Sleeper Agent (closed)

She was too busy eating to noticed that Paul didn't stick around. Alison had finished about half her burger when she looked up and heard the shower. With a shrug, she returned to her food and that's when she saw his phone laying on the counter.

Curiosity got the best of her as she grabbed the phone and turned it on. She had seen him more than once unlock the phone and didn't think much of it at the time... she drew in the pattern and the phone unlocked. There wasn't much on there, except the standard apps...then she saw the one app that said 'Gallery'.

Without thinking, she opened it up...it was then, she saw the pics of his wife. So, that was her... Alison was staring at one picture in particular. It showed Nicole at some coffee shop, drinking coffee by herself....looked like she was waiting and the next picture showed her smiling at the camera, pointing at the person behind the camera.... which Alison could only assume was Paul...

Looking at Nicole, Alison thought she was very pretty. Yeah, she could picture Paul with someone like Nicole.

After stepping out of the shower, and toweling off, he put on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.

When he walked out of the room, he saw Allison going through his phone.

"What the fuck are you doing? How dare you go into my phone. Here I am trying to help you. I should have just killed you when I had the opportunity and moved on from you."

He walked over and grabbed the phone. He stared at her silently for a moment, and then walked over and grabbed his food.

"Wow, a bit over dramatic, aren't we?"

He didn't answer her, so Alison went back to eating and shrugged, "I didn't ask for your help, by the way, you wanted to tag along."

With a sigh, she finished up threw the trash away before walking toward her room...maybe they just needed rest...so she didn't say anything as she disappeared to her room.

Why did he give a fuck about her? What was it that kept her around? he had no idea.

He watched her go to her room. He didn't reply to her. He didn't say anything to her as she left the room.

Once she was in her room, he started to figure out where this was going. He needed to find out who she really was, and who was behind the hit on him.

He sat at the table racking his brain as he picked at his food. He couldn't figure it out. Why had anyone sent a team to hit him? He hadn't been in the field since the mission in which his wife was killed.

Maybe that is what it is tied to? Maybe it all goes back to that mission.

Alison woke from a restless sleep to the sounds of thunder and rain. Kicking the covers from her body, she tried a different position but that didn't help either. With a curse, she sat up and got up out of bed before pulling on a tshirt she had been wearing earlier and headed toward the kitchen for a drink of water.

A flash of lightning lit up the living room and it soon faded before it was followed by a loud clap of thunder, literally rattling the safe house. Had she been paying a lot more attention, Alison would have seen the man standing against the wall by the small island separating the kitchen from the living room...she would have seen Paul's body in the hall, slumped in a mess of two other bodies...no doubt taken out by him before he was over powered.

She should have noticed a lot but her head was pounding all she want was--

The hissing sound was the last thing Alison heard before feeling a stick of a dart...?! She didn't anything as she suddenly fell to her knees as she tried to reach to her back to get the dart. Looking up, the butt of a gun slammed into the right side of her head before seeing other masked men envade the safe house...

He heard them, but underestimated the strength of the team that had been sent. He surprised the first guy with a vicious punch to the throat. He went down in a heap.

When Paul turned around, there was another guy in his face. The punch to the stomach doubled the guy over. The knee to his face ended the guys night. Paul looked around. He was sure there were more. What he didn't know was how many.

Paul saw the third guy, but not the others. As he moved toward the third guy, he got hit from the side, then from the back. Then, he felt something stuck in his neck. That was the last thing he remembered before falling to the floor.

Alison woke slowly. But not enough to alert anyone else around her...and she could sense there was someone else in the room with her. She was strapped to a bed...like she had been before...? No! Not again! Not this!!

"We know you're awake." Came a gravely voice...like an old man. Opening her eyes, Alison blinked a few times to get used to the light as she saw two older men in suits at the foot of her bed and then another man near the door of the room... Jason! Alison fought to get up and lunge for him but quickly remembered she was strapped to the bed. It was then they brought in Paul...his hands were cuffed behind his back and a gun was at his head. Nothing was said as one of the first men in the suit walked up beside her and patted her hand, "We wish we could say you've succeeded Alison but it is us who've failed. We realized you weren't broken properly and for that, we must terminate you."

