Kat smiles nodding, "I hope it's a good new." She murmured as she took a sip of her coffee before picking up her fork. She looked up again when Thor reminded her to slow down, enjoy the taste, she nodded again. She did try to slow down, but it was hard, it looked like it was a physical challenge to slow herself down. It helped when she ate with a fork, because it was so damn frustrating to eat with the stupid utensils.

And she found her hand physically shaking with the effort of using the fork. But she fought through it, this was something she was going to have to do, every day of her life. She glanced up, pleased that Thor was enjoying the food, she wasn't that great of a cook, but she tried, and it was easier with some meals rather than other some more complicated ones. She finished eating and as relieved to put that damn fork down. She finished her coffee and looked over at Thor, "What's the plan for today?" SHe asked curiously, wondering what he wanted to do.

Thor watched her struggle through eating with the fork, but at least she did slow down, which was a good step in the right direction. He seemed to ponder her question.

"Exercise, sleep, eat, reading and exercise topped off with shower and sleep."

He gave her a small smile, "You know how we do it Lt, we push you hard and once you are good at following orders, you get placed in charge. So a walk around the yard is a good start."

She chuckles and nods, "Sounds like a plan to me. " she stood and cleaned up their dishes once they were finished. "Thanks for coming back here with me." She said quietly, "I don't know how I would have managed on my own." She knew Hunter and Abigail would've stayed with her but still, as much as she loved them, she felt safer with Thor. She knew she was heavily attached because he carried her out of that dirt cell. He had rescued her with she'd given up on rescue.

She went and slid on a pair of tennis shoes, ready for that walk out in the fresh air and sunshine.

He smiled and motioned at her cleaning up, "Seems like you might just have managed."

He got up and while she went to get dressed, he washed the dishes and opened the front door, taking in the fresh air and boisterous sniffing of his ankles by Zero. He grinned and gave the dog a good scratch and straightened when Kat showed up. He grinned at her and motioned the outside.

"M'lady, your exercise yard awaits."

She walks outside with him, sighing softly as she fells the warmth of the sunlight. Zero bounces around them eagerly stopping a tennis ball at the humans feet. Kat lifted the ball, throwing it. She repeated the action many times as they walked, until she felt her arms getting sore from throwing. "Alright pal, enough." She said softly, the dog was still eager to play. After her fifth trip around the yard she felt her legs quivering. "I think I'm finished for now." She said, glancing over at Thor.

He walked along, more as back up measure than anything else. He already had plans about her rehab with the first toss of the ball. When she stated that she seemed to be done, he nodded, "For now at least. We have to get some distance and reps into those throws. You didn't give Zero a decent workout..."

He grinned.

"Yet."

He followed her back into the house, ready to steady her should her legs fail her. They made it to her room and he made her sit, unlacing and taking off her shoes.

"And now you lie back and rest. When you feel up to it, we can go sit in the living room with one of those cups of syrup you like so much and entertain ourselves before lunch."

He sat back on his haunches and look up at her, chuckling. "Sounds like a retirement home. But don't sweat it Lt, we will only take things easy for now."

She smiled at his words, grateful to have him close as her legs wobbled. She made it up to her room with his help and watched him unlace and take off her tennis shoes before she curled up on the bed, her body was doing so much healing and her mind was working so hard she was already ready for a nap.

Kat hated how weak she was now. There was a time when she could go and keeping going for close to 48 hours while out on an assignment. But now, eat breakfast, take a short walk around the yard and she was exhausted and as weak as a puppy.

She glances at Thor when he mentioned taking it easy. "Before all this I didn't really know how to take it easy. Even on leave I never stopped. Always moving always doing something. Been that way since I was a kid." She mused as she yawned.

He got up and made sure that she was comfortable, "Well don't you worry. You will be there again, it may take some time, but the rewards will be sweeter than Peach gobbler."

He took a seat in the chair and stretched his legs, "Now you go sleep. I will be in my room when you wake up. God didn't bless me with this body, it needs maintenance. So I will be seeing to that OK?"

