I don't really know which of my stories are 'stroke' until I am told they are!

Still, I think most readers and authors would agree that there is an (at least vague) idea of what constutes a 'stroke' story. If you're reading or writing it, and it sounds at least like something you would expect to see in the pages of Penthouse Forum, it's a stroke story.

I mean, if she's sucking his dick, or they're fucking in an elevator after just a brief introduction, or one lesbian is talking about strap-on dildos while the other is getting undressed . . .

It's not that difficult of a distinction, I think.

I would say a stroke story is no more than 2-3 pages and concentrates on the sex, not the characters. If there's bumping and grinding going on before you get halfway down the page, it's a stroke piece.

I've been trying for years to write longer and longer stories, full of endless sex scenes and not much else besides... Hell, I'm currently in the middle of posting a story in six chapters - that I think still qualifies as pure stroke.

Well, you may have a point. Pretty Baby was loaded with sex, except for the last two chapters. Guess you could consider the work one long stroke pice, in a way. I've had at least one comment posted to that effect.

I would agree with that formula, but I don't know what you mean by the "2-3 pages". If you mean two to three Lit. pages, that would be seven to ten thousand words, which is longer than you need. Not too long, but longer than you need. If you mean two or three pages on your HD, that would be too short. Proper stroke needs detail, and you can't get enough detail in such a short story.

My longest stroke story is 22,000 words, in six chapters and spread over a three day weekend. It isn't pure stroke because there is a story line and some side characters. That might be a bit of overkill but I still like the story and so does the woman I wrote it for.

By 'pages,' I was referring to Lit pages. A good stroke goes a little further than the initial set-up, I think

I always work hard on build up and characterisation because it makes the sex better and yes, the sex is usually graphic and hot, but you need to do a bit of reading to get there... I'm also starting to write more ambiguous stuff that's sexy and could get someone off, but is less graphic than some of my others...

Isn't it enough that all these stories are posted on an erotica site? There is a non-erotic cat. for no sexual content, the rest is just a matter of trial and error. What I'd far rather have is a reader's award for good spelling and grammar with no clashing words that put you off your stroke, but I doubt that can be arranged!