They one turned to Paul, "Paul, you remember your wife Nicole." It was then they explained how they brainwashed her and did a full reconstructive surgery on her face..which was really necessary since she was pretty mangled in the explosion that was supposed to kill her but didn't.

Paul stood there in the doorway... cuffed... with a gun to his head. He looked around at the situation..... pretty desperate.

He listened as the man explained about Nicole.. about what they had done.... about what they were planning on doing.

Paul was really good at his job, but, this predicament was one he didn't have a clue of how to get out of. Cuffed with a gun to his head was not a good situation and not one that he saw a way out of.

He was angry as hell about what they had done to Nicole and wht they tried to use her to do, but he didn't show it. He tried to concentrate his energy on finding a way out of this.

That was some no named orderly shoved Nicole's head to the side and took out a scalpel. Before she could react, she felt the cut behind her ear and she balled up her fists as she tried to tolerate the pain.

Amongst the commotion, she heard one of the men order Jason to take Paul back out, they would finish him later instead. They had wanted to remove the main tracking device from Nicole before they killed her.

Two men led him out of the room. His brain worked to figure a way out.

The man who had the gun to his head, momentarily lowered the gun to his side. Paul saw an opportunity. It was a slim chance, but desperate times called for desperate measures.

Paul backed up toward the man with the gun at his side, and, with his hands cuffed behind him, grasped the man's hand over the gun and pulled the trigger; delivering a round to the man's leg. The man released his grip on the gun and paul shot him in the chest, and immediately turned and fired at the other man... hitting him center of mass.

He knew he had very little time before others came into the room. Paul sat on the floor next to the first man he shot and checked the guys pockets for keys. When he found them, he was happy that there was a handcuff key on it.

Paul moved himself into a dark corner and began to work the key into the cuffs. It was something he had done in training, but had never had to do to save his life. Fortunately, he was able to do it quickly. He picked up the gun, and thought about his next move.

“If you only knew how much time and effort...and especially money was put into your time and training Nicole, then you would understand why we did what we did. You were merely a test subject and granted, a failure, we have enough data from your implant to make sure not to fail again.”

She could feel the blood dripping from the incision as she thought about all that had happened. It seemed once the device was removed, a lot had come back to her. The next thing she felt was a hot laser against her skin and the smell of burning flesh… she couldn’t help but scream out as the pain got to her. Yet, during the entire time, she was trying to free herself by struggling out of the harness keeping her strapped to the bed….

“Of course we don’t want you bleeding out before we actually kill you. We’ll still need a few things from you my dear…besides, Jason here wanted to have some personal time with you…”

He was surprised that there was no response to the gunshots. He waited another minute, and still nothing. Was it possible that the room they were holding Nicole in was soundproof?

He moved back toward the room. Stopping to retrieve the weapon from the other guy, Paul then looked to see how many guards there were outside the room. Finding only one, Paul smiled. The guard wasn't smiling after Paul broke his neck.

The two men left through the other door and Nicole was left with Jason. Even the orderly left...

He didn't say a word as he unstrapped Nicole from the bed, figuring she was too weak to move.

That was where he was wrong. As soon as the last strap was gone, Nicole attacked but that's where she under estimated herself as she was quickly thrown to the ground.

As the two men exited, they saw Paul. He made sure that he was the last thing they saw in life.

He moved closer to the door. He wasn't sure what to expect on the other side. Was there anyone else in there? If so, how many?

He proceeded with caution not wanting to do anything that could result in harm to Nicole.

Everything was too overwhelming for her at the moment. She hadn't realized that she had been dragged back up onto the bed and that a needle was being readied by Jason as he spoke, "I told them you were a liability but did they listen? No!"

He placed the capped end of the needle in his mouth before yanking it off with his teeth. "I had several opportunities to get rid of you Nicole but they wanted to find your beloved husband first because they wanted him dead but it was who had come for the mission so we had to work with what we had..."

Paul went through the door and saw a man kneeling over Nicole with a needle.

The shot blew the top of the man's head off... spraying brain matter all over the bed, and Nicole.