She snickered and nodded "You have fun with that." She drifted off to sleep. Once again it was stressful and had her fidgeting. She whimpered and thrashed. Eventually she woke with a scream. Panting and gasping for breath. She dragged her hands through her hair. "Fuck." She muttered, so sick of the terrors and memories. She swung her legs over the side of the bed and stood up. She was a little shaky and didn't feel all that well rested but she didn't like the idea of going back to bed. Kat figured maybe she could exhaust herself enough to let her sleep. Her only other option was drinking herself to sleep and somehow she doubted that Thor would agree to that.

When Kat got out of bed, Thor appeared in the doorway. He had heard her waking up yelp and he stood there looking at her. His short hair beading with sweat, his military vest showing patches of perspiration, his breathing only slightly rushed and quickly returning to normal as he was basically in rest.

"Bad ones huh?"

He didn't wait for her answer, just motioned for her to come with him, "Why don't you come keep me company Lt? It won't be too long."

She just nodded when he asked if the dreams had been bad. She easily fell into step with him and returned to where he'd been working out. She found a place to sit and curled up there. She still looked tired but she was wide awake, too fearful to return to sleep just yet. She was perfectly content to sit here and watch Thor work out. She tucked her legs up under herself and found herself slowly relaxing as she recovered from the night terrors.

He went through the training program two more times, by which time even his considerable stamina were drained, leaving him sitting on the ground, wiping the sweat off of his face and exposed arms and shoulders and sipping water from a bottle. He gave Kat a slight smile, "Right about now, that tea flavored syrup you drink sounds mighty tempting."

He swallowed more water and after a few more breaths, he got to his feet, draping the towel over his shoulders and holding a hand to her.

"Let's go get some proper food inside you and go walk some more. It will be good if we both need a shower before dinner."

Kat chuckled and set her hand in his. There was something inside her that just settled when she was near him. She walked with him to the kitchen. She reluctantly released his hand to open the fridge and see what there was. Then she opened the freezer and checked. Having been told that her hands were messed up, her brother had stocked the freezer with premise frozen meals that required minimal preparation. "Well we could make chili. Then we'd have left overs for dinner." She mused. They had all the beans and meat required for that.

"Well that sounds about right. Tomorrow I will make you a steak and potato wedges you will not believe."

He peeked over her shoulder at the contents of the freezer, "Perhaps get some out now if there is, otherwise we will have to get some prime beef."

He playfully prodded her arm, "Red meat and all that."

He chuckled and moved away to get the pot and pan ready for the preparation of the meal. "So Lt I have been curious. What brought you to the Army?"

She nodded with a grin at the idea of steak and potato wedges. She shook her head "looks like we may have to run into town for steaks." Then she began pulling out the ingredients they needed for chili. She flicked a look over at him when he asked what brought her to the Army. "Mostly? I had no where else to go aside from jail." She shrugged. "I was a foster kid. Parents left me at a firehouse in Montana when I was five. Cops couldn't find them so I was pushed into the system." She went to the cabinet for the cans of beans.

"Had some bad homes, then I got angry at the world, no body wanted to to keep me for long. I was fifteen and mean as an alley cat when I got tossed into a group home. Hunter was there. He took a liking to me. Lord knows why. But he started keeping me in line. I still fought, I still drank. Even stole a car once after a bit of drinking when I was sixteen. Luckily I didn't wreck the car. But damn if Hunter didn't give me a talking to like I'd never had before. Said He was my brother now and i was his responsibility. He'd be damned if I'd get behind the wheel drunk and get myself killed." She laughed.

"Anyway. He turned eighteen a year before me but he stayed around, stayed involved. When I turned eighteen we got our names legally changed. Decided on something completely new, Doyle. He said he was going to join the Navy. I thought a long time on it and realized I was bound to get myself in a bad place if I stayed alone. So I joined the Army. Didn't want the Navy like Hunter." She said.

"Well I dunno Lt, I think you might have made cute frogman."

He reached up and pushed his face from the sides to the centre

"Especially in those nice black one-piece bathing suits which squishes your face like this."

He lowered his hands with a chuckle and moved over to help her.

