So why are you here?

On this fine laborious day after fucking with the dogmatic pups, I asked my self: "Mere nameless, numbered one, what possible reasons can you have for being here?"

Well there are
three or four that actually like my stuff.
Three or four that steal from me.
Three or four actively hate me, out of vast ocean of indifference.
And I like six or seven's work although two of my fav's seem to have disappeared. Wickedwhatshername and annasomethingorother. (And someday anna you will realize what I wrote for you is a total destruction of the oral tradtion and Iamb's and it will dawn on you that I was some kind of genius. May not be poetry, maybe soemthing else)

So I guess that gives me somewhere between 15 and 19 good reasons.

So why are you here?
Impress me,

Go ahead
Make my day.

I came here to learn.

and to get some attention ;) ( hey, I was the first of 4 kids, my brother came along 18 days before my first b'day. I never got any attention, never. That's what's wrong with me now. I'm a big lonely baby, lol)

but mostly, to learn. I have learned a lot about myself, but even more about human nature.

Which here?
this here?
Right now, this precise here?
Yet I'm not here, really.
that's an impossibility.
Trick question.

Wrapping up some attention and shipping it your way. :)

well, I'm not, usually....

If by "here", you mean contributing to this forum. If you mean "at Lit.", I occasionally contribute a story, or the recent poem to celebrate my father's birthday.

I do miss the "regulars' " poems, to name but a few "Rainman", Anna S., Wicked, Tristesse, 12/01, Tath, Doormouse, etc. The newer crop is sincere but the raw material often mediocre. Perhaps one can read too much poetry. I often find the attempted enjambment awkward, the fancy vocabulary word self-conscious, and the overall product incoherent.

Which perhaps is why Public Comments have all but disappeared on the poetry forum. People are either afraid to say anything for fear of retaliation, or don't feel moved to say something of value.

genius
aaaaaaaaaahahahaha

we are all geniuses in one way or another
the definition being not just a measure of IQ: intelligence,
but the ability to influence and manipulate people
( lot of them here)
IE:
"Rasputin was a mad genius"

of course we have to decide what is mad etc etc
It's all a judgment call based of development of consciousness and how one sees the world
Not seeing the genius of Andy Warhol means what?
You don't see it or the masses are mislead?

The point of poetry is to raise the consciousness of the reader
To make them see and understand a thing they may not have before
This is my opinion
Now some of us may make them see grandiose visions of God
Or the subtle workings of nature and man
or the dark underbelly of life as we know it
or the pain and unbearable suffering of seeing things in a way that no one seems to understand

The poet, in my opinion, is like an oracle
He gives a message in his own voice , in his own way, and it is up to those who seek him to decipher and understand it

and who is to say whether that is right or wrong
who is to say whether is was better written in rhyme or free verse
did it need enjambment or alliteration of fucking meter?

the truth, my dear poets
has a million faces and a million voices and if you are true to your vision
no one can tell you that you are wrong

and those that are meant to find you will and the rest are of no consequence.

I am tired of all the posturing
" publish, edit, rhythm, meter, form, free verse"
It means nothing in the end
If you can't say what you mean.

The more you learn, the more ways you will have at your disposal to state your vision.

period.
None is right
None is wrong

the mediocre poets
those bogged down in cliché or rhyme or word choice
beginners
we were all beginners
there are a few poets whom I'd be more than interested to see there Jr high or elementary school doodling.
I suspect they weren't geniuses nor writing anything other than what we all know
basic truths
She loves me
she hates me
it hurts
death
love
sex
oh sex feels good it is as if..

find the fuckin truth in everyones words
and realize that punctuation and enjambment and word choice have nothing to do with the basic honesty
of what is felt

these things are learned as one goes on
if one is ENCOURAGED not preached to
not given ultimatums
no one here has the perfect formula

NO ONE

and so each finds his or hers own way
own voice
own expression

this is all I have to say
i have no regrets in my writing

I'm a lumberjack and its OK
I sleeps all night and i works all day

Hava nagila
Hare rama
Krishna was a friend of mine
he would blow you any time
for a nickle or a dime
50 cents for over time

a blessing on your head

well Sack, nice to see you. You mention PC's?

I haven't seen one from you in like, forever. and some of the people you mention, have moved up in the world, got published outside Lit, though some of them, still post their work on the inner threads here,

You should visit sometime, you don't have to have a new poem up to pop in and say hello, or hell, you don't need a reason! and if you turn off the voting on your work, then you don't have to worry about immature people one bombing you! There is a cure for almost everything now!!

and some of us, we just don't have the same name you knew us by before, and some of us are expecting babies and are busy, and some of us got our work ripped off and don't feel safe posting it at Lit anymore.

where have ya been, ol Buddy?

;)

good to see you

julie

This is not a place. I'm no more "here" than I'm in the envelope if I write a letter.

Trippy, huh?

So why are you here?
  • To write poetry.
  • To make jokes.
  • To pass the time.
  • To flirt, however clumsily, with my opposing sex.
  • To share comments with people who live in exotic foreign places like London, Rotterdam, Porto, Auckland, Stockholm, or New Joisey (among some of them).
  • To have SJ wipe me off the board for my incompetent references to mathematics.
  • To chit chat, as groups do, about all manner of things.
  • To read some pretty darn good poems.
  • To celebrate the success of friends' poems, publications, life events, lottery winnings.
  • To perhaps, if I can be ingratiating enough, share in that last.
  • To spin discs (or YouTube vids) with fellow music lovers.
  • To talk. Er, Text.
  • To be made to think, at least sometimes.
  • To argue about things that I care about. Or don't.
  • To get angry with people, occasionally.
  • To learn. Which I do, all the time.
  • To (quoting Will) be.

If I May
You are one of the select people here whom I read and learn from
Your writing, your obscure references, your links to music, art, literature
You do it all with a feeling of sharing, of community.
I never feel as though I'm being lectured to
or taught
or reminded of
anything

it is a pleasure to learn from you
it is a natural thing , like sitting and talking over a meal or a beer on a Sunday afternoon

You are someone whose knowledge leaves me in awe yet I never feel as though you are talking down to me
for this i thank you
for this
I tell you I listen more intently
for this you have my admiration and my respect
namaste' sir