Paul quickly moved to her... pushing the main off of her... using the bed sheet to clean the blood from her. He lifted her up and held her for a second.

"Can you walk? We need to get out of here quickly."

Yeah, she could walk...maybe...

"Only one way to find out." She said as she leaned on him as he led them to the door. "You should go without me." she pushed away from him, "You'll go faster."

There was commotion heard from down the hall and she slumped further against the wall, "Fuck, who am I kidding? I'll only slow you down."

He picked her up and slung her over his shoulder. He moved toward the back door to the room.

"I am not leaving you behind again, Nicole."

He opened the back door and went out. Instinctively, he fired two shots down the hallway and took out the men standing there. They were oblivious to what was going on. Now they were dead.

He searched for the way out. Moving slowly... cautiously, he made as little noise as possible.

She couldn't let it go like this... not again. Squirming out of his hold, she was able to stand on her own, "OK... I can make it...I have to..." She could feel the wound behind her ear had opened up and the bleeding started again. It wasn't much but it was there.

"Over there..." Nicole pointed toward a set of elevators near the end of the hallway. All they had to do was make it toward them, "I remember that they lead out." She gasped as she held her wound, putting pressure on it to keep it from bleeding, hoping it would at least clot soon.

He pushed her ahead of him. Following her to the elevators, he ripped the sleeve of his shirt and gave the material to her.

"Hold this on the wound. It will help stop the bleeding."

Gun shots suddenly rang out after Nicole took the offered piece of material from Paul. The elevator opened and they both literally jumped in and she slammed on the button to get the doors closed.

Once inside, Nicole spoke despite all the pain she was in, "Once we get to the next stop, I remember there was a loading dock down the hall on the left..you need to go that way Paul. That's where they park the SUVs...I'll hold them off as long as I can..." She wondered secretly how long that would be. Well, that and how many shots he had left in the gun he was holding...

"No, we will get there together. You are not trying anything crazy."

When the doors open, he grabbed her by the arm and practically dragged her down the hall and out to the loading dock.

He went to the closest SUV and pushed Nicole in, then he climbed in and started it up. Fortunately, they had left the keys in them so they could get moving fast.

He threw it into drive and off they went. He had no idea where he was or where he was going. He just wanted to get them away from here.

All the exertion got to Nicole...what the hell was wrong with her? Why was she weak?!

Oh yeah, the blood loss...shit! Oh and her pounding head..the flood of memories.... it made her feel weak! She hated feeling this way.

She reclined the seat back a bit, not wanting to look at Paul because of what she had done to him... She kept the pressure on her wound and without knowing it, she had passed out from exhaustion.

After putting a little distance between themselves and the building, Paul slowed down a little and drove normally. He was alert to his surroundings and kept making sure no one was following them.

It took a while until he recognized where they were. He decided that there was one place they could hide for a while to get their minds straight. Paul had never sold his mother's house after she passed. It wouldn't be traceable to him, because his mother had a different last name and Paul had been given up for adoption as a child. They had reconnected later in life, and when she had been murdered, Paul did not feel right selling the house and making money off a woman he really did not know that well.

He looked over at Nicole and saw that she was out. He noticed a cell phone sitting in the console. They would be able to track them using the cell phone's GPS. Paul pulled into a fast food restaurant, and found a car with an open window. He got out of the SUV and tossed the cell phone onto the floor of the back seat. Then, Paul got back in the car and drove to his mother's house.

Waking with a start, Nicole surprised herself by not screaming...instead she woke gasping for air, as if someone was choking her...

But what she dreamt about was a complete blur, yet it still left her breathing hard as she tried to make sense of everything. The last thing she remembered was ending back up in a place she thought she had forgotten about.

The room she was in was dimly lit and she noticed that small oil lamp burning...she was even covered up with a rough blanket. Sitting up, she felt arms around her, pulling her back. Surprisingly, she didn't pull away as she heard him speaking her name softly.

Nicole only could shake her head, "No...this isn't real," she closed her eyes, "you're not real...please..." the pair of arms wouldn't let her go, "this is only another simulation.." she whispered over and over until she fell back asleep, still being held.
