Smallville: Redux OOC

point for NY, smallville showed Metro with an ocean and a DOCKS...

My vote

My issue was that SMALLVILLE is in KANSAS and excuse me if I am wrong but isnt that state in the middle of the USA? I mean I am australian so my USA knowledge is lacking but can we all agree that Kansas is in the middle? and there for METROPOLIS would be near it as most stories have it close.

I think Gotham is Chicago, with is on lake superior and has ships that dock at it. but yes, metro is the issue. until smallville the tv show came around, i always thought new york city was the model for Metro - skyscrapers and what not.

I love these kinds of debates :)

Actually Chicago is in Lake Michigan. And u see some of it in Batman begins and Dark knight. You also see the Chicago river since that's what they crossed to get to the narrows.

Ok as loathed as I am to trash my home town. Chicago is Gotham.

Metropolis will be in New York.

Then someone PLEASE explain to me WHY when I was in NYC people call it GOTHAM?!?!?!

Damn. My thought had always been that Metropolis was Chicago (The windy city for the dude that flies, and that it's closer to Kansas.), and that grim and gritty Gotham was New York (Face it guys the only hero that can tame Harlem and the Bronx is the Bat right?). As to the docks and ports, I have to bow to absorbed knowledge but, Chicago has an indirect route to the ocean, through the great lakes and the Eerie canal.

YES Someone agrees with me! I agree the BAT OWNS NYC and the people there believe its GOTHAM!!!

Chicago can be Metropolis.

*Grins at Varsh* Spank me if you think I am that bad girl :)

I can also, through absorbed knowledged, confirm that from many points in Kansas Chicago is less than a days transit. New York, not so much so.

Just stating the facts. Sorry if it makes you home sick Vic:).

On yet another front, the windy city also sports a more friendly face to the rest of the world where New York is known for it's dark side. And before anyone mentions gangsters and such in Chicago, I can counter that with Intergang and the fact that Supe's has a long history of facing machine gun toting thugs:devil:.

How fast u can get there doesn't matter much when u can fly or have superspeed. Which is why Superman always had a weekend dinner with his mom and pop.

Anyhow I have decided to go with the movie example. Which puts Metropolis and all it Burroughs in NY.

Another reason it should be there. In Chicago we call it Suburbs not buroghs lol.

And. Gotham will be Chicago.. In the daylight hours its as beautiful as any city in the world. But when sun goes down Gotham's real side comes out. And trust me Chicago is currupt enough that we need a Jim Gordon.

But I reserve the right to change my mind.

Especially If Chris Nolan and his Blbrother decide to film the new Superman movie in Chicago. Then ill put both cities there LMao.

God I need another hour of this torture at work tonight. Serves me right for finishing up two hours ago with everything.

::Grabs jills ass and holds her still, and then proceeds to lick....::

overall it's not all that important. Mostly just a mental masterbation exercise really.

Pardon me for interrupting.

I'm waffling about joining the thread at Vic's invite, so I thought I'd throw my two cents in.

Pardon the interrupt.

But why is it so important that Metropolis be in the same place as it is in the comics, if the comics can't make their mind up anyway?

Forgive me.

Just have it be in the same place as the show, I'd think.

Originally, I thought that Smallville was a suburb of Metropolis, in the comics, way way back in the day; it wasn't until John Byrne's "Man of Steel" miniseries in the 80's that specified that Smallville was in Kansas. "Smallville" the show's just moved Metropolis back to its relative distance from Smallville while keeping Smallville in its post-"MoS" location.

It doesn't make sense to me to move the city. How would non-"super" characters reach it from Smallville on a regular basis?

Yeah, the "canon" Metropolis, it's assumed to be on The East Coast. I always saw it as being part of a triune mega-city, New York and Metropolis and Gotham, two sister cities and the ugly stepsister.

But "Smallville's" an alternate universe. What's a little geography retcon between friends?