"It is a good thing that he did look after you. Even if the circumstances of us two meeting are the type that no person would want to meet another, I am glad for it. Now if you were incarcerated, we would not have been standing here and Zero would never have gotten to know you."

She laughed "Yeah maybe but I don't like water much. Certainly not enough to make a career in it." She chuckle as she helped make lunch. "Even with how things turned out I'm glad I joined the army." She said as she leaned against the counter. Yeah even with how life turned out she can't say she regretted joining the army. She'd spend a long time there and made friends and kept on the right path. She knew she would've ended up in jail otherwise. So even with her captivity and such she can't say she'd do anything differently.

It was quite a new experience for him to watch and help her make food. Normally they would get fed in the canteen or cook food on the chemical stove in the field. Making food along with somebody was not something he had ever done. He enjoyed it.

"Did you have any dreams when you were young? Family? Career? A house on the beach? Driving a Ferrari?"

She shrugs, "I don't know. You know most foster homes are great, but a lot of mine weren't. So for a long time my dream was just getting out of the system. Everybody expected Hunter and I to get together or thought we were lying about not sleeping together, but we weren't. We just weren't interested in each other that way, never had been." She said as she moved around the kitchen, enjoying the domestic act of cooking together. "I'd thought a bit on getting married, finding a partner in life. Never really did long term relationships real well so I figured that would be a bust. Figured I'd make a career out of the Army. But now I think I'll probably reevaluate my goals in life. I have always wanted to ride a horse on the beach." She chuckled. That had been her dream since she was like 12 years old.

"Well at least one long term relationship worked for you thus far. The one you have with the Army."

He grinned at her, then went on.

"You do know that once you are fit for duty, you are going back right? OK sure, you will not be able to needlepoint for us anymore, which is a shame, but you will be welcomed back with open arms."

He placed the lid on the bubbling pot and turned to face her. "The horse on the other hand might take some time though."

She glanced at him and shrugged, "I don't think I'll ever be fit for duty again." She said softly, with a shrug. "Even if I get back physically. I don't know if my mind will ever be ready again." She said as she fiddled with things. "But I don't know if I could ever hold a gun right, that I'll be able to use my hands fast enough to keep myself or anyone else safe." Kat chewed her lower lip.

"But I'll need to find something else to do, to keep myself occupied. Even before all this, I'd debated about going private security, if I got bored of the Army. Maybe that's in my future." Kat shrugged as she looked over at Thor. "Or maybe I'll train dogs for the military." She mused. KAt had no clue what she was going to do, but she had time to decide, first she needed to get back into shape mentally and physically.

He moved closer to her and took her hands gently into his own. "You don't need to hold a gun or go hand-to-hand to do you work. All you have to do, is show the same spirit which kept you sane and trust in me."

He gave her a slight smile, "If I do manage to fail you and you decide to not train dogs, then I will have to go with you. With all this lazing around, you might forget to keep in shape."

She smiled up at him, "You won't fail me. That I have no doubt in." SHe said confidently, she leaned gently against him. "I kinda like the idea of training dogs. Having my own facility, training military working dogs, and maybe even the general public teach how to handle their dogs." She mused, liking the idea more and more as she thought about it. Dogs soothed her, and she had some skills, it wouldn't be hard to get more skills that she needed to make it a career. And her time in the military meant she'd have the opening to work with Military Working Dogs. She'd still have a close tie to the Army, but wouldn't be directly in it.

As she leaned in against him, he released one of her hands and wrapped that arm around her.

"See? All you need is a plan. And if Zero is any indication, you will come highly recommended in both the military and private sectors. You have gifts and it will be foolish to not use them"

He chuckled softly, "Might even be tempted into bringing my sister's dog to you. She drives the whole family crazy. Perhaps a bit of work is all she needs."

She chuckles as she lays her head on his chest. "Well, I didn't get Zero to where he is on my own. But I think that guy would probably be willing to help me figure out the stuff I need to figure out." She mused. It did feel good to have a rough plan, even if she didn't know how she would make that plan a reality yet. One step at a time. She snickered at the mention of his sister's dog. "Probably. It's rarely the dog's fault." She mused with a chuckle.
