Something wicked this way comes!!!

...Remember, it's all about writing, don't even THINK about editing before Decmber 1st.

That's probably why I didn't complete in 2004.

In 2003 I wrote, edited and submitted all 50,000 words to Lit by the 20th.

In 2004 too many things were happening in November.

This year? I don't know. Now I have done it once the incentive isn't so great.

However - advice to those trying it for the first time - You do NOT have to produce a fully plotted and planned single story. Any mess of 50,000 words will do, even the start of half a dozen stories that are rattling around in your head. All that is necessary is to write 50,000 words about anything in November. What you do with the 50,000 words afterwards is up to you.

If you have a target of 2,000 words a day you can afford one or two days off. If you have a lesser target - any distraction and you'll run out of time. If you have reached 14,000 by the end of the first week you'll probably succeed.

It's 50,000 about anything? Those 6 episodes of my fanfic are looking more and more tempting...

It could be 50,000 random words but most of us would think that was cheating (and actually difficult to keep up for the whole 50,000).

You have to put the end product through their word count system but only you know whether you wrote those 50,000 words in November or months or years ago.

Winning (=completing) NaNoWriMo is only an achievement if you know you have done it. It is very easy to cheat but what's the point? You are challenging yourself, no one else.

50,000 words that are bits and pieces of stories that might become something would be acceptable. Writing 2,000 words a day is hard enough without trying to keep to a plot and storyline, although those help some of us to stay focused. The total could be ten 5,000 word stories, or twenty 2,500 word stories or chapters, or one 10,000 word story and 40,000 words of bits and pieces that can be worked up into stories later.

or sixty six 750 word stories (with a few extra words thrown in a couple of them)... lol...

Well, it is more than possible for me to do 6x9,000 word episodes without much bother at all. But I think that would be against the spirit, or at least the spirit in which I want to compete. A novel it is!

They could be six chapters.

Don't forget the advice above IF the novel gets stuck. Writing anything if you get writer's block on THE novel will still count and might help to make a better novel.

Technically, you COULD do like Johnny, and just write ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY...

Would fit nicely in with Halloween...

Ah, these are fanfiction. And also in script mode as well. So I don't think they count.

It's gonna be a bitch going for quantity, not quality.

The Earl

NaNo isn't about quality, it's about quantity. That's the basic rule. Quality doesn't enter the picture until you start editing.

JOI: Are all of the LitWriDoNaNoWriMo-ers writing erotica? I'm planning on doing 'proper' writing and thus it probably won't be shown to any of the other Litizens (as I prefer to keep my 'proper' stuff very separate).

I'm not planning on mine being "erotica," although there may be one or two erotic scenes in it.

You mean you won't post any excerpts along with the rest of us? :(

You might get short excerpts, but I'm paranoid about being 'found out'. Have been ever since I joined Lit this second time.

I don't know on my theme yet, last year I did a romance (that still needs editing...any volumteers *LMAO*) so i might go for erotic this year, I just need to get a story idea into my head. it'll come, loads of my stories have decided they want to be novels of late :)

What a coincidence, NaNo takes place the same month that I have a big exam in Computer Science... :D
Used to teach that. If you have anything that needs a shortcut, do feel free (though I offer no guarantees...)

Still re-writing last years and trying to edit down from 170k words, not going to attempt it this year, hadn't even remembered it was up coming.

Evening Crim!
I don't know what on Earth this thread is about, hang on till I find out.

Hello you beautiful Gal's,

Back from Ireland and the big arts project. Great success - even if I say so myself. Received invite to arrange something similar in Amsterdam and Kiev. Everything is good, except the personal health which unfortunately has turned out to be seriously bad.

Will be around egging on Nanoers.

National Novel Writing Month

Which takes place in November and which some Ahers have done for the last couple of years. Focuses totally on making yourself write... quanity over quality, etc. Write 50,000 words in a month's time.
