As Casey stepped out of the taxi cab, she paused for a moment to stare at her parents' two story house, then leaned back into the cab and paid the driver. After getting her suitcases from the trunk she breathed a deep sigh and started up the sidewalk to the front door. It had been almost a year since she'd been home, and more than three years since she'd moved out. This wasn't how she'd envisioned making her return either, suitcases in hand, her impending marriage to her boyfriend unceremoniously called off.
Unfortunately, after Chris had broken up with her less than a week ago, she wasn't really left with a lot of options. The house they'd been staying in belonged to his parents so she couldn't exactly stay there and make him move out. Just thinking about him caused tears to well up in her eyes. She did her best to shake it off before she reached the front door.
After setting the bags down on the porch, she dug a key from her pocket and opened the door. Her parents had called to say they wouldn't be home for a couple of hours, though her sister was probably home. Dragging her heavy suitcases inside, Casey abandoned them just inside the door and went to look for her sister. What she really needed more than anything at that moment was a good hug.
