brogan never spoke of it much and he'd especially never expected Julia to give a damn about Sarah again, but the truth was that the brief love he'd had for the woman had lasted and translated into an empathy and compassion that the Ghis family had lacked in the time of Tamblin and his father.

As Riley arrived, Sam looked up. Seeing her expression, he stepped out of her way. "He's okay, love... Sad news, though."

Julia held Brogan's hand tightly as Riley arrived, fearing that the bad news might make him sick. She constantly worried about his health, even though it had been mostly under control for years now. Except for a few low spots here and there, Brogan was as strong as he ever was.

"I'm sure they've already told Annie?" Julia said softly as she looked towards Sam, Riley coming to stop next to her father as she looked to Brogan in worry. "They were sailing with Ria, last I heard."

"If she doesn't know already, there's a message on th'way." Sam sighed, brushing Riley's fur back before encouraging her on toward Brogan who seemed so far away mentally.

Riley stepped forward to take Brogan's other hand, looking up at him with concern on her face. "Grandpa? Let's go inside and sit down for a while."

Brogan glanced up slowly, and rose to silently follow Riley inside. Sam stayed with Julia, hugging her against his side. He knew his father was conflicted over the enemy Sarah had once been, and the steadfast friend and defender she'd been the majority of their lives.

"Do you want some tea?" Riley asked as she got Brogan settled. "Some ale? What would make you feel better?"

She didn't like the sense of hopelessness that was inside of him. The others might have seen him holding things together, but she could feel that things weren't right.

"I jus' need time, love." Brogan sighed as he sat down, combing his fingers back through his long hair. "It's more'n jus' Sarah... I jus' realized how old I am... How old my brothers an' sisters are. My generation's in its twilight. I'm comin' up on eighty... I've lived longer'n most already. I guess... I jus' got reminded o' my mortality, love. An' moreso, yer Gran an' my siblings' mortality."

"You're not just some old man though." Riley said as she came to sit at his side. "You still chase around with all of us. You're as strong as you have ever been. You've got a lot of years left ahead of you. Gran is right there with you."

"I know, I've still got my strength. But it's not me I'm worried about, love. It's just... Knowin' I'm gonna lose a lot o' people in th'next couple decades."

"And you'll gain people as well." Riley insisted, leaning her head against his shoulder. "There will be happiness with that sorrow."

"I know, darlin'. It's hard t'find comfort in tha' right now... But I will as we go. I jus' need a while t'get myself together." He wrapped his arms around her, pressing his head to hers.

"I love you, Grandpa." Riley murmured as Brogan leaned his head against her own and held her tightly. "I came running as fast as I could. I felt you that far away."

Riley simply moved a little closer to him as they both went silent. After Tati had returned from her flight, Fiona got the kit cleaned up and soon came to join Sam and Riley. Dinner would follow them that night after she had told Rhett what had happened. It was how the tribe took care of their friends and family. The Ghis were no exception to that.

Fiona let Tati run towards Julia and Sam, the little girl hugging her father first and then her grandmother. It was a welcome distraction from the pain that anyone might be feeling. Entering the house, Fiona saw Riley and Brogan napping together while Andre patiently stayed silent in his own tasks.

"Riley, love," Fiona said softly as she woke her. "Go into town and get us some things to drink with dinner. Uncle Rhett and Yul should be here shortly."

Riley stretched and looked over at Brogan, not wanting to leave him but giving her mother a nod. She gathered Andre and they set off to do as they were bid. Fiona sat down next to Brogan and gave him a bittersweet smile.

"My fastest rider is already off to Ireland with our condolences. I've promised that we will come the first chance that we are able." She said softly as she took Brogan's hand in her own. "Ezra has offered to personally escort you and Julia if you would like to go. It's not safe for Sam and I just yet to make that journey, but he's confident he could get you there."

"Brogan, you know that I'll do anything in my power for you. You took me in and gave me a home when I had none. Getting you wherever you need to be right now is the least that I can do." Fiona said softly as he seemed abnormally quiet. "It can't take away that ache in your soul, but it would give you the chance to say a proper goodbye."

"I'll talk with Julia about it," Brogan murmured, giving Fiona's hand a gentle squeeze. "It'll be tough fer any of us to get there, with th'entirety of England an' Scotland an' Wales on guard. I may no' be as big a target these days, but I'm sure unknown dragons passin' over won' be welcome."
